NEWS FLASH Conference of Tourism and Culture Ministers of the Southern Region in Bengaluru Union Minister of Tourism, Culture & DoNER Shri G. Kishan Reddy interacted with the officials of Ministry of Tourism of Culture of Southern zone in Conference of Tourism and Culture Ministers of the Southern Region in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The conference was inaugurated on October 28, 202. The inaugural function was attended by the Minister of State for Tourism, Govt, of India, Shri Ajay Bhatt, Ministers of tourism and culture from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Senior Officials from various Central Ministries, State Governments, Union Territory Administrations (UTs), Media and industry stakeholders. The Ministry of Tourism is continuously working on different verticals like infrastructure development, promotion and publicity, skill development etc. to facilitate the development of overall tourism in the region. Shri G Kishan Reddy discussed various challenges faced by the sector & measures to boost tourism while promoting the culture of each state in the region. After that presentatíons were made by various Ministries including M/o Tourism, M/o Shipping, M/o Environment, Forest and Climate Change, NEGD, to apprise the participants about the various projects and initiatives being taken by the Central Government for the development of the region. Ministry of Tourism promotes India as a holistic destination including southern region States & UTs on various platforms in Digital, Print and social media. Since April 2020, under DekhoApnaDesh campaign, the Ministry of Tourism has been conducting webinars on various tourism products including dedicated webinars on States & UTs of Southern Region. The connectivity by air, train and road to various destinations in the region is excellent and soughtafter destinations by many. During the sessions,

discussion on Heritage & Cultural Tourism initiatives, Skill development, potentiality of Cruise Tourism in the Southern Region etc. were held. The Ministry of Tourism has concentrated on the issues of Skill development in tourism sector, creating a pool of well trained and professional Tourist Facilitators is essential for providing world class services to the tourists, promotion and marketing for creating awareness about the destination in the domestic and international markets. As the domestic tourism is showing a great surge in the last few months and as the borders will be open for international tourists soon, building confidence and trust of the tourists is extremely important. Ministry of Tourism undertakes development of infrastructure at tourist destinations across the country under its infrastructure development schemes viz. Swadesh Darshan (SD) and PRASHAD (National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive).

EVENT Back to Business Sphere Travelmedia & Exhibitions has successfully organised the special tourism revival editions of 'India International Travel Mart', at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai & Tripura Vasini, Palace Grounds, Bengaluru on 18-19 October 2021 & 22 – 23 October 2021 respectively. RX Global, organiser of Arabian Travel Market (ATM), has announced that the 2022 edition of its annual showcase, will focus on the future of international travel and tourism and the likely challenges and the benefits, for a resilient industry that is still coming to terms with the new normal. “COVID-19 has dominated our lives since March 2020 and continues to do so in many parts of the world. However, although international travel & tourism has learnt from past experiences and adapted in some cases almost seamlessly, we now have an ideal opportunity to look ahead to the future of our industry. “Dwelling too much on the pre-covid past, would not necessarily be productive, especially because so many industry parameters and social attitudes have since been completely reset,” said Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market. “Undoubtedly innovation through IoT, AI, AR, VR and improved connectivity overall, will change the face of our industry dramatically, however, there are other challenges, that we should address together and share industry best practice. “These issues include climate change and broader social challenges, as well as stakeholder attitudes towards equity in health, education and economic opportunity, particularly in the communities that we operate in,” added Curtis. Mr. Pronab Sarkar, Immediate Past President of IATO has been elected as member of the SEPC Central Governing Council to represent Travel & Tourism Sector. SEPC Elections were held from 2nd to 7th September for 9 services sectors and results were announced where Mr. Sarkar has won the elections with a big margin who will be representing the Travel & Tourism Sector. With this development, travel and tourism sector will have strong representation in SEPC and will pave the way in taking up issues with the Ministry of Commerce and other Ministries through SEPC and raise our concerns.

