Long Lake, NY Paul Ashley

Long Lake, NY We parked in front of the hotel, and walked through the open door. The lobby was empty. We wandered through the large bar, the sitting room, the restaurant and kitchens. No one. A telephone number on a scrap of paper on the reception desk. I called it. “I’ll be right along” he said. Long Lake is like that. Mostly empty. Between the high winter sports season and the high summer sports season it is empty. A diner that opens at 11. A hotel restaurant (but not this one) that serves an evening meal. Breakfast comes from the gas station. You could get live bait from Hoss’s Store, if it was open. There are several churches, stores, boatyards, even a seaplane base. They would probably be busy at other times. It’s a good place to listen to the wind. © Paul Ashley 2019
