HIGH IGH C CHURCH HURCH H

Have your dream ceremony and reception together in one perfect place - Brisbane’s most unique wedding venue. “We recently held our wedding at High Church and it was absolutely amazing. Not only is the venue stunning, the staff were so helpful leading up to the event, and they created the most beautiful floral arrangements for the day. They allowed us to have our fur baby Rufus on site, which made the day even more special for me and my husband. We’d definitely recommend High Church to anyone looking for an informally formal wedding space!” - Stephanie R.

BUCKLE 1922 - 2020 seasonal trends https://buckle1922.com.au

SUMMER For summer, bigger and bolder prints are back in style. The mature way to wear this trend is in subtle statement pieces. Accessories in fun patterns allow you to express your personality and overcome wardrobe monotony without being overwhelming. Braces, bow ties and pocket squares are elegant, traditional accessories that can be made contemporary with quirky prints. Wear them against this season’s neutrals to create a unique but polished look. Featured: Buckle 1922 Belt, Hamptons Webbing, $54 | Buckle 1922 Braces, Gentlemen $49 | Buckle 1922 Toucans, $49 | Buckle 1922 Pocket Square, Paisley Grey, $24 | Buckle 1922 Cufflink, 199 $34 | Buckle 1922 Bow Tie, Orange Plaid, $34

AUTUMN Transition seasons with textures. Ideal for the rich jewel tones of Autumn attire, textures are where a little bit goes a long way. Layering different weaves gives visual variation, draws the eye, adds depth and is the signature of luxury. Try on a variety of materials with accessories – knits to soften a serious look, leather weaves for a touch of modern craftmanship, or embossed metal for sharp sophistication. Featured: Buckle 1922 Tie Clip, ST Gun Metal, $34 | Buckle 1922 Bow Tie,Vintage Herringbone $34 | Buckle 1922 Cufflink, 199 $34 | Buckle 1922 Belt, Daytona, Ox Blood, $54

WINTER The Australian current winter trend is every shade but black. Cold weather wardrobes are often dominated by this colour, so lightening up will make you a sartorial standout. The season still lends itself to deep hues, but with lighter undertones, such as rich navies, steel greys, and vivid maroons. If black is your go-to, simply incorporate some colourful accessories as accent pieces, which will benefit by standing out against a dark background. Featured: Featured: Buckle 1922 Tie, Navy Spot, $39 | Buckle 1922 Ties Bar, Mother of Peal $39 | Buckle 1922 Belt, Senna, Tan $54 | Buckle 1922 Pocket Square, Carnival, Maroon/Orange $24

SPRING Spring’s signature soft pastels are a classic, can’t-go-wrong style for men. They provide a handsome, fresh infusion of colour that’s a distinct departure from the standard spectrum. Rose and powder blue tones, shades of lilac and faded yellow lead this look. Accessories in light hues will help ease anyone into this trend – add a pastel pocket square to be ready for the races, coordinate sky blue cufflinks with a crisp white shirt, or tie on a mint bow tie to contrast a navy suit. Featured: Buckle 1922 Cufflinks, 025 $49 | Buckle 1922 Belt, Daytona, Ox Blood $54 | Buckle 1922 Pocket Square, Plaid, Pink $24 | Buckle 1922 Bow Tie, Nautical, $34

HAYLEY & JOSHUA 20 April 2019, Brisbane QLD

“We met during high school and started out as a couple of ‘kids in love’. Fourteen years later we decided it was time to make things official and as they say, the rest is history!”

a mixture of old world classics and contemporary detail with shades of neutral colours, a splash of gold and emerald green.”

“The proposal was all Josh! He’d arranged a weekend at our favourite getaway location, Elements of Byron. Our little escape was in celebration of our 13 year anniversary. Surprisingly Josh was steps ahead of me and proposed a couple of days prior to our anniversary date. He lured me to the ‘heart of the bay’ at sunset where picnic rugs were laid out, champagne was on ice and a spread of my favourite food was arranged. It was more than I could have imagined.”

“Despite the numerous uncontrollable challenges that we faced on the day, to name one the ‘torrential rain’, all our incredible suppliers made the day happen and in the end it all came together. We were fortunate enough to have a ‘take 2’ for our bridal party photos at a later date (one of the many perks of working in the industry). Our photographer Cassandra captured every intricate detail and cherishable moment. Our wedding ceremony was certainly the highlight of the day. It was raw, emotional and euphoric; you could feel the energy and love. We were surrounded by the people in our lives that matter the most and having them there meant everything to us.”

Hayley Sims and Joshua Thistlethwaite were married on 20 April 2019 in a ceremony at Hanworth House, East Brisbane followed by a reception at Hillstone St Lucia. “Being involved in the wedding industry made it particularly difficult to decide on a style for our wedding. I changed my mind several times as I continually saw different looks and colour palettes that couples had chosen for their big day. We were able to create our final look all because of the incredible styling advice and recommendations our vendors had given us. I worked with my own mood board, using Instagram of course! Social media has many uses and I formed a grid of inspiration which I could reference at any point so I knew the colour selections and choices I was making across different vendors was cohesive. I looked at this regularly during the planning process. Our final look was

“We hired a car and travelled throughout the South Island of New Zealand. It was Autumn and the snow was starting to fall as were the leaves. Everywhere we looked was absolutely magical! We escaped to locations which were completely off grid, it was the best way to relax and enjoy the post wedding bliss together.” “The best advice that we can offer couples planning a wedding is to keep it simple. Don’t over complicate your plans and get fixated on trivial things. Remember the real reason for the day is marrying the person you love.”

