PITTSBURGH (AP) — Shayla Scott converted a threepoint play and made two free throws during a decisive 14-0 run during the second half and No. 19 Pittsburgh overcame some sub-par shooting to beat Cincinnati 68-53. Shavonte Zellous and Xenia Stewart scored 16 points each for the Panthers (20-5, 10-3 in Big East), who assured themselves of a fourth consecutive 20-win season. Zellous made only 6 of 22 shots while being held seven points below her 23.0 average, but also had six rebounds and five assists. The Panthers withstood their 36.9 percent shooting (24 of 65) by holding a 43-26 advantage in rebounding. Pitt led 41-40 following Kahla Roudebush’s layup for Cincinnati (13-13, 3-10) with 14:10 remaining before outscoring the Bearcats 22-3 over the next nine minutes, a stretch that included the 14-0 run. Jill Stephens scored 17 points for Cincinnati.

MORGANTOWN, W.VA. (AP) — Shavonte Zellous scored 25 points, overcoming first-half foul trouble, to help No. 15 Pittsburgh beat West Virginia 72-60. The Panthers (21-5, 11-3 Big East) were down by 12 in the first half, but used a 44-point second half to win for the 10th time in their past 11 games. Zellous picked up her second foul with 12:18 remaining in the first half and was forced to sit for the next seven minutes as her team cut the deficit to eight. She returned with 5:19 left in the half and the Panthers went into the locker room up 28-27. Pitt started the second half with six consecutive points, but West Virginia (15-12, 3-10) wouldn’t go away as Takisha Granberry made a 3-pointer to halt Pitt’s momentum. With the Mountaineers leading by two, Zellous’ layup started a 12-0 run to seal the victory. Liz Repella scord 17 points and Granberry added 16 for West Virginia. Pitt ended the game on a 15-7 run to secure the victory and clinched at least a No. 3 seed for the Big East Tournament.

LOUISVILLE, KY. — Louisville senior Candyce Bingham had a career day in her last home game. She scored a career-best 26 points, making 10-of-12 free throws to help No. 8 Louisville beat Pittsburgh (No. 20 ESPN/ USA Today, No. 15 AP) to secure the second seed in the Big East tournament. Fellow senior Angel McCoughtry added 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Shavonte Zellous scored 15 and had six rebounds for the Panthers, and Sophronia Sallard scored 13. Sallard made one field goal, scoring two points, in the second half after making all five of her field goals in the first half. Though the Panthers had four players 6-3 or taller on their roster, compared to Louisville’s tallest player, 6-2 Keshia Hines, the Cardinals outscored them 44-18 in the paint and had 15 offensive rebounds. Hines had 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Cardinals never trailed and put the game away with a 15-point run in the second half, after the Panthers got within three. Pittsburgh couldn’t overcome its 25 turnovers. Louisville built a 20-9 lead in the first half before Pittsburgh rallied to cut the deficit to 24-20 on a 3-pointer by Zellous. Louisville extended the lead to six at the half. The Panthers closed to 39-36 and was down 47-42 before Louisville took over scoring the next 15 points — including six by Bingham. McCoughtry’s 3-pointer, her last shot in Freedom Hall as a Cardinal, gave the Cardinals a 73-47 advantage for its biggest lead of the game.
