PRESENTACIÓN / Foreword La Corporación del Patrimonio Cultural se enorgullece de haber colaborado en el proyecto editorial Sitios de Patrimonio Mundial en Chile, que presenta los 5 sitios de nuestro país reconocidos por la UNESCO como Patrimonio Universal. Las Salitreras Humberstone y Santa Laura, Valparaíso, el Campamento Sewell, el Parque Nacional Rapa Nui y las Iglesias de Chiloé se beneficiarán directamente de este proyecto, cuyo objetivo es la difusión del valor excepcional e importancia mundial de estos territorios. El libro explica los criterios de valor universal que tiene cada uno de los sitios en un lenguaje sencillo y ameno, que permite entender fácilmente por qué y cuáles son los atributos y características de autenticidad e integridad que hacen a cada uno de estos bienes merecedores de la admiración y atención del mundo. El trabajo fotográfico sigue la misma línea, construye imagen por imagen una fundamentación visual de gran belleza, que complementa en forma sólida el contenido del texto: cada página nos permite maravillarnos y comprender el privilegio de contar con estos bienes naturales y culturales. El resultado es que se alcanza una perfecta armonía entre texto e imágenes, que ayuda a tomar conciencia de la vulnerabilidad de nuestro entorno más valioso y a la vez despierta un compromiso por el cuidado de estos bienes para las futuras generaciones y el mundo. La Corporación del Patrimonio Cultural, cuya misión es el resguardo y difusión de nuestra herencia tangible e intangible, agradece especialmente al Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales, a Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi y a la Dirección de Bibliotecas, Archivos y Museos, que, junto a la Ley de Donaciones Culturales, colaboran a través de esta iniciativa editorial en el conocimiento y valoración de nuestra identidad y patrimonio.
The Cultural Heritage Corporation is proud to have collaborated on the publication of World Heritage Sites in Chile, which presents the 5 sites of our country acknowledged by UNESCO as a World Heritage. Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works, Valparaíso, Sewell Mining Town, Rapa Nui National Park and Churches of Chiloé will directly benefit from this project, which is intended to spread the outstanding value and world significance of these territories. This book explains, in a simple and entertaining language, the criteria of universal value of each of the sites, which allows to understand easily why and which are the attributes and characteristics of authenticity and integrity that make each of these sites worthy of world admiration and attention. The photographic work follows the same line, builds –picture by picture– a visual foundation of great beauty, which soundly complements the content of the text: every page allows us to be amazed and to understand the privilege of having these natural and cultural sites. As a result, a perfect harmony between text and pictures is achieved, which helps to become aware of the vulnerability of our most valuable environment and at the same time arouses a commitment to care of these sites for future generations and the world.
