DSWD’s database generates reports, statistics on poor households CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental --- The National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) can generate reports and statistics on poor households.
This was underscored by Ian Z. Putong, Regional Field Coordinator of the NHTS-PR in Northern Mindanao, during the recent regional launching of the NHTS-PR database. The NHTS-PR shows that poor households in region 10 reaches 338,749, sharing 6.44 percent of the identified poor households in the country. The province of Bukidnon got the highest number of poor households with 98,107 while Camiguin has the lowest with 7,470 poor households. Aside from the magnitude of poor households by province, Putong said, the regional database also 26
shows that 277,066 of the poor households or 82 percent are living in the rural areas. Six (6) out of 10 poor households in the region or 60 percent of them do not have electricity in their homes, while majority of them, 110,316 poor households, use shared faucet community water system as their main water source, he further said. The database, further, shows that four (4) out of 10 poor households or40 percent use water-sealed as toilet facility while still two (2) out of 10 poor households or 20 percent has no toilet facility, he added. Putong cited that the regional database
also reveals that majority of poor individuals were not attending health centers and three (3) out of 10 or 30 percent poor individuals were attending schools. Likewise, the database yields that majority of the poor households had experienced an armed conflict as the type of displacement, while around 15.49 percent of the poor households or 52,475 were indigenous people (IPs), and 70 percent of them are found in the province of Bukidnon. These are just few examples of statistics and reports that can be generated from the NHTS-PR, Putong concluded.(Apipa Bagumbaran) Monday, October 10, 2011
