Morning Presentation – Special Guest: Amanda Simpson Rose Hills – Smith Campus Center

Amanda Simpson is the Senior Technical Adviser to the Department of Commerce, appointed by the Obama Administration. She is the first trans-woman and second transgender political appointee in any administration. Simpson works in the Bureau of Industry and Security. Simpson received her MBA from the University of Arizona in 2001, her Master of Science in Engineering from the California State University, Northridge in 1988 and her Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Harvey Mudd College in 1983.

Lunch with Special Guest Neil Giuliano Edmunds – Smith Campus Center Neil Giuliano currently oversees all San Francisco AIDS Foundation efforts, including HIV prevention, testing and care programs and services, advocacy, research, finance and operations, development and communications. Before joining the foundation, Neil served as president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and executive producer of GLAAD Media Awards. At GLAAD, he expanded the organization’s media advocacy and anti-defamation work to include religious and faith-based communities, sports and advertising. In 1994, Neil became the youngest person ever elected mayor of Tempe, Arizona, a post he held for a decade. For six of those years, Tempe (population 175,000), was the largest city in America with an openly gay mayor. Previously, Neil held numerous senior roles at Arizona State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s in higher education administration, both from Arizona State University.

Student Track: Getting OUT there: From job search to interview With representatives from Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, OUT for Work Edmunds – Smith Campus Center This presentation will walk you through each step of the hiring


process. Learn how to find an LGBTQ friendly employer, advice on including queer specific content on your resume writing, and whether or not to be “out” at the interview. Partner & Career Center Track: Benefits of LGBTQ Career Center Certification Program The Career Center Certification Program (CCCP) is the first universitybased program designed to assess the quality, quantity & availability of materials for LGBTQ students and provide academic institutions and students with an evaluation of the support available to LGBTQ students facing employment and workplace challenges on college campuses. Career center professionals, learn how to become a certified school, the benefits of being involved in the program, and how to increase the number and level of resources being provided on your campus. Representatives from organizations, learn how to use the CCCP to build relationships and recruit LGBTQ talent. SCC 208 Breakout Sessions 2:30pm – 3:20pm (Choose 1)

TRANSitioning to the workplace As gender identity gains visibility, the importance of bringing your "whole self" to the workplace is becoming increasingly important and accepted. In this session, learn about and discuss those specific challenges individuals who identify as transgender and gender fluid when transitioning from academia to the workplace. Edmunds – Smith Campus Center OUTLaw This session will review current laws facing LGBTQ workplace discrimination. Session will provide an opportunity to ask questions regarding what one should do if they feel discriminated against at work. SCC 217
