Pannonia Reflections 2017 Photographs are mirrors and windows into life and art "There is a mirror that reflects the portrait of the artist, who created the photography, and there is a window through which we can see and understand the world around us in a better way." John Szarkovski (1925–2007), American curator, photographer and theoretician
The Photographic society Pannonia from Slovenia/Lendava has been successfully promoting and encouraging contemporary photographic creations with competitions and exhibitions under the title Pannonia Reflections, which were now organised for the fourth time in a row and are divided into 4 theme sections. The Pannonia Reflections competitions and exhibitions are organised annually under high patronage and in compliance with the rules of international photographic associations (Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique – FIAP and The Photographic Society of America – PSA) and the Slovenian national organisation Photographic Federation of Slovenia – FZS. This year’s exhibition carries the same value and enjoys the same reputation as any other Pannonia Reflections exhibition from previous years. They all carried a message of wider importance and were focused on aesthetic, narrative and conceptual values. Exhibitions give us the opportunity to see photographic achievements of broad creative expression and artistic creation with a camera, i.e. everything from realistic photographs captured in those “crucial moments” to all kinds of creative achieve2

ments that were created during different procedures, processes and authorial approaches while taking photos and also in the postproduction phase. In this catalogue we introduced all awarded photographs and even some of the received ones that didn’t win an award, but have definitely shown freshness, originality, innovativeness, skilful use of the camera and successful exploitation of its features, possessed a unique artistic expression and mastered the digital processing softwares, showed an indispensable feeling for the composition and layout of primary and secondary, expressed profound colour sensitivity and presented different tonal solutions. The success of this exhibition and the entire manifestation was affected by multiple factors; among them the high quality of the selected (accepted) and especially awarded photographs as well as the responsible, professional and excellent work of the Pannonia photographic association’s leadership, which took care of everything from preparing and carrying out the competition, taking care of the awards and prices, designing and printing the representative catalog of the exhibition and ensuring
high professionalism, enviable expertise and artistic culture of the members of the international jury. The exhibition testifies and talks about authors with a vision and talent, who constantly follow the impulses of life, time and movement in the field of art, especially in the field of photography, and create specific, special and resourceful photographic art. In conclusion I would just like to add that exhibitions, even though they unite different themes, authorial expressions and subjective approaches to the photographic medium, create an interesting and consistent whole. Photography are, just like the famous photographer and artist John Szarkovski determined a long time ago, “mirrors of life, reality and art and at the same time windows through which we can see and understand the world around us in a better way.” They are created in a way that corresponds with the time we live in and they were created in and they follow the rules and demands of their time.

