With our ever-increasing technology and fast-paced lifestyles, business owners struggle to keep pace with the marketplace and keep their sanity. How are you going to grow your business this year and retain your valuable clients? Did you know… 

Emails have a 10-12% ‘open rate’ vs. greeting cards have a 98% ‘open rate’

97% of all mail are bills, junk mail, 3% is personal mail

Why customers leave…every month you don’t stay in contact with your clients, you lose 10% of your influence with them

Successful business people like Warren Buffet and Dr. Ivan Misner agree that a personal, heartfelt greeting card is one of the best strategies to use in growing your business

With over 25 years experience in Marketing and Retail, I have a passion for helping business owners create memorable marketing and connecting with clients.

Your personal and professional image is

Of course, round brushes,

every bit as important as your reputation and your business card. We only have one opportunity to make a first impression. What does your hairstyle say about you? Do you have a “relationship” with your hairdresser? Is it time for a change?

flat irons, hot rollers etc. are readily available, but you shouldn’t have to spend that kind of time on a daily basis. Which brings me to this question: Are you trying to force your hair to be something it isn’t? Thick, coarse and curly hair will never lay flat in a perfect Bob. Baby fine, sleek hair will never be able to have extreme volume by natural means. Always remember that any image you see in a magazine, the model has had a team of highly trained professionals attending to her for several hours.

Finding a hairdresser is one of the most important decisions a woman can make. I believe that my job is to create haircut and hair color that works synergistically to enhance a woman's essence. I consider hair type, face shape, body type…personality, career. I consider your budget and your time constraints… how much time are you willing to spend styling your hair in the morning?

How often do you want to see me? Did you know that current hair color techniques could sometimes be created where you have longer time between visits?

A properly constructed haircut should be virtually indestructible. Meaning, it should retain its shape throughout the day and still look good in 4-8 weeks (sometimes longer). You should be able to easily style your own hair, and any good stylist will be happy to teach you tips for styling. I often feel that our hands are our very best tools.

TREVORTNI TIPS TIP #1 — Emphasize the best parts of your shape today, not the shape you had 10, 20 or 30 years ago (wherever in the past your eye takes you). Focus on your best features. Yes, you still have them!

TIP #2 —Look instantly slimmer – change your shoulder bag to a handbag. Shoulder bags are bulky and add inches to your hip area.

TIP #3 — In choosing a lipstick: if the whites of your eyes or teeth turn yellow, it’s the wrong shade.

TIP #4 — If you wear a large silhouette on top (like a large sweater or T-shirt), then you need to wear a tight silhouette line on the bottom (skinny jeans or leggings). If you wear a large bottom (baggy pants, flared pants), then wear a small silhouette line on the top (fitted and hugging top).

Leadership, Education, & Networking Opportunities Welcome to our community of women helping women. Networking: The Power of Connection Being an entrepreneur can be tremendously rewarding, but it can be incredibly stressful too! One way to both reduce stress and increase the reward is by growing a vibrant, supportive personal network. Just how important is networking to the long-term success of your business? As successful business owners (Vitaerobics.com, TheTimeManagement.Expert), and Co-Managing Directors of eWomenNetwork in Phoenix, we can tell you that it is essential! Don’t just take our word for it; a recent study found that as much as 75 percent of all business is created through networking! The term “networking” is used, and misused, a lot. First, and most importantly, networking is NOT about selling. And, it’s not about giving away as many business cards as you can, either. Instead, to be successful, think of networking as an opportunity to develop key relationships and create powerful partnerships. It involves both learning about others and helping others learn about you. The success of your network is not measured by the number of business cards you collect. Instead, it is measured by the number of quality connections you make and the relationships you build. You may be surprised at the connections you can make at just one event. Often, when she speaks to groups, Sandra Yancey, the founder and CEO of eWomenNetwork, tells people that, “Everyone you need to grow a thriving business is in this room, right now. You just don’t know them all yet.” You have probably heard it before, but it bears repeating: People like to do business with those they know, like and trust. People have to know you before they can like you, and like you before they can trust you. That’s what quality networking provides – the perfect forum to learn about others and begin to build trust. Here are three key steps for growing your network: Tip #1: Think of every event that you attend as a networking opportunity. You never know who you will meet and how you might be able to support each other. Engage in meaningful conversations, actively looking for ways to help and connect others. This may be simply introducing them to someone you know, offering advice in your area of expertise, or identifying ways that you both might benefit from collaborating. Some of our best connections have come when we least expect them, so keep your eyes and ears open. For example, I first met Sandra Yancey while attending a training event hosted by another coach. Sandra was there sharing about the eWomenNetwork Foundation (a 501(c)3 charity) and we connected. You just never know who you will meet, or when, so always be open.

