Summer Art Camp sessions take place in PAFA’s Historic Cast Hall studios from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for one week sessions. The daily schedule includes a morning session, light snack, lunch in Lenfest Plaza (brought by each camper), and an afternoon session. Drop off is from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. each day. After-camp sessions are available for an additional fee from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. Campers prepare an art show every Friday for family and friends at 2 p.m. Highly skilled instructors and assistance, safe and welcoming environment and art making of all kinds!

DUCK DUCK GOOSE Learn about shape, line, and texture with projects and games all about birds. Construct nests, create mobiles - the sky is the limit.

STAR WARS Calling all Jedi knights to make space ships, androids, masks, and light sabers. Create your own new characters, and may the arts be with you.

COMIC BOOK DRAWING What inspires your character? Learn storytelling, build drawing skills, and host a Comic Con.

MOVE IT Campers will create art that moves, from pinwheels and wind socks to kites and dream-catchers. Some wiggling and dancing is also required.

COCO Inspired by Disney Pixar’s Coco, learn about Mexican folk art traditions, make masks, design tin milagros, and more.

INTRO TO DRAWING Learn drafting techniques with graphite, charcoal, and pastels to hone your abilities in texture and shading. Build basic skills in still-life and figure drawing.

PAINTING Try your hand with acrylics, watercolors, and tempera. Study color theory, brush tricks, and perspective to take your art to the next level. DRAWING I Perfect your drawing technique by focusing on light, contour and texture. Projects will highlight figure drawing in more depth. Use PAFA’s collection to build confidence in your own unique style.

BUILD YOUR PORTFOLIO

Use charcoal, acrylics, and even smartphones to deepen your foundational art skills. Experiment with painting, portraiture, and drawing using the historic Cast Hall collection.

JULY 9 - 13

CARIBBEAN PARADISE Learn about the tropical islands around Central America and make art about pirates, animals and the natural world. This camp is taught in both Spanish and English.

HEROES BIG AND SMALL There is a hero in all of us! Listen to myths and legends, protect yourself by making colorful masks and shields, and create your own hero buddy.

A WRINKLE IN TIME Based on the book and film, see what fun things you discover while exploring space and constellations through glow-in-thedark materials.

SUPERHEROES What makes a superhero? How can you express those qualities visually? Explore your ideas using clay, pen and ink, and more.

JULY 16 - 20

FOLK ART TRADITIONS Learn weaving, mask making, and more as we take an imaginary adventure to South America. This camp is taught in both Spanish and English.

ENCHANTED FOREST Here ye, here ye, all the brave knights and fair maidens! Make mesmerizing and magical works of art that capture the spirit of far-off fairy tales.

INTRO TO COMIC BOOKS Want to shazam your comic book making skills? Design an eye-catching comic book cover and learn to create your own heroes and villains.

PRINTMAKING Experiment with screenprinting, block printing and monoprinting to create posters, t-shirts and more.

STORIES OF LATIN AMERICA

OPPOSITES Big vs. small, wet vs. dry, smooth vs. rough - learn about art making through opposites. Embrace the fun of clean vs. messy too!

TREASURE HUNTERS Calling all geo-cashers! Spot treasure in PAFA’s collection, create a scavenger hunt with illustrated clues, and make a treasure chest.

INTRO TO PAINTING Learn the fundamental techniques for acrylic, tempera and watercolor painting. Create your own masterpieces, from traditional still-lifes to modern abstracts.

JULY 30 AUGUST 3

COLOR CHEMISTRY Become a mad scientist creating a rainbow of slimes, dyes, and experimental paintings. Invent and play with unique materials.

MONSTER MASH One eye, three noses and five ears! Create monsters using different materials such as paper, felt, and even rocks.

2D ANIMATION Use PAFA’s

digital lab to discover how to add motion to your graphic art to create an animated short movie. Plan a story with other campers and screen your film for friends and family.

Learn methods to digitize drawings, paintings and prints. Discover lighting and staging techniques and spend time experimenting with Photoshop to enhance your editing skills.

AUGUST 6 - 10

MAGIC ACADEMY Cast a spell of wonder with the art of magic. Construct wands, mix magic potions, and learn how to make images appear and disappear.

GREEN SCREEN MOVIES Create a movie inspired by a great story and the magical settings only a green screen technique can inspire.

VIDEO PRODUCTION Learn how to make your own media production through storyboarding, filming and editing a digital short film.

ILLUSTRATION Show, don’t tell. Use images to express your idea with character design, setting and mood. From movie posters to graphic novels, invent a unique visual narrative.

JULY 23 - 27

Take inspiration from the best new children’s books and make art inspired by the characters, traditions and countries they come from. This camp is taught in both Spanish and English.

GRAPHIC NOVEL

Learn layout styles, differentiate your lines and discover techniques to convey more emotion in your graphic illustrations.

DRAWING II Learn to build your observational skills and master techniques such as perspective, shading and value using charcoal, ink and graphite.