LISA & LAUCHLAN

21 September 2019, Brisbane QLD

“We met just after Lockie had finished high school and I was in grade 12. He played footy with the guys from my school who I would often to go parties with. One of our friends arranged for me to get a ride with them to a party one night and Lockie was driving. I jumped in the back seat with one of our friends and Lockie turned around and introduced himself. Most guys at that age probably would have just briefly nodded and said ‘Hi’ from the front seat.” “Lockie proposed during a long weekend in Maleny. We were having a glass of wine on our balcony, watching the sunset over the mountains, when he pulled out a ring and got on one knee.” Lauchlan and Lisa Davidson were married on 21 September 2019 in the Jacaranda Garden at The Brisbane Golf Club, followed by a reception in the Tennyson Room.

“The theme of our wedding was Elegance. Surprisingly taking photos was one of the biggest highlights for us. We were on such an amazing high from the ceremony and so loved up! We had so much fun out on the golf course with our best friends, having drinks, nibbles and mucking around taking photos.” “We spent our honeymoon at the TreeHouse Villas Koh Yao Noi Luxury Resort, Thailand (amazing honeymoon location!) and Hanoi, Vietnam.” “Have a realistic budget so that sticking to it closely enough is manageable and doesn’t cause extra stress. Once the day arrives, let go of wanting to control everything and have the attitude of ‘whatever happens, happens’. Just have fun and enjoy the moment, no matter what!”

YOUR MARRIAGE CELEBRANT

Planning a wedding is about creating a celebration of a lifetime. Where you will get married… What you will wear… The rings… The photographer… The cake, the music… Remember to book your celebrant…

Your wedding day starts with your Marriage Ceremony. It is important to book your celebrant early. There are legal requirements in preparation for your marriage. This is your day and from our first meeting I will listen to your dreams and help you build your ceremony the way you want it. All ceremonies ‘By Jude’ are customised and personal. No two people are the same and no two ceremonies are the same. Whether it’s formal, on the beach, a small wedding at a BBQ, an elopement or a huge noisy affair… nothing is too much trouble! Every word is spoken with warmth and personality and delivered professionally. My gift to you is that your ceremony will be an individual and everlasting memory.

“From the beginning Jude guided us effortlessly through the legal and emotional requirements of our day. Nothing was too much trouble, and she took control where needed, but allowed us the freedom to add our individual touches. On the day, Jude spoke with a casual, friendly and sincere manner, seamlessly blending our solemn and humorous moments, but her amazing talent is the way she involved our guests in the celebration, making them part of the special event. They were entranced from her first words.” WILL & BEN

SAM & RYAN

18 April 2019, Spicers Hidden Vale QLD

“We met the first year of high school. I was 12 and Ryan was 13. By chance, we also crossed paths at a Christmas Party a few years prior to starting school together. Not that we knew it at the time, but our dads worked together!” Sam describes the very romantic proposal: “Ryan took me on a surprise helicopter flight on the Sunshine Coast, where we are from! It was like a scene from ‘The Bachelor’. He got down on one knee just before the flight.” Samantha Langford and Ryan Pearson were married on 18 April 2019 at Spicers Hidden Vale in a ceremony at The Fig Tree and reception on Laidley Lawn. “We chose a country/vintage theme which worked really well with the venue and also represented our personalities. I had some ribbons attached to my bouquet and a piece of my mum’s veil from her wedding which was so special to me. One of my favourite parts of our styling was my bouquet. I loved the colours. We also enjoyed gathering some blooms at the markets and creating DIY florals on the tables. We accumulated some Op Shop tea cups, tea pots, brass vases, vintage books, doilies, etc. for the tables in the year leading up to the wedding which was also fun and fitted our styling brief.” “Something completely different for Ryan – a powder blue suit… He’s quite a character and we wanted to pick a suit

colour that would represent that! We think the colours worked well with the bridesmaids dresses too. Continuing with the vintage theme, my long-sleeved lace dress and beautiful veil designed by When Freddie Met Lilly was absolutely perfect. Vanessa listened to all my ideas and fit the brief perfectly. I loved my dress.” “For our first dance we chose ‘I’m With You’ by Vance Joy. We’d originally chosen ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson but we heard the Vance Joy song together one day and both had goose bumps. We knew we had to choose it instead. We had the Jack Johnson song for the cake cutting.” “There were so many highlights! The moment right before walking down the aisle…our first dance which was choreographed by Ryan’s cousin, Tori… photo time with our incredible bridal party… the love we soaked up all day from our nearest and dearest and marrying my absolute best friend in the world.” “We visited Europe in 2013 during the winter and vowed to return in the warmer months so that’s what we did! We went to London, Positano, Rome, Dubrovnik, Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. It was absolutely incredible.” “Our newlywed advice… Breathe! Respect each other and have a laugh. Have fun! Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

