SBO 0001

Entrepreneurs who disdain accounting and drop it in the lap of an accountant are sacrificing a major avenue for control of their businesses. It may be wise to hire an accountant, but it is also essential to understand what the accountant is doing and how it affects budgeting and taxes. In this class, accounting principles, financial statements, and tax strategies are reviewed and explained in simple language. This class won’t make the small business person an accountant. it will give invaluable insight into how accounting impacts relationships with governmental agencies such as the IRS and how an understanding of accounting can enable entrepreneurs to guide and grow their businesses. Obtaining bank or investor financing to start or grow a small business has become one of the most challenging aspects of entrepreneurship. Bankers and investors are looking harder at the entrepreneur’s strategy for success. Approaches to answering a lender’s or investor’s questions, demonstrating a business model that is effective, and accumulating the supporting material that puts funding over the top are covered in a detailed, systematic way. Taking this class will not guarantee small business persons funding, but it will give them the opportunity to give the process their best effort. (3 hours) REF# DAY DATE TIME LOCATION

Demystifying Payroll for the Small New! Business Person

Getting Your Business Up and Running

New!

SBO 0004

SBO 0002

$39.00

Payroll management is one of the most intimidating responsibilities facing small business owners. Are workers employees or contractors? How are payroll taxes withheld and matched by the employer? How is payroll data reported to the state and the IRS? What do the dizzying array of numbered IRS forms (940, 941, W2, W3, W4, W9, etc.) do? When must they be filed? Entrepreneurs will learn how to perform payroll functions to the extent that they can make an informed decision about how to classify workers, whether or not they can perform their own payroll functions, and what the impact of payroll on their business budgets will be. The IRS and state taxing agencies take payroll very seriously. Therefore, understanding how it works is essential. (3 hours) REF# DAY DATE TIME LOCATION

The array of considerations that confront an entrepreneur who is serious about starting a small business can seem overwhelming. In Getting Your Business Up and Running, the information necessary to approach business formation is presented in a systematic, step-by-step manner that clarifies the process. Entity choice, tax issues, IRS and state registrations, payroll and subcontracting considerations, business plans, the rudiments of marketing and financing, and an introduction to small business accounting are covered to a depth that prepares the fledgling entrepreneur to tackle business start-up head on.
