WE PAY CASH!!!

Reasons why we pay to park

There is city-owned

property in several of these locations. The current parking arrangements at SkyTrain leave much to be desired. At King George station, a large private lot keeps boosting its rates. For the bloated rate, people who park there must trudge a long distance to find a parking machine. Lighting is also insufficient at night. The Scott Road parking lot is more reasonably-priced, but it isn’t big enough. If a large cityowned parking lot could be put in place near Gateway and/or Surrey Central stations, it would be a great service to Surrey residents. The city must also be sensitive to the concerns of local businesses when it comes to expanding parking. As White Rock’s example has shown, pay parking does deter some customers from going to certain businesses. Businesses should not be punished for locating in hightraffic areas, particularly when most of their competitors offer free parking. So far, Surrey’s more-gradual approach to this issue seems to be working. However, the city needs to consult widely with businesses and neighbouring residents to ensure that pay parking does not put too onerous a burden on a few people.
