Polarisation through quarter-wave plates with optical base plate

P2250105

Principle Monochromatic light impinges on amica plate, perpenicularly to its optical axis. If the thickness of the plate is adequate (lambda/4 plate), a phase shift of 90째 occurs between the ordinary and the extraordinary beam when the latter leaves the crystal. The polarisation of exiting light is examined for different angles between the optical axis of the lambda/4 plate and the direction of polarisation of incident light.

Fourier optics - 2f arrangement with optical base plate

P2261100

Principle The electric field distribution of light in a specific plane (object plane) is Fourier transformed into the 2 f configuration. Task 1. Investigation of the Fourier transform by a convex lens for different diffraction objects in a 2 f set-up.

For more details refer to page 180.

Magnetostriction with the Michelson interferometer with optical base plate

P2430800

Principle With the aid of two mirrors in a Michelson arrangement, light is brought to interference. Due to the magnetostrictive effect, one of the mirrors is shifted by variation in the magnetic field applied to a sample, and the change in the interference pattern is observed.
