From the initiation of the Community Centre Renovation to new faces on our team, it has been a dynamic season. The Community Centre is going to be undergoing a minor facelift to correct life safety and operational deficiencies. The improvements include: • Adding a new corridor from Council Chambers to the back hallway improving emergency access from the washrooms • A new entry from the staff offices to the Council Chambers • Improved handicapped washroom space The improvements will also reconfigure the Council Chambers setup for webcasting functionality and increase the space for staff areas. The renovations are expected to be complete by the end of September. We are again kicking off fall with our “Try It” opportunities. “Try it” gives you a chance to participate in a program of choice to see if you will like it. Have you ever wanted to try the fitness room, Spin Bike classes or Yoga? If yes, we invite you to join in for these one day classes. See p. 2 for a full listing.

We’re Listening! Customer Service Feedback The District is continuously striving to develop new ways to improve service delivery to you. Your feedback is very important to us. Customer Service Feedback Kiosks are located at Municipal Buildings where you can give constructive feedback regarding your customer service experience with the District of Peachland.

The Mayor’s Task Force on Climate Change Local governments across the province are taking action to address the often devastating effects that climate change can have on communities. The easiest and most cost effective way to do this is to attempt to minimize the impact of climate change through action as opposed to reaction. This means that reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions through GHG reduction initiatives is imperative if major shifts in the world’s climate leading to costly clean up and rebuilding are to be avoided. Initiated in 2011, the Mayor’s Task Force is just one way that the District is finding to address this very important issue. The Mayor’s Task Force meets on the last Wednesday of every month and provides feedback to Council regarding climate programs and initiatives that the District may undertake. In 2013, the committee recommended that Council sponsor three classes at Peachland Elementary to participate in the Climate Change Showdown. During this challenge, students from Kelowna and Peachland reduced Greenhouse Gas emissions by an estimated 42.4 tonnes. Additionally, Mrs. Frey’s class from Peachland Elementary won the 2014 challenge! The committee meetings are open to anyone who may wish to attend. For more information contact Planning and Development Services at 250-767-2647.
