NEW GUIDELINES NEW WAYS FOR THE PUBLIC TO ACCESS PATV By Josh Goding This season PATV has a new contract with Iowa City, new Guidelines for members and more to offer the public than ever before. As always, it’s free for locals to submit a noncommercial program to play on PATV. The only requirements are attending one of our free Guidelines orientation workshops -- held the first Thursday of each month at the access center -- and signing a Statement of Compliance. The Guidelines workshop starts at 6 PM and takes about an hour. After completing Guidelines, individuals and organizations can begin submitting programs, and have the option to become PATV members.

MEMBERSHIP DUES & VOLUNTEERING PATV members can take workshops in video production techniques, checkout camcorders, reserve editing bays and access the studio. Starting this fall, PATV has prorated dues for new and returning members, based around $50 per year for locals, and $75 annually for out-of-town members. As before, membership is free to local youth (14 - 17) and seniors (55+). As an alternative to dues, members can volunteer at PATV -- often on public access programs -- and work off their dues instead.

GEAR RENTAL & PRODUCTIONS FOR HIRE PATV now offers rental of some video production equipment. Individuals who need access to gear but don’t want to produce a show for channel 18, or are producing a program that is commercial in nature, can rent PATV equipment instead. Camera kits and accessories are available for rent from PATV on a daily or weekend basis. In addition to portable equipment, the public can rent PATV’s editing suites or studio space for commercial purposes as well. To find out about prices, ask for our new rental brochure. PATV now offers video production services for hire. PATV’s professional staff is accomplished at creating high-quality programs for television and Internet, and can be hired for any and all phases of video production. Whether you are seeking to create a non-commercial program for channel 18, rent video production equipment, or hire the professional staff, PATV has the resources and flexibility to meet your content creation needs. Ask the PATV team for a project cost estimate today, at contact@patv.tv!

RAGBRAI 2015 COVERAGE PATV Covers Ragbrai, from Hiawatha to Iowa City By Bryan Butt For those of you living under a rock for the past 40 years, Ragbrai is the worlds oldest, largest, and longest bicycling tour. From July 19th through the 25th, over 8,000 cyclists peddled down suburban streets, city highways, and dusty gravel crossroads across the great state of Iowa-and PATV was there to cover the ride, across two counties!

HIAWATHA PATV first met up with riders arriving in Hiawatha on Thursday, July 23rd. After the dust settled, riders welcomed to town with some tasty food, drinks, and a long needed breather. PATV got a chance to interview a handful of these teams.

HIAWATHA to MOUNT VERNON The following morning our videographer captured cyclists waking from their tented slumbers in Hiawatha’s Guthridge Park. They began their nearly 30-mile journey to the next stop in this leg of the tour, so did we.

RAGBRAI 2015 2015 RAGBRAI COVERAGE CONT. COVERAGE CONT.

SOLON

Bikers rolled into Solon on slippery terrain, heading into their local tavern or restaurant for cover. Many people didn’t mind the weather, and viewed the downpour as a free shower for the week. All kidding aside, the turnout in Solon was great and local businesses flourished!

CORALVILLE Our last featured Ragbrai stop-off was our friendly neighbor to the west, Coralville. The town truly did a bang up job of transforming the already stunning 9th Street Iowa River Landing into a Hollywood-esque haven, complete with a popcorny façade through which onlookers and bikers could enter. This 180-acre commercial district was jam packed with mingling businesses, patrons, and thrilled riders, ready to be entertained by the host towns headlining musical act, Cheap Trick.

CLOSING THOUGHTS For me, Ragbrai 2015 started out as a work assignment, but it quickly became an experience to throw myself into. I learned to let myself become engulfed in the rubber-to-asphalt lifestyle: enduring the heat and sweat, under the polystyrene protection of being part of something big and feeling extraordinarily welcomed. With all the excitement of this event now behind me, I can’t help but wonder where PATV’s next major event coverage will take me. I do hope the orgainizers of next year’s Ragbrai welcome us with open arms. Issue One | Summer 2014 206 Lafayette St. • Iowa City, Iowa • 52240 • Phone 319-338-7035 • contact@patv.tv • www.patv.tv