Pannonia Reflections 2017 Fotografije kot ogledalo in okno v življenje in umetnost »Fotografija je ogledalo, ki odseva portret umetnika, ki je fotografijo ustvaril, in okno, skozi katerega lahko bolje vidimo in razumemo svet okoli nas.« John Szarkovski (1925—2007), ameriški kurator, fotograf in teoretik
Fotografsko društvo Pannonia iz Lendave z mednarodnimi fotografskimi razpisi in razstavami pod imenom Pannonia Reflec tions že četrto leto zapored zelo uspešno promovira in spodbuja sodobno fotografsko ustvarjanje. Razpisi in razstave, ki so razdeljene na 4 tematske enote se odvijajo vsako leto pod visokim patronatom in v skladu s pravili mednarodnih fotografskih združenj: Mednarodna zveza za fotografsko umetnost (Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique – FIAP), Fotografska zveza Združenih držav Amerike (The Photographic Society of America – PSA) in Nacionalno fotografsko združenje (Fotografska zveza Slovenije – FZS). Tudi ta razstava nosi enake vrednote in uživa enak ugled kot v preteklosti organizirane razstave Pannonia Reflections, ki so nosile in še nosijo sporočila širšega pomena ter se nanašajo na estetske, narativne in konceptualne vrednote. Na razstavah se srečujemo s fotografskimi dosežki velikega kreativnega izražanja in umetniških ustvarjanj s fotografsko kamero, to vključuje vse od realističnih fotografskih slik ustvarjenih v "odločilnem trenutku" do različnih ustvarjalnih dosežkov, ki so nastali z uporabo najrazličnejših postopkov, procesov in pristopov avtorjev
med samim fotografiranjem ali v postprodukciji. V tem katalogu smo predstavili vse nagrajene fotografije in nekaj sprejetih fotografij, ki sicer niso bile nagrajene, a kljub temu, tako kot nagrajene, izražajo svežino, izvirnost, inovativnost in spretno uporabo fotoaparata, uspešno izkoriščanje njegovih funkcij ter programske opreme za digitalno obdelavo, imajo osebni umetniški izraz, nepogrešljiv občutek za kompozicijo in postavitev primarnega in sekundarnega ter za prefinjeno barvno občutljivost in različne tonske rešitve. Na uspeh te razstave in celotne manifestacije je vplivalo več različnih dejavnikov, med njimi je treba še posebej izpostaviti visoko kakovost izbranih (sprejetih), predvsem pa nagrajenih fotografij, ter odgovorno, profesionalno in odlično delo vodstva Fotografskega društva Pannonia, ki vključuje vse od priprave in izvedbe tekmovanja do organizacije žirije, priprave razstave, podel jevanja nagrad in priznanj, oblikovanja in tiskanja reprezentativnega kataloga razstave ter visoke strokovnosti, zavidljivega strokovnega znanja in umetnostne kulture članov mednarodne žirije. Razstava govori in priča o avtorjih z vizijo in talentom, ki konstantno sledijo impulzom življenja in časa
ter gibanja v umetnosti, zlasti v fotografiji, ter ustvarjajo specifična, posebna in izvirna fotografska dela. Za konec bi rad še dodal, da razstava ustvari zanimivo in dosledno celoto, čeprav se fotografije, ki jih združuje na enem mestu lahko razlikujejo po tematskih enotah, imajo različen avtorski izraz in subjektivne pristope k fotografskemu mediju. Fotografije so, kot je to že davno ugotovil znameniti fotograf in umetnik John Szarkovski, v najlepšem smislu besede “ogledalo življenja, realnosti in umetnosti ter obenem okno, skozi katerega lahko bolje vidimo in razumemo svet okoli nas,” saj so ustvarjene na način, ki ustreza času, v katerem živimo in v katerem so bile ustvarjene, ter sledijo zahtevam svojega časa.

Istvan Kerekes was born in 1977 in Maros vásárhely. He lives in Mosonmagyaróvár – western Hungary. His pictures have been shown in more than 65 countries, on 6 continents, and he won over 1400 prizes and awards, in international and nati on al photo contests. From 2012 he takes part continuously in different international and national photo contests like jury member or like the president of the jury. MILJENKO MAROTTI EFIAP/p • Croatia
Miljenko Marotti was born on 27 February 1948 in Rijeka. He finished his studies and specialized in medicine at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. He became interested in photography as a student, but only later on, when he joined Fotoclub Zagreb in 2002, he seriously devoted himself to photography. That was also the time he started exhibiting his work. He is now known as one of Fotoclub Zagreb’s most successful members, who took a leading role in the expansionary development of artistic (exhibition, authorial, unconventional) photography. His 600 photographs have been accepted to the Salon of Photography under FIAP’s patronage 1700-times and so far he has received 85 awards for his amazing work.

