New Fitness Class Now offering the L.E.A.N. Teen exercise and nutritional education program! L.E.A.N. stands for Lifestyle, Exercise And Nutrition; this program is geared towards getting young teens active and healthy through regular exercise requirements, one-on-one time with a certified Rio Vista Personal Trainer and an evaluation of a 3-day food diary by a certified Nutritional Counselor. As part of the registration, the teen will receive a Rio Vista bag and workout towel.

Lil Learner’s All Day Preschool Peoria Lil’ Learner’s provides an opportunity for children to participate in a variety of activities and expand education, social and developmental skills in a supervised and secure environment. The program is licensed by the department of Health Services.

Program Fees: A $30 non-refundable registration fee is required for all participants at the time of enrollment. Registration will be accepted any time during the year based on availability. Check our website for participation fees.

Children 3 1/2 – 5 years old. Children must be able to toilet themselves. No pull-ups.

SUMMER SCHOOL RATE: The Summer Camp offers a reduced daily rate (see chart) for children who are registered and attending Summer School with PUSD. Tiny Tots Summer Recreation Tiny Tots is a recreational based program, licensed by the Department of Health Services (DHS). The program offers a variety of daily activities with field trips and/or special on site activities for an additional fee. Children may attend any days and times that are convenient. A parent or authorized person on the “Emergency Form” MUST sign the child in and out of the program. ID will be requested. PARENT INFORMATION LETTER: A parent letter will be emailed out for those who provide a valid email address on their registration. The letter will contain basic program information, the first weeks of coupons and a schedule of the main field trips. Do not call to have your child placed in a specific group at Parkridge. Children are placed the day they arrive and need consent of the parent to be moved to another room. Peoria doesn’t utilize a group system.

Lil’ Learner’s Summer Fun Program The summer program incorporates field trips, guest speakers and activities into the regular curriculum. Field trips are offered thru the week to: Harkins movies, Wazee’s World, Sunrise Pool swim and Oasis Gymnastics focusing on gross motor skills. Possible guest speakers are Peoria Fire Department, Oliver the Otter, sun safety and bike and helmet safety. Overall, Peoria Lil’ Learner’s provides an opportunity for children to participate in a variety of activities and expand education, social and developmental skills in a supervised and secure environment. The goal is the total well-being of each child. The program is licensed by the department of Health Services (DHS). Space is limited. Age: Children 3 1/2 – 5 years old. Summer Recreation Grades 1 - 5 Daily Trips & Packages Field trips are scheduled daily. They can be purchased individually at the site or summer packages can be bought at discounted rates. Transportation and supervision is provided for all field trips. Course #’s and locations are in the chart below. ALL PASSES ARE NON-TRASFERABLE and NON-REFUNDABLE once the program begins

Step Out Teen Summer Recreation – Grades 6 - 9 is a DROP-IN PROGRAM which means children may sign themselves in and out of the program at anytime during program hours including those that arrive on the bus shuttle. Step Out offers a full schedule of on-site activities and daily field trips. Field Trips are scheduled daily with the calendar available on-line starting May 1. Review site calendar daily for updates or talk to the site leader for information. Arrive at 8 a.m. or 45 minutes before departure time so your child does not miss the trip. No refunds are given for missed trips. Children need to bring a non-perishable lunch each day they attend, unless the following options are used. • Special Lunch - offered every Fri. for $4 from a variety of vendors; Barros, Sonic, Quizno’s, etc. • “Summer Food Program” offers free breakfast and lunch at Peoria High School only, Mon. - Thur. STEP Out After Hours The STEP Out After Hours program is to accommodate those participating in the STEP Out program who want additional summer time supervision. Participants will be bussed from their STEP Out site to the Rio Vista Recreation Center where parents will pick-up their teen any time before 6 p.m. The After Hours program will be staffed by City of Peoria Teen TEAM Staff. This is designed for those who are walkers, and who have developed passed the Parent/Infant classes. It will again focus on fun and help children become acclimated to the water. Instructors will provide games/songs for skill development. An adult must be in the water with the child.

Intro to Preschool (2yrs. - 5yrs.) This class is designed to prepare kids for the Preschool 1 Class. It includes swim readiness and class readiness skills. Parents are allowed to accompany the child, but to pass the class the child must be consistently comfortable in the water without the parent. (Similar to the 2010 Preschool A Class).

Preschool 1 (2yrs. – 5yrs.) This class is for those who are consistently comfortable in the water and/or have passed Intro to Preschool. It will focus on learning to float and introduce arm and leg movements. Skills are similar to the Youth 1, but geared toward the younger participants.

Preschool 2 (3yrs. – 5yrs.) This class is for those who are able to float unassisted and glide off the wall for 5 yards and/or have passed Preschool 1. It will focus on front and back strokes, including rotary breathing. Skills are similar to the Youth 2, but geared toward the younger participants.

Level 3 (5yrs. & Up) This class is for those who are able to swim 10 yards on their front and back unassisted and/or have passed Preschool 2/Youth 2. It will introduce breaststroke and butterfly, and continue to develop front and back strokes.

Level 4 (5yrs. & Up) This class is for those who are able to swim 25 yards freestyle using rotary breathing, 25 yards backstroke, have been introduced to breaststroke and butterfly and/or have passed Level 3. It will expand on the stroke foundations and participants will be swimming distances of 25 yards or more.

Level 5 (5yrs. & Up) This class is for those who are able to swim at least 25 yards of the 4 competitive strokes and tread water for 60 seconds and/or have passed Level 4. It will continue to refine stroke techniques and increase swimming distances.

