TULSA, Okla.-A 21-2 run in the second half distanced ORU from Austin Peay in the home opener for the Golden Eagles. ORU (2-2) won its second game in a row, ad took a 3-2 series lead over APSU (0-3) with the victory. Steven Roundtree was just three points off his career high with 24 points to lead ORU, with 19 of those points coming in the second half. Michael Craion had his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Roderick Pearson had his first double-figure scoring effort of the year with 11 points. Dominique Morrison added 10. Warren Niles and Craion each had three assists, while Craion added a team-high four steals. Leading by just one at halftime, ORU used a 52 percent shooting clip in the second half and a defensive effort that held APSU to 33 percent in the second half, to outscore the Governors 42-31. The ORU defense also held an opponent to less than 60 points for the second consecutive game after giving up 78 in each of the first two games. APSU was led by Tyshwan Edmondson with 14 points. Will Triggs (11 points) and Josh Terry (10 points) also hit double figures for the Governors. ORU continued to get open looks from three, with nine of the first 11 points coming from beyond the arc, with the other two coming on the rebound from a missed three. Despite shooting just 25 percent to start the game, ORU took its first lead of the game 15-14 with 9:10 left in the first half on another second-chance opportunity for Craion. The remainder of the first half went back and forth with five lead changes and three ties, but ended with ORU on top 29-28 after eight points, six rebounds from Craion. Down four in the second half, the Golden Eagles rattled off ninestraight points to take a five point lead (50-45), forcing APSU to call a timeout. The timeout could not stop the ORU momentum though, and a pair of three-point plays by Morrison and Roundtree pushed the lead out to 11, the largest lead by either team at the time. In all, it was a 21-2 run for ORU, stretching over nearly seven minutes giving ORU a 59-45 lead over the Governors.

TULSA, Okla-Behind Dominique Morrison’s 30 points, ORU (3-2) built a 17 point lead in the first half, but had to hold off a second-half run by SMU (2-3) to earn a 63-56 victory, Monday night in the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Tip-Off. With Morrison’s offensive explosion, ORU’s streak of six consecutive games with three players in double figures came to an end as only he and Steven Roundtree (11 points) hit the mark. It was the first 30-point game by a Golden Eagle this year, and the fourth of his career. The mark also pushed Morrison over the 1,500 point mark for his career (1,503), moving him into ninth all-time, just three points off the total held by Haywoode Workman (1,506). Craion had eight points and nine rebounds, the most important of which came with about a minute left as his put back made it a four point game and forced SMU to resort to fouling. SMU was led by Robert Nyakundi, who scored 16 points, all of which came in the second half. “We had a great opportunity in that first half, up 17, to really end the game,” said Coach Scott Sutton.“Even being up 13, I would have taken that before the game, and again we talked about that first five minutes in the second half going out and establishing ourselves and we didn’t do that. SMU battled hard and Matt (Doherty) did a great job and we were fortunate to come away with a win.” Morrison single-handedly gave ORU the early lead, scoring 13 of the team’s 15 points, putting the Golden Eagles in front 15-7 midway through the first half. He continued to stay hot for the first half, hitting 8 of 9 shots with his only miss coming from half court at the buzzer. With 20 points in the half, Morrison was the only scorer in double figures and led the Golden Eagles to a 30-17 lead at halftime, with ORU closing the half on a 13-3 run. The 17 points given up in the first half was the second-lowest total for an ORU opponent, giving up just 15 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 36-point victory. SMU would continue to chip away and eventually tie the game at 4545 after another Nyakundi 3-pointer, with SMU shooting upwards of 78 percent for the half at the time. Still a close game, Craion’s tip-in with just over a minute to go made it a four point game (55-51), and from there ORU was able to ice the game at the free throw line, hitting seven free throws in the final minute to hold off the charge and take the six-point victory. It was the third victory in a row for ORU, and the second-straight win at home.

TULSA, Okla.-The Oral Roberts men’s basketball team swept through the consolation bracket of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Tip-Off with a 7365 victory over Florida International on Tuesday night. The victory was the fourth in a row for ORU (4-2) who begins the season with a 4-2 record for the first time since 2007-08. Michael Craion led the way for ORU, who shot better than 50 percent from the field (2749) for the third time this season. Craion had 19 points and a eight rebounds, leading the Golden Eagles in both categories. In the 100th start of his career, Dominique Morrison had 13 points, and with his fourth point of the night passed Haywoode Workman (1986-89) for eighth place in the ORU record books, surpassing his total of 1,506 points. Morrison now has 1,516 career points. Mikey Manghum led the team with five assists as the Golden Eagles had a season-best 19 assists in the game. Phil Taylor hit a couple of big threes late in the game and led FIU with 22 points as the Panthers tried to make a comeback. FIU also outrebounded ORU marking the first time this season that ORU has been outrebounded by its opponent. One night after Morrison had the hot hand and scored a season-high 30 points, it was Jake Lliteras who was feeling it on Tuesday, hitting all four of his 3-point attempts for 12 points, the first double-digit output of his young career. His final two were perhaps the biggest of the game, taking a one point ORU lead and expanding it to seven after back-to-back threes. “It felt alright,” said Lliteras. “The most important thing is that we got a win. It felt good to shoot well, but it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t win the game.” Coach Scott Sutton had this to say about his redshirt freshman: “I was awfully proud of Jake. He works extremely hard on his shot and is very passionate about this game and it’s always good to see hard work pay off. He hit some big shots. I think he hit a couple in the first half that extended our lead and those two in the second half were probably the biggest of the game. They had all the momentum and he stepped up and hit back-toback shots for us.”
