Head coach Agnus Berenato’s legend in the city of Pittsburgh is growing. The things she has accomplished on the court in her short time in the Steel City are overshadowed only by her involvement in the community. In the spring of 2008, Berenato was honored as Southwestern Pennsylvania’s 2007 Dapper Dan Sportswoman of the Year for the second time in three years. Berenato joined WNBA star Swin Cash as a two-time award winner of the prestigious award, which recognizes athletic achievement and community service.

Former Pitt All-America guard Shavonte Zellous was honored as the 2008 Dapper Dan Sportswoman of the Year. As a winner of the highest honors in Pittsburgh sports, Zellous joined Steelers’ coach and Dapper Dan Sportsman of the Year, Mike Tomlin.

In the fall of 2007, Berenato joined then-senior Marcedes Walker as honorees for the Women and Girls Foundation as women in the area who have helped to level the playing field and are successful contributors to society. Walker accepted her award from incoming Pitt freshman Shawnice “Pepper” Wilson.
