www.peoriaaz.gov As we all get even busier with upcoming holiday celebrations and spending time with friends and family, it’s a good time to reflect on all the wonderful opportunities, some new and some ongoing (or maybe even just ‘new to you’), that Peoria has to offer its citizens and visitors.

Pioneer Community Park As of this summer, did you know that the City of Peoria had 127 playgrounds? And this fall, the grand opening of the newest community park – Pioneer Community Park – added two more to that contingent. If you haven’t had a chance to head out to Pioneer yet, the new year will boast the kickoff of sporting events and tournament use, plus time to start fishing for a mix of rainbow trout, channel catfish, bluegill or sunfish, depending on the season. Bring your picnic lunch and be sure to visit the 3 acre dog park, children’s playground areas, walking path and lighted fields for baseball or softball and soccer. Plus check out Heritage Court, an intimate plaza area for small events, and start planning your next family celebration. Bring your kids, bring your family, because remember, “…parks are valuable community resources across all segments of the population. Parks provide opportunities for physical activity and enhance the social fabric of the community through gatherings and picnics.” (CDC)

March Gets Busy – Spring Training and P83 Party Baseball in the springtime is the best! And a concert to go along with it?! What could be better? Get ready for Spring Training with the box office opening at the Peoria Sports Complex on January 4. Since 1994, 3.95 million fans have attended a Spring Training game at the Peoria Sports Complex – come add to that figure this year! This will be the fourth annual P83 Party in the City of Peoria; for the first three years, over 16,000 people have shared in the musical festival in the street. “Some argue that the real benefits of festivals and special events are more social than economic” (Sem and Simonson, 1989). On March 22, the P83 Party kicks up the fun again with a national headline band (to be announced in January), interactive zone, Flavors of Peoria, a beer garden and more. Admission to the P83 Party will be $10 for general admission and $25 for VIP seating.