Marotti was also honored with the Excellence FIAP Platinum title by the International Federation of Photographic Art (EFIAP/p) and the 1st order Master title by the Croatian Photographic Union. Besides, he is Fotoclub Zagreb’s most successful author and the winner of the “Tošo Dabac” prestigious award bestowed by Fotoclub Zagreb. Miljenko Marotti se je rodil 27. 2. 1948 leta v Reki. Končal in specializiral je medicino na Medicinski fakulteti v Zagrebu. S fotografijo se ukvarja od študentskih let, resneje pa se je fotografiji posvetil s prihodom v Fotoklub Zagreb leta 2002., ko je začel tudi aktivno razstavljati. Je eden najuspešnejših članov Fotokluba Zagreb in vodja ekspanzivnega razvoja umetniške ( razstavne, avtorske, nekonvencionalne) fotografije, med člani Fotokluba Zagreb. Na fotografskih salonih pod pokroviteljstvom FIAP-a in PSA je njegovih 600 fotografij sprejetih 1700 krat. Za svoje fotografije pa je prejel skupno 85 nagrad. Marotti se ponaša z nazivom platinasti odličnik Mednarodne zveze za fotografsko umetnost (EFIAP/p), Mojster I. reda Hrvaške Foto zveze. Je najuspešnejši avtor Fotokluba Zagreb in dobitnik prestižne nagrade »Tošo Dabac« Fotokluba Zagreb.

VINKO ŠEBREK AFIAP/ESFIAP • Croatia
Vinko Šebrek was born on 17 January 1941 in the village of Šebreki in Karlovac in Croatia. After finishing primary school in his native place he continued education at Industrial School in Karlovac (up to 1960). From Karlovac the path led him to study in the Military Air Force Academy in Zadar. After completing studies at the Military Aviation Academy (1965), he served as air officer of the various units and Air Force headquarters in many countries of the former Yugoslavia and Croatia (up to 2005).

With artistic photography deals for over 50 years (since 1958).At the beginning he was member of Photo Club Karlovac, then in other photographic organizations in different cities of the former Yugoslavia. From 1974 to 1984, he was president of Photo Cinema Club Brežice, 1997-2010 Photo Club Zagreb. At the heart of his creative professions is expressive and documentary photography of various motifs of urban and natural landscapes, architecture, “life” photos to portraits, nudes and abstract photography. His photography is exhibited in over 100 group exhibitions and on 85 juried international exhibitions artistic or expressive photography. He has prepared more than 40 individual photographic exhibitions Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, England, Indonesia, Austria, Romania and India. He deals with writing technical articles, impressions, views and expert reviews in the press, photographic newspapers, on websites and in catalogs of group and individual exhibitions. He participated in the writing and design of five monographs in the Photo Club Zagreb. For exceptional results in the organization of photographic societies and associations and other social activities is gripped several senior republican medals and various social recognition, plaques and praises. Divided him with
three artistic titles: MFFKZ – Master Photographer of Photo Club Zagreb (2008), AFIAP – Artiste Photographer of the International Federation of Photographic Art (2012) and ESFIAP -Excellence for Services Rendered to FIAP (2012). He is a member of the Executive Board in Photo Club Zagreb, the Executive Board of the Zagreb Photo and Cinema Federation, Croatian Photographic Union and FIAP-The International Federation of Photographic Art. He is an honorary member of the six photographic clubs in Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Romania and Honorary President of Photo Club Zagreb. Rodil se je 17. januarja 1941 v vasi Šebreki pri Karlovcu na Hrvaškem. Po končani osnovni šoli (1957) je nadaljeval izobraževanje na Industrijski šoli v Karlovcu (1960), od koder ga je pot vodila na Vojno letalsko akademijo v Zadar. Po končanem študiju (1965) je služboval kot letalski častnik v različnih enotah in poveljstvih vojnega letalstva tedanje skupne države Jugoslavije, od 1991. pa v Hrvaškem vojnem letalstvu. Upokojil se je leta 2005. Vinko Šebrek je fotografski samouk. Fotografirati je začel 1958. leta, razstavljati pa leto dni zatem, ko je postal član Foto Kluba Karlovac. Z izrazno fotografijo se ukvarja več kot petdset let. Začetki te njegove dejavnosti segajo v čas, ko se je pridružil fotografski sekciji Industrijske šole in Foto klubu Karlovac. Kasneje je bil aktiven član v več fotografskih klubih v različnih mestih, tako je bil v letih 1974 do 1984 predsednik Foto kino kluba Brežice, od 1997. do 2010. pa Foto kluba Zagreb. V središču njegovega kreativnega zanimanja je izrazna in dokumentarna fotografija različne

