Dear Parents, We are such a busy school community and one full of heart, rigour and passion; this is illustrated in yet another bumper issue of the Bi-Weekly for you to consume and enjoy. I have just attended the Teraja Assembly, led by P7, focusing on the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Global Goals. It was creative, insightful, thought provoking and very entertaining (air guitars were involved!). They highlighted that we are effectively at 'half time' in our collective aim to achieve the goals by 2030 and although great strides have been made in many of the goals, we are only 'on track' in 15% of them. When I look at what the P7 ambassadors put together in their assembly, along with the super initiatives of our other students across the school, it makes me wonder what % we would have achieved if they had been in charge of governments, NGOs/INGOs and multinational companies across the globe! I also attended the start of the Rampayoh Assembly this morning. The theme was respect and communication. P3 performed a beautiful song with such precision and joy, remembering all of the words. They were fabulous and the audience (P1 and P2) were equally fabulous, showing their respect and appreciation. This was similar to the cross country event last Friday where I was so impressed by our students supporting all of the competitors from not only Panaga, but also our friends from Hornbill, ISB and JIS. The competitors were equally impressive, helping each other to complete the course and interacting with the supporters and showing their appreciation. As we approach the end of half term, there are lots of events happening on next week, including various IC exit points, the last leg of the 'Big Pedal' (we are nearly at our target), Parent Meeting re: transition to JIS management ( Please RSVP with details of who will be attending, coupled with any questions that would like addressed, by Monday 16th October to: koomeeyin@panagaschool.net), and our Breast Cancer Awareness Morning (please refer to slide 4 for specific dates). Thank you to all of our Parent Reps who are doing a great job in helping to keep everyone connected and our PTA, who have great plans for the year ahead - thank you to Maree, Kamila and our new Secretary, Kerry, in advance of all of the wonderful activities and events planned for the upcoming year.

I am delighted to let the community know that Sarah Hutson, our Music Teacher, has been discharged from hospital and is now at home. Sarah and her husband, Gianfranco are very grateful for all of the support. Sarah is recovering at home and she, with medical advice, will let us know when she is able to see visitors. I would like to thank our teachers who have been covering a variety of staff absences this half term, especially Ms. Karachi, who has been taking many of the music lessons. We have updated the school's exclusion periods for infectious conditions policy and you will see this on slide 5. I do know there are a few 'bugs' and colds going around at the moment, so please refer to the policy and if you are unsure, contact your class teacher or Deputy Principal for further advice. As you will know, we will be on half term break at the end of next week and will be returning to school on Monday 30th October when the highlight will undoubtedly be the Diwali celebrations and assembly at the end of that week. Have a lovely, safe and relaxing weekend.

Brian, SLT and all of our staff.

P2 Proboscis Monkey Class In P2, our IPC unit is ‘Who Am I?’. As part of our International learning, we have been comparing similarities and differences between the lives of children from different countries. In our class, we have many different nationalities, so we paired up and asked each other questions. What food do you like to eat?

Where do you come from?

Which countries have you travelled to? What languages do you speak?

What is your religion?

We both speak English.

Thank you parents for your continuous support. Let’s always work together to keep everyone safe! Wear a bicycle helmet while cycling

Stop, Look & Listen before crossing the road

Walk on the pedestrian crossings with an adult

Walk instead of running on the concrete path

Put on your seatbelt

Put on a hat in the sun

Hold the blade down when holding scissors

Kind Hands (NO pushing & hitting)

Once upon a time there was a child named The Biggest Best Riding Hood Ever. Well, Bigg for short. Bigg was asked to take a picnic lunch to Grandmother’s house. Now, Bigg was a little bit nervous … do we know what nervous means?

She was nervous for good reasons. It seems that Bigg had heard some other Panaga children talking about a BIG BAD WOLF, who’d been seen, right in Panaga! YIKES! I would be scared too. But you know, Bigg knew how to stay safe because she had just been to the SAFETY ASSEMBLY at Rampayoh!

YEAR 1 DRAMA GUIDED IMAGERY

Bigg had strong open eyes to see if anything looked like a wolf.

Bigg had a nose that could smell anything fishy going on

Bigg had strong ears to hear the wolf if he came close.

Bigg had a voice that could say “NO” bigger and louder than anyone else in town.

Scan the QR Codes for short clips…

When Bigg put all these body parts together, it was the BIGGEST, even bigger than the Big Bad Wolf! Well, if there was a wolf, he sure didn’t stay in town, because he heard just how big, Bigg was! The Biggest! So, Bigg felt safe to walk to Grandma’s house. They enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch and that made Bigg feel like the BEST! The End!!!

The children in P5 have been learning about the life of Ibn Battuta . To showcase their new knowledge, the children re-created recount of Ibn Battuta’s travels known as The Rihla. To achieve an authentic old parchment look, the children presented their learning on tea-stained paper.

Mark Rothko inspired creations

We selected colours which meant something to us and using pastels created blocks of colour to express ourselves.

Creating our own abstract ‘Rothko” using the colours of the jungle as our stimulus.

We mixed various shades of green using blue and yellow acrylic paints. We added movement and texture by manipulating the paint with tools once on our canvas.
