The Tertiary Sector in Campo de Criptana In this project I have interviewed my father, who is the co-owner (with my uncles) of Ramírez Aplicaciones Tecnológicas. Ramírez Aplicaciones Tecnológicas (Raplitec) was founded in 1997 without any help of the government. It’s a private limited company and a small enterprise of less than 50 workers that belongs to the tertiary sector.

History Before 1997, the company was dedicated to fix TV and VHS players. But then, the company changed its policy and its name and it changed also the type of work: from fixing TV’s to making medium and low voltage installations, video intercoms installations, telecommunications installations (like phones, Internet, local networks …) and professional illumination and sound (like the sound of the concerts). Workers and working conditions With respect to the workers, they are 19 in total: 6 officials who do the important works (they are responsible for the works, they also are the supervisors of the apprentices), 4 normal workers and 6 apprentices, who do easy tasks (they are workers who are learning the profession). There are also 3 workers in the Administration Department. There are some qualified workers and some others who are not qualified. The studies that the workers need are Basic Grade of telecommunications, electricity or electronics. The workers have a working schedule from 8:00 to 13:30 and from 16:00 to 19:00, including thirty minutes in the morning for breakfast and thirty days of holidays. The enterprise follows the legal protocols for workers´ safety and they use specialized tools for the different types of works they do. For example, if they are doing something with high voltage, they use special gloves, but if they are in a roof, they use harness and ropes. Data Set They also have a collective agreement with the enterprise. They have a workplace risk prevention plan, in which there is a list of the works and the safety protocols they have to follow. The enterprise is divided into two parts: one is dedicated to Telecommunications and electrical installations and the other one is dedicated to Professional Sound and Illumination.

The clients Raplitec works for many people and it’s a competitive enterprise because it has good prices, and they do a good work: “giving quality, service, good price and good work”. The enterprise has clients from Campo de Criptana, but also from many others places of Spain, such as towns in Madrid, towns and cities of Castilla-La Mancha and some other places like Marbella. Most of the clients are other companies, but they also work for particulars. The company always works for the same clients normally. The new clients know the company because other people recommend it. That is the reason why they try to do a good work. The enterprise tries to get new clients, offering their services to other enterprises, builders and estate agents.

How they work The working process of this type of company is very complex. First they make an estimate budget with the plans of the place where they have to do the work, knowing how many things they have to install and including the time they think that they will need and the 18% of VAT that they have to charge. It’s very difficult to give a price with precision in the initial budget. After making the budget, if the client is satisfied with the conditions, they start the work. After a lot of problems and solutions for these problems they finish the work. Pipes and wires of the electrical installation

They work with other companies, which provide the company with materials they need, such as the tools, wires and other things.

Main Problems The main problems are to find work, to maintain the staff of the company and to do a professional work to earn money. If the clients don’t pay, you can only wait and don’t work more for them, but this doesn’t happen so much. Future perspectives Now it’s a good enterprise, but at the moment they are only thinking in present. They want to enlarge the company, so that the future generations of the family will have safe work for many years.
