Perro Perdido sea, se ha ido y algo tenemos que hacer. En el pasado, lo que hacíamos era escribir en una hoja toda la información pertinente agregando una foto, hacíamos un montón de copias de la misma, y pegábamos el volante en cada uno de los postes de teléfono de la comunidad, y preguntando si alguien había visto al perro. Hoy en día, mensajes de texto, correo electrónico, IM (mensajería instantánea), los widgets de chat, facebook etc., son los “postes de telefonía electrónica» que tiene la misma función, con la ventaja de ser mucho más rápida con una exposición más amplia y mayor sensibilización del público. eing the communications person for Lagunas, I often receive many calls about Lost Dogs. A lot of us have at least one of those four-legged critters running around the house. In addition to being on the front line of home security, these canines (K9) are unconditional companions, “Man’s Best Friend.” That might explain why we feel so upset when the dog is lost. If the dog knows the neighbor-hood, must likely did not “run away” maybe just went on a reconnaissance tour; sometimes they get bored, too. He will probably be back after he has satisfied his curiosity, or if he gets hungry, thirsty, or tired, unless, of course, he has met a female giving him encouraging signs. Then it might be a while before you see him again. No matter what the case is, when our dog is gone, we have to do something about it. In the past, we used to make up a flyer with all the pertinent information, including a recent photo of the lost dog; we made a bunch of copies of it, and

went around the community plastering the flyer to telephone poles, and asking people if they have seen it around. In this modern age, the text messaging, e-mail, IM (instant messaging), chat widgets, etc., are the equivalent of the “electronic telephone pole” that accomplishes the same thing albeit much faster with a larger exposure, and awareness to the public. Here is the information the electronic message (electronic telephone pole) should include when you post it on the public media: dog’s name, recent photo, description (size, color, distinguishing features), the breed, if it wears a collar, and if carries name tag. Your neighborhood communicator would have, without a doubt, the local police officer or the veterinarian´s e-mail address to give them the heads up, as well. In Lagunas, as far as I know, we have a 100% “find” rate; of course, most of the dogs go back home on their own after their reconnaissance tour. n

iendo la persona de contacto en Lagunas, recibo muchas llamadas cuando se pierde un perro. Muchos de nosotros tenemos al menos una criatura de cuatro patas correteando por la casa. Además de jugar un papel importante en la seguridad del hogar, estos canes son nuestros compañeros incondicionales, “el mejor amigo del hombre”. No es de extrañar que nos sintamos mal cuando perdemos nuestro perro. Si el perro conoce la vecindad probablemente no está perdido, tal vez solamente fue a dar un paseo, también los perros se aburren. Probablemente volverá cansado, con hambre y sed, después de haber satisfecho su curiosidad. A menos que, por supuesto, se haya encontrado con una hembra que le dio señales alentadoras; en cuyo caso podría tardar algún tiempo en regresar. Como
