College Park Aviation Museum Art Contest ENTRY DEADLINE: Friday, April 21 | WINNER’S RECEPTION: Sunday, May 22, 2 pm This contest is open to artists of all ages! Students grades K-8 will create artwork on the theme of World War I aviation innovation. Artists in high school and above will design propaganda posters that reflect the ideas that circulated in the media during that time period. Top entries will be on display at the museum with prizes awarded to the winner of each category. For more information and rules visit CollegeParkAviationMuseum.com or call 301-864-6029.

FOR OUR GLIDER (GRADES K-3) AND PROPELLER (GRADES 4-8) FRIENDS World War I required many technological innovations in aviation as the military needed to make sure their troops were properly prepared for battle. This meant that many new planes were designed and flown in just a few short years. Use the exhibit “Over Here & Over There: Prince George’s County during World War I” at College Park Aviation Museum to make a work of art that reflects this history!

FOR JETS (GRADES 9-12) AND ROCKETS (ADULTS) Artwork and propaganda posters became a heavily used medium during World War I to promote participation in the war effort. One of the most iconic images to emerge from this period was the portrait of “Uncle Sam” saying “I want you for the U.S. Army” made in 1916 by artist James Montgomery Flagg. Use these works and the “Over Here & Over There: Prince George’s County during World War I” exhibit as inspiration to create your own historical propaganda poster.
