AFRICA REGION DRR/CCA LEARNING RETREAT
In a remarkable display of commitment to enhancing Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and entrenching best practices, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Africa Region convened a Regional DRR/CCA Learning Retreat held at Lukenya Getaway in Athi River, Kenya.
The retreat, spanning from the 19th to the 21st of June 2023, convened experts, stakeholders, and participants from diverse NSs, PNSs, organizations to address the escalating challenges of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA).
Key Retreat Outcomes: Development of a three-year DRR/CCA strategy for the region Detailed roadmap for the implementation of the strategy Compilation of experiences and lessons learned in DRR/CCA Establishment of a well-structured working group for learning and mentorship in Africa Key Retreat Activities: Tree Planting Session, Market Place Session, Presentations on cross-cutting issues... 02 / 10

IDRR DAY CELEBRATION On October 17, 2023, the International Federation
of
Red
Cross
and
Red
Crescent Societies (IFRC) Africa Region marked the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) with a virtual celebration National
that Societies,
brought
together
experts,
and
stakeholders in an insightful webinar. This came a few days after the global marking of the DRR day on October 13th 2023 with ANS commemorating the IDDRR with series of activities ranging from engagement with national governments, workshops and symposiums, road shows,
Radio and Television shows, launching of innovative tools, tree planting amongst others. This year's IDDRR day focused on the theme 'Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future,' acknowledging the intertwined relationship between disasters and inequality. The event provided a platform for a deep dive into discussions about the reciprocal impact of disasters and growing inequality, especially in the context of the mid-term review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015 – 2030.

ACOP MONTHLY MEETING In our continued commitment to fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and building capacities within the community of practice, The IFRC Africa Region DRR team under the pillar of Technical Support and Capacity Building initiated and held 2 Community of Practice (COP) meetings aimed at equipping members with the tools and insights needed to enhance their contributions to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) efforts. The first webinar in March focused on CEA in DRR/CCA. This webinar x-rayed the critical theme of Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) in the context of DRR and CCA and recognizes the pivotal role that communities play in shaping and sustaining resilience. In May, we shifted our focus to the Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement and its integral role in Disaster Risk Reduction. The webinar will provided a comprehensive overview, covering; DRR within the RCRC Movement, Case Studies from the African Region, Integrating DRR into Humanitarian Action and Q&A and Interactive Discussions