Ultimate Woman International February/ March 2015

"Build Quality Relationships and Get Connected" Tip #2: Have a plan. Before each event, think about what you want to achieve, and then approach that event with your personal goals in mind. Have an idea of who you want to meet, know what value you and your business offers to others, and be able to clearly articulate what you need in the next 30 days to grow your business. When attending any type of business event, we always set goals for how many people we are going to meet and who we would like to connect with. Tip #3: Follow-up, follow-up, follow-up. Many people who attend networking events, never reach out after the event to the contacts they’ve made. Remember, it’s not about how many business cards you collect. It’s about beginning the “know-like-trust” process, and that almost always takes more than one brief encounter. Making follow-up phone calls, sending promised information, or just checking in is a great start. Offering additional information that wasn’t specifically mentioned is another great way to help build a new relationship. We often send people articles or ideas that we think might be of interest to them. First, we genuinely want to help them, and second, it reminds them that we are thinking of them and the success of their business. Apply these three tips each time you attend a business or personal event and watch your network grow in both size and quality. Remember, focus on quality first. A small, quality network is much more valuable. How many “friends” do you have on Facebook or LinkedIn, and how many of them do you really know? An effective networking strategy should be focused on quality, not quantity. eWomenNetwork is the premier networking organization for entrepreneurial women (and smart men!). We can support you at all phases of your business – from start-up to growth to leveraging. eWN is a community of success-minded entrepreneurs and business professionals focused on helping our members in three key areas: Acquiring clients, marketing and access and education. Our philosophy is “giving first and sharing always” and “lifting as you climb.” If you can take on more business and would love to learn more about how eWomenNetwork can support you and your business we would love to connect. Relationships Come and Go by TERESA GROOMS-SALHI

Relationships, they come and they go. It's like an ebb and flow of souls interacting on a physical journey. It's supposed to be that way, I guess. It may not always feel ok at first – but eventually it is. Who said they are meant to be in our life forever, anyway? We've all heard someone say that real friends are forever or marriages must be from now til the end of time. I've come to believe that is not necessarily true nor is it false. It just is and that's ok… In relationships we tend to change. We grow, evolve, expand our consciousness, our beliefs, perceptions, ideas, dreams and what we like or don't like and even change our vocabulary. These are all good things to experience even if it doesn't feel that way at the time. To be the same person, exactly the same person, forever would be detrimental to engaging with all that life and love has to offer. The Law of Attraction is about receiving in the outer world a mirror of what we are feeling on the inside. This means everything that shows up in our life is somehow related to what our dominate thoughts and feelings are within us. If there is any doubt how you feel about something – just look around and notice what you are experiencing in your physical life right now. Ultimate Woman International February/ March 2015

THREE FOOLPROOF WAYS TO CHOOSE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND UP YOUR VALUE…… Deciding where to buy a home can be one of the most difficult decisions to make. If you have a builtin reason to choose one area over another (it's close to work; it's where you grew up and you're emotionally tied to it; there's a rumor about a professional football team coming soon), it can be easier. But for the rest of us, a multitude of factors can make the choice challenging. So how do you know where to buy if you've got value in mind? Here are a couple schools of thought. Go where the rich go. A recent feature in CNN Money noted that "The United States is the top destination for those worth more than $30 million buying residential property valued at a million or more, according to a report from Wealth-X and Sotheby's International Reality." New York is the leading city worldwide for wealthy residences, they said. Los Angeles and San Francisco are also in the top five. Within those cities, individual neighborhoods cater to moneyed buyers. So what do you do if you can't afford those premium neighborhoods? You live close by. It's not a unique situation. There is a long history of ‘adjacent' neighborhoods gaining in reputation and value simply because of what they are next to." Go where Starbucks goes. "Confirmation that Starbucks is boosting more than your productivity," said Apartment Therapy. "Higher home prices actually follow Starbucks, rather than the other way around." Yes, call it "The Starbucks effect," said TIME magazine. "Proximity to a local coffee shop has a very real, and positive, effect on home values," with data over 17 years showing that "homes adjacent to the local Starbucks almost doubled in value, up by 96%. Those further out appreciated by 65% over the same period." Go where the schools are. It's an obvious choice to look for good schools for homebuyers that have a family or are planning for one. In fact, in some cases, buyers are willing to forgo other amenities to be in a top school district. Ultimate Woman International February/ March 2015

"

Homebuyers are willing to pay more and give up certain home features for a

home located in their district of choice," said AOL. "They are especially willing to give up accessibility to shopping and nearby parks and trails among other amenities, to reside within school district boundaries of choice." "Living near a high-scoring school can increase your home's value by over $200,000, according to the Brookings Institution," said AOL. "That's not chump change. There are plenty of attractive advantages that come with proximity to a school, including increased police protection, personal use of school facilities and living in a ‘Drug-Free School Zone.' "Even those couples who don't have kids yet but are planning to are worried about the quality of schools in the neighborhoods where they are considering buying," said Stacie Staub of Live Urban Real Estate. "High-scoring or popular schools do raise property values and demand for homes, no question."

How did you choose your neighborhood?