TAAI Joins Hands with Nepal Tourism Board to Promote and Enhance Bilateral Tourism TAAI signed a MoU with the Nepal Tourism Board to Promote and Enhance Bilateral Tourism. The MoU specifically focuses on promoting mutual interests and tourist arrivals through collaboration and a cooperative approach on a reciprocal basis in the years to come. While speaking on the occasion, Jyoti Mayal, President, TAAI said that we are focusing on Tourism Product Promotion which includes bilateral assistance in promoting tourism through the organization of events/ roadshows/ conclaves/ summits/ webinars etc., to demonstrate the tourism potential of both our countries. Jyoti Mayal conveyed and opined, that India and Nepal share borders and therefore both the countries should develop more tourism, especially after the pandemic. It is indeed required to be more strategic & adopting towards new norms and marketing strategies. Tourism in our countries can see significant growth and we can eventually be the number one source market. Jammu & Kashmir Department of Tourism has started an extensive promotional campaign among the potential tourism markets across the country. The officers of Tourism Department Dr. G N Itoo, Director, Tourism, Kashmir, and Mr. Vivekanand Rai, Director, Tourism, Jammu, on 15 September 2021 held back to back meetings here with local tour operators, media fraternity and even some prospective buyers of J&K tourism products. During the meetings, the officers informed about the preparedness of the Jammu & Kashmir administration and tourism stakeholders in terms of COVID-19 protocol and precautions. They said soon after the outbreak of Covid19, the UT administration prioritised the vaccination of tourism stakeholders including taxi operators, hoteliers, shikarawallas, tourist guides, ponywallas etc. and so far 95 per cent of all tourism stakeholders stand vaccinated.

As soon as the unlocking phase started last year domestic tourists start flocking to J& K. And the state has recorded 2 lakhs 60 thousand one of its highest footfall of domestic tourists between January 2021 to Aug 2021. During the pandemic, the hospitality industry was looking for short-term gain strategies dropped by most as they will focus on value creation for the years ahead. Q3) Hotels and Resorts are designing staycation & drivacations packages, how effective it was to control the damage of the floundering economy? The covid 19 pandemic led the world to cancel vacations and business trips this year. Due to the travel restrictions, many people opted for drivacations. The recovery trajectory for hotels was dependent on drivacations offerings that target the domestic traveler, as no major corporate blocks/bookings were coming in at that point in time. Reopening Thailand for MICE The Center of Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), Thailand's government's body overseeing disease control measures and COVID19 policies, has approved TCEB's proposal to allow MICE events to be held under “COVID Free Setting” protocols, effective October 16. The approval follows the government's announcement on October 11 that fully-vaccinated overseas visitors will be allowed to enter Thailand without having to serve quarantine from November 1. The reopening will begin with a list of countries the CCSA considers lowrisk, such as the US, UK, China, Germany and Singapore. Also announced were shortened curfew hours, fewer provinces categorised as maximum controlled and strict zone where stringent controls are mandatory for gatherings, and allowing domestic flights to operate at full capacity. The approval of TCEB's MICE proposal was the result of the collaboration between TCEB, Department of Health, Department of Disease Control of The Ministry of Public Health, and 23 partner organisations, such as Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thai Exhibition Association, Business Creative and Event Management Association, and Thai Hotels Association. With the green light, organisers of meetings, trade fairs, and festivals can now proceed to plan events with more attendees that will stimulate the broader economy. Under TCEB's proposal, limits on a venue's operating hours and number of attendees will be relaxed. Trade fair centres, convention centres, exhibition halls, and event spaces in hotels and department stores will be allowed to operate until 22.00 hrs. in all cities and provinces. The number of attendees allowed will depend on the event site's risk level. There are five levels – maximum controlled and strict zone (highest risk), maximum controlled zone, controlled zone, high surveillance zone, and surveillance zone (lowest risk). For maximum controlled and strict zone, the number of attendees allowed has been raised from 25 to 50; for maximum controlled zone, from 50 to 100; for controlled zone, from 100 to 200; and for high surveillance zone, from 200 to 300. However, for surveillance zone, the number has been maintained at 500. This easing of restrictions will require venues and organisers to strictly follow a set of three “COVID Free Setting” protocols covering the event environment, personnel, and customers: COVID Free Environment requires attention to hygiene at every touch point, availability of hand wash stations and hand sanitisers, individual servings of all foods and beverages, screening of organisers and staff, pre-event and onsite communication on safety measures, a risk and emergency management plan, social distancing of at least