Swim Prep Classes Pre Comp (5yrs. & up) This class is for those who have passed level 5 and/or are on swim team or wishing to improve their competitive strokes. It will focus on competition strokes as well as competitive starts, turns and relays.

Swim Team Prep (5yrs. – 18yrs.) This special class is offered during spring only, and is for those who are planning to participate in the Peoria Swim Team League. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of each competitive stroke. Swim Team Prep Group 1 is for ages 5 - 8yrs, Group 2 is for ages 9 - 12yrs, and Group 3 is for ages 13 - 18yrs.

Dive Classes Dive Lessons 10 and Younger (5yrs - 10 yrs) This class is designed for those 10 years old and younger. Beginning basics all the way up to intermediate skills will be taught and participants will be divided by skill level. Participants must be able to enter the water head first from the side of the pool.

Dive Lessons 11 & Older (11yrs - 18 yrs) This class is designed for those 11 years old and older. Beginning basics all the way up to intermediate skills will be taught and participants will be divided by skill level. Participants must be able to enter the water head first from the diving board.

Specialty Classes Adaptive Swim Lessons (5yrs. – 10yrs.) Adaptive Swim is a class designed to teach swim skills, increase swimmer’s knowledge of safety around the water, maintain and increase physical fitness, achieve success, and receive recognition with an aquatic environment. Special Olympics This internationally recognized sports program is open to cognitively disabled individuals 8 years and older. Athletes must have a current physical on file with the Adaptive Recreation staff in order to be registered for Special Olympics competition and training.

Summer/Fall Special Olympics Sports Registration There is a biannual $25 participation fee for Special Olympics. This fee will allow athletes to participate in any of the following sports: swimming, soccer and softball. Call the Community Center to register.

Swim Team Athletes must be able to swim the length of the pool without assistance. Athletes must attend a minimum of 65% of the practices to attend upcoming swim meets. Practice will begin on Mon., July 23. A schedule of practice and meets will be given to the swimmer and located on our website.

DES/DDD Funded Programs The City of Peoria Adaptive Recreation Program contracts with the Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities, to offer a variety of Day Treatment and Training Services. The primary goal of all DES/DDD contracted programs is to enhance social and independent living skills through various recreational opportunities and through community outings and service projects. All programs are staffed on a 1:4 staff-to-participant ratio, so a moderateto-high level of independence is required. ➤ After School Recreation Program – This program provides age appropriate activities for students 12 - 17 years of age. Program days follow the Peoria Unified School District calendar. Registration for the 2012 - 2013 school year will be accepted after July 1st. ➤ Adult Day Recreation Program – This program is designed to provide unique and challenging activities in a small group setting. There is no membership fee required and programs are open to residents and non-residents. Resident Rate If where you permanently reside or live is located within the corporate limits of the City of Peoria and you pay property taxes to the City, you are eligible for the resident rate. Proof of residency is required at the time of registration. Acceptable proof is a copy of your property tax statement showing the physical location of your residence or we can look this up at www.maricopa.gov.

Registration for trips is on a first come, first served basis. PAYMENT IS DUE AT TIME OF REGISTRATION. Times, and occasionally prices, are subject to change. Cancellations: For events where a ticket has been purchased or space booked from an outside agency (theater, travel company, etc.) we cannot issue a full refund, we can only try to resell your ticket, or you may sell it yourself. In some cases, a partial refund will be mailed to you in approximately 3 - 4 weeks. Transportation is by school bus, City van or charter bus. All trips require a minimum number of registrations. Arrive at least 15 minutes before departure time.

City of Peoria Youth Scholarship Program Community Services Department How Can My Child Participate in the Scholarship Program? Overview The City of Peoria Community Services Department offers recreation programs which are supported by user fees paid by participants for each program in which they register. The Community Services Department is committed to making its programs accessible and affordable to all the citizens of Peoria. The Youth Scholarship Program enables the Community Services Department to fulfill this commitment. Eligibility Requirements To qualify for reduced fees, the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the participant must meet the following guidelines: 1. Participate in a state or federal assistance program: • Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) • Supplemental Security Disability • Insurance (SSDI) • Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) • Reduced Lunch Program/Free Lunch Program • Subsidized Housing (HUD) • Department of Economic Security (DES) • State Foster Care Program OR 2. Annual Income within federal HUD low-income guidelines.

Guidelines • Four requests per youth per calendar year or $150 per youth per calendar year. • Scholarships are for youth, ages 18 and younger. • The Youth Scholarship Program is limited to City of Peoria residents only. Proof of residency is required.(water bill, drivers license, etc.) • All participants in the Youth Scholarship Program must pay a minimum of $5 per program to be registered. • Scholarships are issued for registration fees only, all supplies and other costs are the participant’s responsibility. • Parents whose annual income falls within federal HUD low income guidelines will be considered for scholarships in the following increments: 20%, 40%, 60% & 80% • Documentation of guardianship, participation in a state or federal assistance program and/or annual income must be supplied before a scholarship may be awarded. Documentation for annual income must be from the previous year’s Federal and State income with attached W-2 wage statement tax forms. Documentation is valid for one calendar year (Jan. – Dec.). • Peoria Youth Scholarships are not available for DES funded programs such as the AM/ PM Program and Summer Camp. Contact DES at (623) 846-1046 to find out more information on how to apply for assistance through their agency. • Special cases will be reviewed on an individual basis.
