TECHNICAL DATA & REGULATION Protecting your eyes is important and it is made possible thanks to the certified optical protection systems according to the current regulation. The certifications obtained are a result of research and technologies applied to our products.

THE EYE

RISKS AND DAMAGES

The eye is the main sense of the visual system, which attracts the light coming from the surrounding environment, regulates its intensity and focuses it to create a clean image of what we are observing. We can compare it, to permit an easier comprehension, to a camera with an auto-focus lens. The cornea and the crystalline lens are natural lenses in the middle of which there is the iris. The iris contains the pupil, which has the same purpose of the diaphragm in a camera, it tightens and expands depending on the intensity of the light. The purpose of the crystalline lens is to make the images converge on retina, as it happens on a photographic film. The retina is a thin membrane that converts visual stimuli into electrical impulses which reaches the brain through the optic nerve.

Every day, more than 100 accidents involving eyes or face occur in Italian workplaces. The consequences can be conjunctivitis, injuries to parts of the eye, until reaching partial or total blindness. 9 out of 10 eye injuries can be prevented using eye or face protection devices.

VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS There are various visual impairments due to several causes. In particular the eye may have myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism and presbyopia, even if the latter isn’t considered a real visual impairment, since it’s due to a normal crystalline lens ageing. MYOPIA Myopia causes a misrepresented view of objects placed at a long distance, while objects placed at a short distance are sharply perceived. The main cause of myopia is the eye structure, which in this case appears longer than normal. HYPERMETROPIA Hypermetropia causes a misrepresented view of objects at a short distance, while objects at a long distance are sharply perceived. The main cause of hypermetropia is the shape of the eye, which in this case appears shorter than normal. ASTIMAGTISM Astigmatism is a visual impairments that causes an image split, both at a short distance and long distance. An astigmatic person, without correction, will have a blurred vision. Astigmatism is caused by the irregular corneal surface. PRESBYOPIA Presbyopia isn’t considered as a real visual impairment as its origin is connected only to the progressive ageing of the crystalline lens which involves the loss of the ability to focus objects at a short distance. This is due to the fact that, as it ages, the substance that fills the crystalline lens becomes more and more dense and opaque, until the moment it reaches the last stage in the cataract.

PROTECTION AND PREVENTION

LENS TECHNOLOGY AND COLORATIONS

It is well known that the mere use of a general corrective device isn’t enough to prevent the eye injury risk. Essential is the continuous use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in relation to the kind of risk to which the worker is exposed.

For a correct use of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in any working situation, it’s essential to choose accurately the lenses with the best treatment or coloration. For this reason Univet offers a wide range of choices for every kind of risk and personal need.

Every worker has the right to be protected by adequate devices. To the need to wear safety glasses for long periods follows that they have to satisfy comfort requirements such as lightness, stability and fitting.

CLEAR RFL-X The antiglare treatment consists in the deposition of a thin layer of special mineral salts, or metal oxides, on the ophthalmic lenses, to reduce the remain glares of artificial light which have negative effects on the clearness of the perceived images.

Univet offers a wide range of corrective Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), designed on the basis of in-depth ergonomic studies, which guarantee comfort and an excellent fitting. The potential presence of nose-pad and temples adjustments allows further adaptations of the device in case of need. The face of each person has different physiognomic features, but everyone has the right to have the best protection when is exposed to different kinds of risks in the workplace.

BLUE RFL-X Blue RFL-X treatment is craeted to protect the eye health from damaging blue light emitted by backlit electronic devices (LED or LCD monitors and tablets) and from artificial lighting such as LEDs or neon lights. It also reduces visual weariness and makes images more clear.

POLYCARBONATE AND CR39 TECHNICAL FEATURES The POLYCARBONATE (PC) is one of the most transparent polymers and is characterized by a unique combination of toughness, optical transparency, rigidity and high impact resistance. Refractive index 1,586. CR39 is a polymer with good optical properties, and have high resistance to chemicals (particularly to solvents) and an excellent resistance to scratches and abrasion. Refractive Index 1,5. LENS FEATURES

“BROWN” POLYCARBONATE LENSES Colored lenses in different shades of brown are recommended for myopi people; this kind of coloration allows increased contrast vision.

“GREEN G15” POLYCARBONATE LENSES The green G15 coloration allows vision in unaltered contrasts and is recommended for hypermetropi people.

CENTRING RULES

OPHTALMIC LENSES PROGRESSIVE UNI-X LENS Free-form technology with internal progression. Optimization of any-distance vision (nearer to +20% compared to traditionals). Reduction of lateral distortion Structure Geometry: SOFT - Optimized Assembling height: from 14mm to 22mm Progression Channel: 16mm

Numeric references regards the right lens, whose center is red-depicted; the same data are the same of the left lens, whose the center is green-depicted.

To guarantee the best level of correction of each users’s visual impairments, according to the medical prescriptions, you can choose from the several types of ophthalmic lenses listed below. MONOFOCAL LENSES Monofocal lenses are optimized in order to make a clear vision of near or distant objects. They correct a single visual impairment, such as myopia, hypermetropia or presbyopia, combined with astigmatism. Structure geometry: spherical.

BIFOCAL LENSES Bifocal lenses allow you to well-see from short and long distance. Only a small part of the lens is dedicated to near vision. These lenses have an applied additional lens on the front of the lens that clearly marks the two vision distances.

UNI-X PROGRESSIVE LENSES Progressive lenses integrate different kinds of correction into a single lens, allowing fluid and homogeneous vision at any distance (far, intermediate, near). This feature is given from the perfect integration of the different visual sectors on the lens, which let make them indistinguishable from each other.

EUROPEAN REGULATION ON PERSONAL EYE PROTECTION

SCALE NUMBER ( CODE NUMBER - SHADE NUMBER)

According to 89/686/EEC directive regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), it means any kind of device or item intended to be worn or held by a person in order to protecting him against one or more risks which could endanger his health and safety, as well as any functional part which the device is composed of, even if it is detachable. Prescription Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) belongs to the II^ Protection Class.