motivike – od urbane in naravne krajine, arhitekture, “life” fotografije do portretne in abstraktne fotografije ter akta. Razstavljal je na več kot 100 skupnih razstavah in na 85 žiriranih mednarodnih razstavah umetniške fotografije. Priredil je več kot 40 samostojnih avtorskih razstav fotografije v Sloveniji, na Hrvaškem, v Italiji, na Madžarskem, v Angliji, Indoneziji, Avstriji, Romuniji in Indiji. Ukvarja se s pisanjem strokovnih člankov, tudi s kritiko. V Fotoklubu Zagreb je sodeloval pri pisanju in oblikovanju šestih monografij. Za izjemne rezultate v fotografskih društvih in združenjih ter v drugih družbenih dejavnostih je prejel več visokih republiških odličij, številna društvena priznanja, plakete in pohvale. Podeljeni so mu umetniški naslovi: mojster fotografije Fotokluba Zagreb (MFFKZ –2008), umetnik fotografije Mednarodne federacije fotografske umetnosti (AFIAP– 2012) in odličnik za organizacijo v Mednarodni federaciji fotografskih umetnosti (ESFIAP– 2012). Sedaj je predsednik nadzornega odbora Fotokluba Zagreb, član izvršilnega odbora Zagrebške fotokino zveze ter član nadzornega odbora Hrvaške foto zveze. My love for photography was initiated through my travels overseas where I found great inte rest in exploring my surroundings through the lens of my first DSLR camera in 2014. 4 5
Inspired by many great photographers, I was encouraged to further develop my photography techniques. Aside from photography, my greatest passion is to travel to bewildered and mystifying places and countries where I can explore and capture the infinite beauty of traditional cultures and the untainted natural environment. Photography has certainly changed my life in the sense that it’s open my eyes and made me perceive the world around me differently. I am grateful for the support from the photography community and I would like to continue to share with you the precious moments captured through the eye of my camera.

BEST CLUB • NAJUSPEŠNEJŠI KLUB Shangtuf Image and Art Club from China Best Photo club/association of PANNONIA REFLECTIONS 2017 is Shangtuf Image and Art Club from China. 32 members of Shangtuf Image and Art Club participate in this year’s Pannonia Reflections and they have altogether 125 accepted photos. Taizhou Shangtuf Image and Art Development Co., Ltd is a certified micro-spraying Epson Studio. The Club collaborates with prestigious photographic societies, working as one of Federation of International Art Photography (FIAP) group members, Chapter of Royal Photographic Society (RPS), Coordinator of Global Photographic Union (GPU), and liaison office of New York Photographic Society in Zhejiang, China. It is a professional agency for international photography competitions, more importantly a platform for photographic art exchange with the rest of the world, introducing works of Chinese photography works to other countries as well as bringing photography works of the foreign photographers’ to Chinese photography lovers. With a team of professional exhibition planning and installation staff, Shangtuf provides one-stop service including curating, prints-making and installation for photography festivals at home and abroad, exhibition. In the organization of international competition, we give great importance to the exhibition. Pannonia Reflections exhibition of awarded and best-rated accepted photos are placed in Gallery Museum Lendava. We had an opening of Pannonia Reflections 2017 exhibition on 2 February 2018. We exhibited 70 awarded and 66 accepted photos. The exhibition is open until 3 March 2018.

Razstava je postavljena v prostorih Galerije Muzeja Lendava. Otvoritev razstave Pannonia Reflections 2017 je bila 2. februarja 2018. Razstavljenih je 70 nagrajenih in 66 sprejetih fotografij.