Mango Avocado Shrimp Salad

Photo: Iain Bagwell; Styling: Dan Becker

This Caribbean-inspired salad is a snap to throw together for a quick lunch or for a fresh springtime appetizer because it uses pre-cooked shrimp. Let’s get started You will need Potatoes, 5 lbs bag Bacon, a 1 lb packet Cheese, 1 1/2 cups (I used the casserole mix, but any will work.) Green Onion, one bunch sliced (about 6-7 individual green onions.) Mayo, about 1-1/2 cups Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions 1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into quarters (helps them cook faster). Then, boil them in water until tender enough that you can stick a fork in them. (Not too tender, though. You want chunks in your salad, not mashed potatoes.) 2. While you wait for the potatoes, fry the bacon. Place them on a paper towel to let the oil drain out and to cool. Then, cut or shred into small chunks. 3. Slice your green onion into thin slices. 4. Once the potatoes are done, drain the water and let them cool down a bit. Then, dice into 1-1 1/2 inch squares. Place in a large mixing/serving bowl. 5. Add cheese to the potatoes when they are still a bit warm so the cheese melts. 6. Add all other ingredients and mix together. Add salt and pepper to taste.

This is a great recipe! I have tried it twice. I am not a big mayo fan, so I used some mayo and sour cream. Make sure you use real bacon. It makes a difference in taste. I love the simplicity of this dish! Ultimate Woman Int!

It was 2011 and I was a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters. I enjoyed my time with my “Little” and she had begun opening up to me about challenges in her life. We would spend time at the park playing on the swings or kicking around a soccer ball. I tried to do “active” and sports related things with her. One night at dinner, she casually announces that a class mate had approached her about joining a gang. Naturally, I thought this had to mean a playground gang in which 10 year olds made believe on the playground as that’s how it would have been when I was 10. But instead, she was referring to an actual street gang. I asked her if she knew what a gang did and she responded, “Yes, they shoot and kill people and stuff”. To say I was shocked by a 10 year old showing legitimate interest in joining a gang is an understatement. My Little was a good kid but came from a rough neighborhood.

On February 21, 2011 my biological little brother suffered a near death hockey accident when the skate of an opponent sliced his neck open. As a result, his thyroid, carotid artery, jugular, muscles, nerves and tissue were all cut. In the moments following the accident, he skated back to the bench and his coaches shuttered at the amount of blood and the inside of his neck being exposed. We were beyond lucky that morning. In the arena that morning was an oral surgeon who knew enough to stick his hand in the wound and hold the carotid artery in hopes of saving my brother from bleeding out. In the course of 7 minutes, he lost 2 pints of blood. Needless to say, he was rushed to a trauma 1 hospital in Torrance, California where he underwent emergency surgery. The following morning the I.C.U. doctors and his surgeon made the rounds and he promptly asked when he could play hockey again. In the moment this question stunned my family. Just 24 hours earlier, we weren’t sure if he was going to survive and now he’s asking when he can play the game that almost killed him. But, in hindsight, I am not sure why I was surprised. As that’s my brother. That’s his spirit. I am happy to report that my brother returned to the ice to play hockey once again just 9 weeks after this terrifying experience and nearly four years later, he’s still competitively playing the sport he started when he was 2. He loves hockey and wasn’t ready to hang up his skates. To say the least, witnessing this spirit and determination was beyond inspiring.

It was Father’s Day of 2012 and I sat down with my Dad and told him I wanted to start a non-profit based on the experience I had with my Little and the inspiring story of my brother. The non-profit would support kids and athletics. In August 2012, I founded Angels for Athletes. Our mission is to enrich and empower resourced youth by providing financial assistance and equipment for their involvement in recreational sports programs. In addition, we provide a college scholarship to high school athletes coming back from a sports related injury.

Is Network Marketing Right for You? The kids are back in school, giving parents everywhere some much needed down time. What will you do with your new-found free time? Kick back and find a hobby, try to earn some extra cash, or both?

Network marketing can be a fantastic way to earn a little (or a lot!) of extra money. Oftentimes, parents get into this type of business in hopes of being able to stay home with their children.

Unfortunately, this industry is riddled with folks trying to peddle products and their business for the wrong reason. Many leave network marketing frustrated and no better off than when they started- that’s why I started Choosing A HomeBased Career . I have seen too many friends try network marketing and leave emptyhanded, so I set out to de-mystify the industry.

Here are my top three tips to ensure your success in network marketing. Choose a company whose products you are truly passionate about. Don’t jump onboard with Herbalife just because your friend told you to- if you’re going to be a representative of a company you need to passionately stand behind their products. Try the company’s products yourself first. Align yourself with a company that still offers a real opportunity to their new reps. Generally speaking, the longer a company has been around, the more saturated their market (and recruiting potential) is. Look at the company’s products- are they unique? Avon and Mary Kay offer a few good products, but nearly every type of product they offer can be purchased with ease in numerous stores or online. For women who are interested in Avon or Mary Kay, I would highly recommend looking at Nerium International instead.
