It was January last year when V64 Art Studio first opened its doors to an eager audience. A group of over 60 artists had got together to form a collective that snapped up a former warehouse deemed suitable for conversion, in ViphavadiRangsit 64 (hence the name).
a souvenir shop, a coffee shop and bar, additional workshop space, the V64 Art Academy and rooms to accommodate guests and international artists.
A second gallery was recently opened when the studio played host to a group exhibition by leading artists. Now home to over 70 artists, self taught and with degrees Traces of Thought featured the work of five art teachers at Rajamangala University of Technology, and from established art schools, the 4,800 square metre property contains over 35 studios, a gallery, a music school, was on display until the end of December.

Cece Nobre in his colourful studio at V64. Other international artists that call V64 home include Gwyn Faenol, bottom left, from Wales, and Paul de Blieck, bottom right, from Belgium. Workshops for ceramics, sculpture and mixed media are held at V64, along with art and music courses for members of the public from three years of age upwards. The studio is proud to welcome visitors to the regularly held exhibitions, but also aims to bring art to the people of Bangkok, with exhibitions already being held at leading city centre hotels. Other exhibitions at other top venues are in the pipeline. V64 is without doubt unique in Thailand. The concept has proved successful in other countries, but the Bangkok collective had to take a great leap of faith,
with contemporary art only really emerging with any degree of success in Thailand in recent years. It is to their great credit, therefore, that the studio continues to grow and its reputation continues to be enhanced. The studio has now become a distinct member of the Viphavadhi community. Visitors can explore the studio and galleries between the hours of 10.30 am and 8.30 pm every day of the week, with food and beverages to be had at the V64 coffee shop and bar. Creativity, artistic values and freedom of expression are evident throughout, and the artists are more than happy to discuss their projects with guests.
