As of January 2014, I was honored to succeed R-lene de Lang (Board Chair 2012-2013) who provided strong leadership during our 60th anniversary. “Building Hometown Legacies” was the theme of that celebratory year and of this annual report. ~ We are pleased to share with you the ways in which these legacies, created by people who love Pasadena, are helping to sustain the good work carried out by local non-profit organizations. ~ With appreciation we shine the spotlight on both our Endowment Builders whose named funds are living legacies at work today and on our Legacy Society Members whose future gifts will help meet tomorrow’s needs. ~ 60 years after our founding, we are building endowments to address today’s needs unmet and tomorrow’s needs unforeseen. Dave Davis, Chair To celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Pasadena Public Library, the Pasadena Public Library Foundation (PPLF), and The Friends of Pasadena Public Library, are collaborating to raise funds for the Central Library’s facade restoration project. PPLF, which is an endowment fund of the Pasadena Community Foundation, was established 30 years ago to refurbish and maintain the beautiful and historic Myron Hunt building. The Friends, a separate non-profit, has an impressive history of raising funds to support reading programs and projects at the nine branches. The two organizations, in partnership with the City of Pasadena, are collaborating to raise $150,000 for restoration of the facade of this magnificent building.

Elizabeth Lent Endowment

Libby Lent wrote a letter in 2003 to

Elizabeth Lent

the then new Executive Director. Libby had enclosed a check and thanked Jennifer DeVoll for the opportunity to become a Fellow. She went on to say that the Pasadena Community Foundation (PCF) was “mentioned in my estate plan.”

Ten years later, in 2013, Libby passed away at the age of 99. Her bequest to PCF has become the Elizabeth Lent Endowment which will contribute to PCF’s local grants creating a legacy for the place Libby called home for over 50 years.

Jud & Marilyn Roberts Endowment for Education

Jud & Marilyn Roberts moved

Jud & Marilyn Roberts, 1987 Library Gala

to San Marino over 50 years ago with their four children. They became engaged in the community both socially and philanthropically. When Marilyn died in 2013, the family set up her memorial fund at the Pasadena Community Foundation. Gifts to the fund were to be divided among organizations about which Marilyn cared deeply. Jud also made a contribution to set up the Jud & Marilyn Roberts Endow-

ment for Education which would create a lasting tribute to their commitment to educational causes.

Jud & Marilyn Roberts moved to San Marino more than 50 years ago with their four children, Clark, Brad, Cindy and Jeff

Ruth Stewart Martin Endowment

Ruth Stewart Martin was a generous donor to many charities in the Pasadena area. Much of her giving was done through her donor advised fund at the Pasadena Community Foundation.

Ruth Stewart Martin

When she passed away in 2013, her daughter gifted the balance in her mom’s fund to create the Ruth Stewart Martin Endowment. This legacy will ensure that Ruth keeps on giving to her community forever.

Building Hometown Legacies... ...with Local Partners In 2013, the Giesen Trust, a private foundation that had been established in 1972 became a component fund at PCF. The mission remains the same. The Board remains actively engaged with the grant making. This spring, the Giesen Trust was pleased to award $30,000 in grants to six organizations that encourage the personal and emotional development of children and youth through an experience in the visual arts.
