Book and Lyrics by Judith Viorst | Music by Shelly Markham

Alexander is having a bad day. A terrible day. A horrible day. To be quite honest, it’s a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. But then, everybody has bad days, sometimes. In this delightful adaptation of her popular book, Judith Viorst sets Alexander’s rather trying life to music and brings to the stage one of America’s feistiest characters. Alexander’s struggles with life’s daily dramas will not only entertain, but educate young audiences as they identify with Alexander and the obstacles he encounters, encouraging them to share their feelings and to realize that bad days happen to everyone.

Magic Tree House Alive

Recommended: 2nd - 4th Grade Fee: $155 per class (25 students); $500 for 4 classes During this interactive workshop, Orlando Shakespeare Theater’s Actor/Educators encourage your students to act as authors and create story ideas for their own Magic Tree House Adventure. Through interactive games and theater exercises, students work in groups to pick a historical central character, time period, and magical object, creating a “snapshot” of story elements using their own bodies as statues. Students are introduced to the theater artist roles of director, stage manager, and actor. Follow-up activities include writing letters to author Mary Pope Osborne explaining their story suggestions, and designing book covers based on their ideas.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

HIGH

MARCH 2, 8, 13, 16, & 23, 2018

+ SCHOOL

By William Shakespeare Margeson Theater

Separated from her brother Sebastian, quick-thinking Viola adopts a male disguise and enters the service of the handsome Duke Orsino—only to find herself in the middle of a love triangle. When Viola’s new boss sends her to win over his unrequited love, the Countess Olivia, her disguise proves too effective and the Countess falls for the young girl dressed as a boy instead. Playing in rotation with Shakespeare in Love, we’ll explore how it was done in Shakespeare’s time (only with bathrooms and air conditioning). It will be a fully Elizabethan production – featuring the clothing, scenery, music and dance of 1602 and performed by an all-male cast. Jim Helsinger in Love’s Labour’s Lost

are designed to empower Middle and High School students by encouraging active listening, critical thinking, collaborative problem solving, and creative initiative through a 3-step process. First, use our skill-based Study Guides to supplement your students’ introduction to the story or play. Second, enjoy a workshop with our Actor/Educators in your classroom, giving your students hands-on experience with the text.
