FOUNDATION

Dear Parents, Although KHDA has not changed our rating overall but it should be clearly noted that there are a large number of indicators that have improved during this academic year. There is a very strong consolidation of ‘Good’ through improvement of ‘Very Good’ in many features., notably in Phase 3 and 4 we are strongly Very Good in most areas. In fact, we were very close to an overall Good and will surely achieve it in the coming year with all your support. This achievement would not have been possible without our marvellous students, committed staff, creative leaders and supportive parents. This is success of our partnership and we would continue to strengthen it further. One of the core values of our school is compassion and it really means sensitivity to others suffering. A person cannot be compassionate unless he/she is sensitive to others suffering. And this suffering includes, not only human beings but also animals and plants. To develop compassion in our young students, we provide an enabling environment, careful nurturing, and a spring board for meaningful opportunities to promote and practice. We also place high priority on ensuring that our students are sensitive to the needs of the community and inculcate values like integrity, fortitude and tolerance of individual differences along with compassion. Compassion is equally extolled in all religions of the world and Ramadan is a month focussed on the practice of compassion. While fasting, we are expected to be kind, helpful and promote happiness through sharing and giving. The Oxford School is a perfect example of a community based on sharing of ideas, experience and good practices, which we are proud to be part of. Looking forward to an even more rewarding year in 2018-2019 in terms of learning, success and achievement, Eid Mubarak!

FS GRADUATION CEREMONY Certain ceremonies are celebrated with a difference and one such ceremony is the FS Graduation, where tiny tots celebrate their success and prepare for their upcoming journey; the next school year. The significance not only surrounds the child’s all-round journey in the FS, but also showcases the tireless efforts of the teachers in nurturing and grooming of these tiny tots. For our little FS Graduates... It was indeed an important day, marking their first accomplishment. Smiles and excitement could be seen on their sweet innocent faces as they were all ready to graduate!

DISCOVER and EXPLORE : Cooking With Kids ‘Fruit – Salad Making’ Activity We recently spent a morning exploring different types of fruits. What we learned is that cooking in the classroom is about so much more than just measuring, slicing, and pouring. It can be a multi-sensory experience… We moved to our larger tables and each child had the opportunity to wash and cut the fruits that we had explored. Some of our fruits required big knives, which only Teachers could use. The children were given plastic knives to cut the fruits into smaller, bitesized pieces… Our children loved the opportunity to create their own snack.

MATH ACTIVITY… Exploring Tens and Ones… Manipulatives are the key to teaching kids to count by tens and ones. It gives students a good learning experience when they physically group items by tens and ones. At Oxford, we allow children to explore using manipulatives…here they are busy exploring numbers…as they learn about tens and ones. They explored twodigit numbers…. and how they are composed of tens and ones.

SANDWICH MAKING‌ Students were excited and thrilled to start the sandwich making activity which was part of our dry cooking activity. They were provided the opportunity to explore and experiment in different ways. They used tools independently to make their own sandwich. They were very happy and had a sense of achievement when they finished making their yummy sandwiches. The sense of independence made them feel like delightful little chefs!

MORE ABOUT COMMUNITY HELPERS As we were learning about community helpers and importance of them in our everyday life; we had the pleasure of welcoming one of our parents from FS 2F who contributed ideas about the services that community helpers provide. VISIT TO EXPO 2020 Multiple expos have been conducted in the history of mankind over time to showcase innovations that changed the ways of human life. Innovations such as the telephone, television, braille, and The Ferris wheel, etc. are some of the many bright innovations exhibited at expos in the past. Dubai plans to hold the next greatest expo that is yet to leave everyone at awe. I and some of my acquaintances from school were given the chance to explore the grounds in the making of Dubai Expo 2020. We were told that it would be a great experience, but to have seen the outline of Expo before it has been made was more than just a great experience. Guided by marvellous people, we were first taken to the site office, where the planning and working of the project takes place. Our guide presented and enlightened us on the topic of how this project was brought into making together with other informative details. We discovered the story behind the logo of Dubai Expo and how its slogan, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, acts as a motivation not only to onlookers waiting for a chance but also to the people who are working extremely hard for the awaiting success of the Expo. After the creative introduction, our guide then informed us that we would be going on a bus tour to explore the site of the Expo. The Expo will consist of multiple pavilions and districts, the three major and significant ones being, the Opportunity District, the Mobility District, and the Sustainability District. The bus took us around the whole site while our guide was indicating where each pavilion would be located. The foundations for most of the infrastructure were complete, implying that we are not very far from the completion of the project. Expo would also contain a UAE Pavilion as well as different pavilions of 180 countries who agreed to showcase their culture in the land of UAE. We also found out that Expo 2020 has multiple community partners such as DEWA and RTA who are positively contributing and supporting this project, in this case, for the power supply and transportation. After traversing our way around the site, we were then brought back to the site office where we had a discussion over multiple topics surrounding Dubai Expo 2020. Our guide wrote out a few questions and topics that would act as a feedback for greater improvement and development. The discussion was interactive and highly influential. Some of us had an interview with one of the guides which was very interesting. The questions asked to us were very engaging and a mutual viewpoint was held in all aspects marking a connection between Expo and us. By the time we knew it, our visit had come to an end. Although this trip might have been exhausting, we were so immersed into it that such things felt insignificant. I learned a lot of newer things about Expo 2020 that I had very little knowledge of before visiting it. This experience also made me respect UAE even more after coming to know that it is a country of connection and interaction that appreciates all other countries and cultures just like its own. It also gives new opportunities to people with unique ideas and innovations. Indeed, it felt extremely wonderful to have visited Expo 2020 before it becomes the talk of the world. When time comes, it would be memorable to recall being one of the first to have stepped into Dubai Expo.

CONNECTING MINDS, CREATING THE FUTURE The Dubai Vision Competition 2018 focuses on the partnership between public and private schools enforcing the theme of Dubai Expo 2020: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.
