Tomina Grand Champion 4-H steer sired by HBSF Specialist 108U

Welcome to the 10th Annual Family Tradition Bull Sale It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 10th Annual Family Tradition Bull Sale. Tradition at our house runs deep; but the tradition that runs deepest is the 30 year commitment we have had to producing top notch bulls for the commercial and purebred breeder alike. Despite the rush around bull sale season, it’s a time when we reflect on the past year, and upon reflection we can certainly say this has been an exciting year, for both our family and farm. The girls are busy as always with Erin working for Cargill, Fawn for the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, Haylan going to school to be a teacher and Autumn to be a nurse. The only “free labour” we have at home now is Tomina, if she can fit us into her schedule! And we are excited to (finally) be adding a son to our clan as Erin and Scott were engaged over the summer. On the farm side of things we have been diligently working to increase our purebred herd numbers to ensure that we continue to offer the breadth and depth of bulls you have all come to know to be offered at the sale. This has certainly kept us hopping during calving and breeding season! Hitting the show circuit has become harder for us to do given the growth of our operation and the fact that the day only has so many hours! However, this summer Tomina did excellent with her 4-H steers winning two local shows and had a strong showing at the Calgary Stampede. We are excited to be offering you this powerful set of Charolais and Simmental Bulls. Zorro is perhaps the most exciting calf we have ever raised. However the consistency and quality throughout our bull pen is what makes us most proud to be offering this set of bulls. The bulls are a reflection of the foundation females of our herd: sound and stout. We remain committed to producing functional bulls fitted to your operation that will add profit to your bottom line. You are welcome to come and view the bulls and their dams any time prior to the sale, or if you need assistance in any way please call one of us or our professional sales team. We would like to thank all of the buyers and bidders who continue to support our program and enable us to continue doing what we love. We would also like to extend great appreciation to our committed staff and family that contribute infinitely to the success of our program. We look forward to hosting you on sale day and encourage you to add The Family Tradition to your operation. The Tradition Continues, Carman and Donna

I am of the firm belief that when working with purebred operations such as the Jacksons that it should be a whole herd approach from the ground up. The cow herd is the base of the bull crop each year so I approach them the same way as the bulls and that is developing feeding programs that have longevity as just one of the main goals. The basis of the feeding program for the bull calves was to ease them into manhood so that Carman and Donna’s customers can expect these bulls to go out and work for you year after year. I emphasize the development of a strong structure so feet, legs and athleticism are priority; we ensured that these boys received a balanced ration a little above the average. We balance the rations with superior levels of protein, minerals and vitamins to ensure healthy development of the reproductive organs and muscle. The energy levels are designed to match the protein and ensure that they hit the targeted weight that you, their customers, expect from their genetics. The feeding program is based on a TMR (total mixed ration) so higher roughage levels are used in their program which has the energy, protein, minerals and vitamins all mixed together with the silage. So step up and buy with confidence and put some of Carman and Donna’s superior genetics to work in your herd. Your partner in beef production, Kevin Wadham JM Beef Consulting 3

Sales Management Comments The “Esperenza” sire group will be the largest in numbers and carry a Probably what is one of the most appropriately named bull sales in the lot of consistency and uniformity. Commercial cattlemen will be able to country lives up to its name annually by extending their hospitality to mark many brothers in this group their “cattle family”. The public is always treated to a great day of food and refreshments that most likely will have a unique spin on it. And most The Charolais two-year-olds are also very consistent and offer obvious definitely, everyone is encouraged to stick around for the “after-party”! advantages. The bulls are very strong for this year’s sale. Standouts include “Zorro”, the “Firewater” son who is out of the same “Hank” cow that produced the 2nd high seller from two years ago to Pleasant Dawn. Three other sharp looking “Firewater” sons will be offered too.

“Express” was the high seller two years ago to the Kruk’s and he has a fantastic set of Red Factor sons in the pen including one (at least) that “breeders” will need to mark on their herdbull shopping travels. Unfortunately, “Express” is now deceased.

The Simmental group is headlined by a very good set of black bulls by Harvie Wallbanger! By the time this sale happens, the “Wallbangers” will have already generated some serious dollar values in the business. The Red Simmis are solid and either sired by the former CWA Champion, “General Lee” or by the Kopp Farms bred “Touchdown”. I encourage you to make the effort to personally attend this family event hosted at the Digby farm. However, in the event you can’t be on site yourself, please feel free to call on us to represent your buying needs with our industry leading, free order-buying services. For the “Jackson’s”

“Power in the Blood” Zorro is perhaps the most exciting bull that we have ever raised! He has “Power in his Blood”. Sired by the exciting Fire Water bull whose progeny have been setting records across Canada and the US in both the show and sale ring. A Fire Water heifer calf was at the side of her mother to win Agribition Supreme Champion 2012! Zorro’s dam, Schatzi comes from a powerful cow family that exhibits an abundance of volume and impeccable udder quality. Schatzi is the dam of HBSF Extra 2X – the Performer herdbull working for Pleasant Dawn Charolais, as well she has full brothers in the herds of C2 Charolais, Glen Pitman, Forsyth Bros. and she caused much excitement when she won First Lady Survivor in 2006 and Harvie Ranching purchased a half interest. Zorro offers more than genetics – he carries that presence about him that all great breeding bulls possess. Zorro is very sound, he has a nice head, is long bodied, smooth made with abundant hair and testicles, and a gentle disposition. We are PROUD to have raised this exciting calf and to offer him for sale at our 10th annual Family Tradition Bull Sale.

Lots of style in this calf. He is deep, thick, carries muscle well down the leg and is moderate framed. We love his dam; she is a good looking, moderate framed, Hank daughter with a perfect udder. She is the mother of our 2012 high selling bull, and has an Express bull calf by her side for next year. Make sure you check this bull calf out on sale day – he’s the total combination.

The more HBSF Express calves we have, the more we believe that he and his sons are going to be great red herdsires in the industry.

Some cows can really raise herd bulls, and MMJ 8S is one of those females! MMJ 8S has a Dynamite Black son working at Big Sky Simmental that we are proud to have raised. Black Jack is stylish, free moving, hairy, thick, and a disposition second to none; what makes this Wallbanger son unique is his balance and tremendous amount of body. Express’ first calf crop produced the 2012 Reserve Grand Champion female at Brandon and the Junior Calf Champion at Agribition for Wilgenbusch Charolais.
