Osprey launch new imprint – Osprey Adventures Osprey Publishing, the Oxford-based military history publisher, has announced plans to launch a new imprint called Osprey Adventures. This imprint has been designed to apply Osprey’s signature style to subjects outside of the traditional military niche, focusing in particular on the blurred lines where fact and fiction meet. Joseph McCullough, project manager for the Osprey Adventures imprint, commented: ‘Thanks to our close relationship with our customers, we’ve learned that a large proportion of Osprey’s military history readers are also fans of science fiction and fantasy. Furthermore, many of the hobbies with which Osprey books are traditionally associated also encompass more fantastical subjects. By creating new products that cater to these interests, Osprey will continue to serve many of its core readers with their broad interests, while also expanding its reach into a new consumer demographic.’ Myths and Legends, the first series to launch under the Osprey Adventures label, arrives in bookshops in late March. Each title in this series examines a specific legendary figure, such as King Arthur or Robin Hood, or a collection of myths – dragonslayers, for example – and presents their stories in a straightforward, entertaining style. Running alongside the narrative is information about the facts behind the stories and how these legends have developed and changed over time – all presented in Osprey’s usual highly illustrated format, complete with specially commissioned artwork. A second series, Dark Osprey, explores the shadowy worlds of fantasy, horror, secret societies and conspiracy theories. Ranging from zombies and werewolves, through the Nazi occult programs, alien invasions and paranormal investigations, the series is illustrated with Osprey-style artwork and reveals the full story behind many of the world’s darkest secrets. Dark Osprey launches in June. A third project – wholly digital – is due to be announced shortly.
