Recruitment: The period of time at the beginning of each semester when sororities and fraternities recruit new members. Repeating courses: You may repeat any course as many times as necessary to earn a higher grade. The last grade earned is the official grade, even though all grades earned will appear on the transcript and will be calculated into the overall GPA. Required courses: Courses that must be taken in order to graduate. Residence hall: Campus housing. southeastern.edu/liveoncampus. Resigning from the university: When you find it necessary to discontinue your university work at any time other than at the end of a semester, you must complete a Resignation Form and clear all of your university accounts. If you quit going to class without officially resigning, you will receive the grade of F for each class. Roomie: Southeastern’s lion mascot. Scantron forms: A computer graded test answer sheet. Many professors use this form for their tests. Scantron forms may be purchased in the Bookstore or are free in the SGA office.

Special Program for Adults: A division of Extended Studies for persons wishing to pursue credit courses without meeting full admission requirements. Since this is a non-degree program, you may eventually want to transfer into a degree program but, at that time, you must meet all regular admission requirements. See the catalogue for further details. Spring Break: At Southeastern this usually occurs during the Easter holidays. Southeastern 101 (SE): Your freshman academic success begins with Southeastern 101, a 2 credit hour student success course providing the tools that address the rigors of academic life on the university level. Sophomore: Any student who has earned at least 30 semester hours of credit but less than 60 credit hours. Sorority: Women’s student organization formed to serve the university and the community and to promote social and intellectual advancement among its members. There are nine sororities on Southeastern’s campus.

Semester grade point average: The grade point average or GPA of all coursework of a certain semester.

Strawberry Jubilee: A spring festival of red beans and rice, fresh Louisiana strawberries, strawberry cake, music and fun for all students.

Senior: Any student who has earned 90 or more semester credit hours.

Student body: The entire student population. Student Data Sheet: The computer generated form that you receive during Orientation that includes your ACT scores. The Student Data Sheet is used for advising and placement information. Student ID number: Your university ID number; must be used on all forms and applications.

Southeastern Ring

The Lion’s Roar: The school newspaper. Anyone with newspaper experience either at the high school or college level is encouraged to apply to join the staff. Transcript: The official record of all of your academic progress at Southeastern. Transcripts are kept on file at Enrollment Services, North Campus Main Building, room 113. Transfer student: Any student who has earned college credit at another college or university and is enrolling at Southeastern for the first time. Upperclassmen: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Zoned parking: To avoid receiving parking citations be sure to consult the University Police parking map and park your vehicle in the proper location. Avoid the red zones; these are faculty and staff parking areas.
