ZINE COLLECTION

First things first. WHAT’S A ZINE?!

Zines are niche, handmade, hyper-local booklets created by community members for community members. Anyone with access to a copy machine or printer can create a zine making this format more accessible than traditional publishing channels for quickly spreading ideas. This thing you’re holding…

it’s a ZINE.

OMAHA PUBLIC LIBRARY ZINE COLLECTION

ABOUT The Omaha Public Library Zine Collection launched in September of 2019 and is housed at the Benson Branch and W. Dale Clark Main Library. The collection was developed with support from the Rowdy Boys Collective and built with donations from the ALA Zine Pavilion and vendors from Omaha Zine Fest. Zines from the OPL Collection do not check out like typical library items. Patrons and the public are encouraged to read zines at the library, take them home to enjoy, share with others and ideally return to the library. Zines leaving the library will not be recorded and there will be no punitive action if a zine is not returned.

OUR

Omaha Public Library’s Zine Collection covers a wide range of topics, often representing marginalized and alternative viewpoints not found in mainstream publishing. The collection primarily focuses on zines created within or about Nebraska. Other zines may be included to create a collection that is balanced across subject areas and that speaks to community needs and interests.

ZINES The OPL Zine Collection is built primarily of donated zines and zine donations help ensure the continued success of the collection. Zines can be donated to any library branch. If you have a zine that you would like the library to consider for purchase, fill out our suggest a zine form at