one metre and at least 4 sqm for each attendee, a limit of two hours per meeting session, and good air ventilation. COVID Free Personnel requires organisers and venues to deploy only fully-vaccinated staff with a screening and risk record. Staff must undergo self-test with Antigen Test Kit (ATK) and test negative no more than 72 hours prior to reporting for work. Gathering while on duty and during breaks are prohibited. Operation zones must be clearly designated and cross-zone operations must be avoided. COVID Free Customer requires an examination of an attendee's risk profile and proof of full vaccination. The attendee must strictly follow “DMHTA” – distancing, mask wearing, hand washing, temperature testing, download of Thai Chana application. Additionally, attendees must keep watch of any possible COVID-19 symptoms during attendance and postevent for at least 14 days. To organise an event, the organiser must first develop a plan based on “COVID Free Setting”, produce an emergency plan and select a venue certified with SHA+ and TMVS Plus 2HY. The plan must then be submitted for review by the communicable disease committee of the city where the event will be held. If the committee requires any a d j u s t m e n t s , t h e o rg a n i s e r m u s t c o m p l y. T h e implementation of “COVID Free Setting” will be randomly inspected by officers from the city's public health authorities or communicable disease committee. After event, the organiser must submit a report to the city's communicable disease committee and safekeep the record of attendees for at least 14 days. Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) stated that “TCEB's proposal incorporating “COVID Free Setting” is the first step towards reviving MICE in Thailand. The next step would be for TCEB and its partners to push for further easing, especially for larger size events.” Mr. Chiruit added that TCEB's proposal is to unlock cities to host events by implementing a high standard of safety. The last quarter of the year is usually a peak period for Thailand's MICE industry and the proposal is expected to benefit around 1,000 wait-listed events in Bangkok and other cities. With the go-ahead by CCSA, TCEB's proposal will pave the way for a broad spectrum of stakeholders such as venues, hotels, transport operators, restaurants, and other related businesses to kick-start their operations, which will in turn stimulate the local economy and facilitate income distribution throughout the country. However, the implementation of TCEB's proposal is subject to the trajectory of the COVID situation and TCEB and its partners are prepared to recalibrate the industry's response to stay on course to re-open Thailand for MICE.

The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) has also confirmed its re-opening in September 2022 when the revamp currently underway to boost its total area to 280,000 sqm is completed. An encouraging development is that TCEB's MICE Venue Hygiene Guidelines has now been widely accepted by MICE entrepreneurs and venue operators. Thailand's Ministry of Public Health recognises MICE as a key economic activity and has supported TCEB in the promotion of a coordinated national hygiene policy. The positioning of Thailand's MICE Cities and the development of new products and new routes under TCEB's Thailand 7 MICE Magnificent Themes have been major projects in the past year. Meanwhile, the Hirkan National Park spreads throughout the Lankaran and Astara regions and is a botanist's paradise, home to a huge variety of rare tree species, including ancient iron trees that survived the last Ice Age, as well as the endangered Caucasian leopard. Over a dozen marked routes offer great hiking opportunities, some with lunch stops and tea breaks along the way in timeless local villages. One such village is Sim in Astara, located in the heart of Talish mountains. Sim has a unique and very different atmosphere due to the tall old trees and large mossy rocks between and around the houses in the village. African Wildlife Foundation Announces Successful Return of In-person Wildlife Safari in African Countries To celebrate the safe restart of inperson travel to Africa’s vast natural landscapes, African Wildlife Foundation Safari Program announced the completion of two successful, in-person, safaris in Tanzania, recently operated in August, along with its updated safari schedule for 2022. World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has designated World Tourism Day 2021 as a day to focus on “Tourism for Inclusive Growth.” For communities in Africa working on the front lines of conservation, wildlife tourism is a critical component of livelihood, and an important driver for sustainable development. Travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic continue to have social and economic impact across the continent in protected areas, but signs of normalcy are slowly returning. AWF Safari Program Manager Carter Smith said: “We have helped many marginalized groups, who have been impacted over the past year and half. The decision was not easy. But after careful deliberation, we decided it was time to embrace this new normal and commence in-person travel. Too much is at stake.” With the international community and African governments focused on preventing biodiversity loss, wildlife tourism is elevated in terms of financing conservation communities, land leases, and resources that protect it. Before the COVID pandemic, tourism accounted for over 4% of Kenya’s GDP directly and over 10% when

accounting for indirect services related to the tourism industry. In both South Africa and Tanzania over 1.3 million jobs are linked to the tourism industry. In Rwanda, wildlife-based tourism is the highest foreign currency generator.
