ROCHESTER, Mich.-Oral Roberts hit 11 3-pointers and scored a season-high 89 points as they beat Oakland 89-80 inside the Athletics Center O’rena Tuesday night. It was the first win for ORU (12-4, 4-0) against Oakland (8-9, 2-3) since January 10, 2009 and the first win in Rochester since the previous year, January 12, 2008. The victory also snapped Oakland’s 31-game home conference win streak. For the first time this season, ORU had five players finish in double-figures as ORU topped 80-points for the first time this year. The Golden Eagles shot 77.8 percent in the second half, hitting 21-of -27 shots to finish the game at 66.7 percent for the game. It was the highest field goal percentage on record since hitting 69.3 percent (45-65) against Butler on January 20, 1984. ORU has now shot at least 50 percent from the field in six of the last seven halves of play. Of the five Golden Eagles in double figures, four had at least 16 points with Dominique Morrison leading the way with his fourth consecutive 20-point game. Roderick Pearson hit all six free throws and scoring 17 points to go with his eight assists, giving him 20 assists in the last two games. Warren Niles and Steven Roundtree each missed just two shots on the night, scoring 16 points. Michael Craion added 10 points and a teamhigh three blocks as ORU tied the season-high with nine blocks in the game. “It was a great win,” said Coach Scott Sutton.“It was a great win for our program and a great win for our team considering we’ve been on the road eight-straight days and played three games in a row on the road. To come out with the energy that we did I think was pretty impressive.” For Oakland it was Reggie Hamilton who led the way with 28 points, scoring 26 of those in the second half. The Grizzlies shot 45.6 percent for the game and had 11 steals on 18 ORU turnovers. Travis Bader (16), Drew Valentine (14) and Corey Petros (10) also scored double-digits for OU. ORU hit seven of the first eight shots of the second half to extend the lead to 19 midway through the second half. An 8-of-8 mark from 3-point range to start the second half also helped ORU continue to put distance between them and Oakland, leading 63-44 after back-to-back Mikey Manghum threes.

TULSA, Okla.-Despite a 67 percent effort from the floor by North Dakota State, it was Oral Roberts who was victorious Thursday night at the Mabee Center, taking advantage of NDSU turnovers and using offensive rebounds for the 89-80 victory. ORU (13-4, 5-0) had a 22-10 advantage in points off turnovers and a 23-4 advantage in second-chance points, which helped them hold off a second-half charge by NDSU (10-4, 3-2), who shot 78.3 percent (18-23) in the second half. Damen Bell-Holter’s fourth double-double of the year spurred ORU, as he scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Dominique Morrison had 24 points—his fifth-straight 20-point effort—while Michael Craion added 14 points and Warren Niles added a pair of three’s and 12 points. Roderick Pearson had a team-high three steals and seven assists. Taylor Braun led all scorers with 25 points, including 15 of his team’s first 29 points. Alexander Lawrence converted 7-of-9 trips to the free throw line and had 16 points, while TrayVonn Wright (12) and Marshall Bjorklund (10) also hit double-figures in scoring, each also tallying a teamhigh six rebounds. With the victory, ORU has the best record to start the season since 2004-05, when the Golden Eagles started out 15-4. ORU has now scored 89 points in each of the last two games and has shot 50 percent or better for the game—51.7 percent tonight—in each of the last three games. “If you enjoy college basketball that was a great game to watch,” said Coach Scott Sutton. “That was a crazy, crazy game. I’ve been around the game all my life and I’m not sure I have seen anything like it. At one point they had hit 16 of their 18 shots and had only out-scored us by two points in the second half. When you let a team shoot like that you think you are getting blown out. Offensively, I thought we were really good.We took care of the basketball, we got the ball inside and we made shots.”

TULSA, Okla.-Behind Dominique Morrison’s career-high 38 points, Oral Roberts (14-4, 6-0) was able to run away with a 97-75 victory over South Dakota State (13-5, 5-1), Saturday night in front of 3,725 fans inside the Mabee Center. The only two remaining unbeatens in the Summit League, ORU handed the Jackrabbits their first conference loss, doing so with the largest margin of victory in a conference game since beating Centenary by 31 (87-56) on January 23, 2010. The 97 points scored by ORU was a season high, marking the first time this year in which they have scored more than 90 points. Morrison led all scorers with 38 points, going 5-of-8 from the 3-point line and 11-for-15 overall. He also converted all 11 trips to the free throw line and had seven rebounds. Steven Roundtree had 17 points and seven rebounds, while Warren Niles and Michael Craion each added 15 points. Nate Wolters, who entered the game fifth nationally in scoring at 22.8 points per game for SDSU, was right on his mark with 22, only eight of which came in the second half. Tony Fiegen added 11 points and Jordan Dykstra, Griffan Callahan and Chad White each had 10 for the Jackrabbits. The Golden Eagles held a 31-21 advantage on the glass, and dominated the points in the paint (40-22), points off turnovers (16-6) and secondchance points (12-3). ORU turned the ball over just six times, and not once in the second half, while notching seven steals on 10 SDSU turnovers. ORU continued its streak of hitting more than half their shots, shooting 60 percent for the game—67.7 percent (21-31) in the second half—and hit 10 of 21three-point attempts, the third time in four games they have hit at least 10 treys. “The game is a lot easier when you make 3-pointers and we’ve done that the last four games,” said Coach Scott Sutton. “This stretch of games we just had with five games in 11 days, three on the road, and to be able to come back and play against two excellent teams on Thursday night (NDSU) and Saturday night (SDSU), and have the energy to play and shoot the ball, our strength coach Adam Hermann deserves a lot of credit for that.”