LAURA & MATTHEW 9 August 2019, Toowoomba QLD

“We met through the dating app Tinder five and a half years ago. We spoke every day from about 3pm until midnight for a week and then arranged our first date. For both of us, it was our first Tinder date, so we got pretty lucky!” “Matt emailed me at work and suggested we do date night that evening. I agreed and didn’t think too much of it. We ordered sushi from our favourite place and had a picnic at Kangaroo Point cliffs, which was where we had our first kiss on our first date. Matt got down on one knee in front of the beautiful night lights of Brisbane city and asked me to marry him. I was incredibly shocked and said: ‘Oh My God’ for about five minutes before responding ‘Yes!’” Laura and Matthew de Closey were married on 9 August 2019 in a ceremony and reception at Gabbinbar Homestead. “A lot of our inspiration came from the venue itself. We just loved the beauty of Gabbinbar Homestead and styled our

wedding to match the vintage, classic feel of the venue. We were so lucky with all of our vendors who did such an amazing job of creating our dream wedding and were an absolute pleasure to work with. The wedding planners at Gabbinbar were so helpful. Any question was answered within 24 hours through their online app ‘My Gabbinbar’ and nothing was too much trouble.” “For their honeymoon Laura and Matthew spent a month in Europe.” Matt describes their wedding highlights: “Finally seeing each other when Laura walked down the aisle. Reading our vows to each other and the time we spent with our friends and family.” “Our advice is to tailor your wedding so that it suits you both as a couple. Don’t sweat the small details and don’t lose sight of what a wedding is all about - marrying the love of your life!”

CHARMAINE & DANIEL 13 July 2019, Mt Mee QLD

Charmaine Pollock and Daniel Spencer met in the Winter of 2015 in West End, Brisbane. They started chatting and bonded over their mutual love of adventuring, coffee and fairy lights. They both knew there was something special happening and the following year when Charmaine travelled to Japan for work, Dan decided to quit his job to join her on that adventure. “In the Winter of 2017 (we really love Winter!), we travelled to Iceland for a white Christmas, fireworks and Northern Lights. Unbeknownst to me, Daniel had an engagement ring custom made before the trip. After a day of exploring caves, we found ourselves on a ‘black diamond beach’. Black pebbles lined the shoreline and the pure water had frozen into large ‘diamonds’ on the coast amongst a scattered shipwreck. Dan pretended to be taking photos of the pebbles and said: ‘This one’s really shiny!’ And when I turned around, he was on one knee with the engagement ring.” Charmaine and Daniel were married on 13 July 2019 in a ceremony and reception held at Ocean View Estates, Mt Mee. “We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us and everything we loved – so our theme was a bit of a combination of ‘natural/hipster’. We wanted lots of Australian native flowers, greenery and wood features (with our favourite herb, Rosemary, to scent the reception and bouquets). Our décor was vintage and we made sure we kept everything as eco-friendly and handmade as we could,

using local vendors and involving our friends. We designed the stationery together.” Charmaine’s dress was ‘Milly’ by Mori Lee from White Lily Couture. Her hair piece was an ‘hair-loom’ created by Helena Rose Designs and made from her Nana’s lace, Grandmother’s pearls and Mother’s beads. “My Mother made my earrings and my other accessories were gifts from Daniel on the morning of our wedding. Our friends at Etch It Designs made keepsake place cards for our guests.” “My favourite moment was seeing all our friends and family’s smiling faces and my husband-to-be’s joy as I walked down the aisle. Another highlight was standing with Dan while watching our fireworks, in awe and surrounded by our loved ones.” “Daniel’s highlight was once we were officially married and the music started and confetti flew, he was filled with overwhelming joy!” For their honeymoon, Charmaine and Daniel went on safari in South Africa before spending a few weeks relaxing in Mauritius. “Our advice to anyone planning a wedding is you don’t have to do it all! Delegate and leave the finer details to the professionals. They will save you so much time and stress!”

JESSICA & RYAN

14 September 2019, Noosa QLD

“We loved the pop-up bar provided by Elopements Noosa which included a fabulous grazing platter. We loved spending time at Hidden Grove after the ceremony, enjoying the beautiful scenery. The ferry ride on The Noosa River Ferry was pretty spectacular. We watched the sun set and the full moon rise and were lucky to have such a beautiful evening.” Jess & Ryan

“When Jess contacted me about designing a package for her and Ryan’s intimate beachfront wedding, I was so delighted. I always get excited when couples from interstate choose beautiful Noosa to begin their future together. Jess’s brief on how she envisaged her day was ‘Private, Intimate & Elegant’, so we knew ‘Coastal Luxe’ was the perfect vibe for their ceremony at Hidden Grove. We created a styling mood board to help Jess capture our ideas, which she loved as she is a visual person. The ceremony was just magical, a beautiful blend of very close friends and family... a perfect day for a perfect couple in love!” Danni, Elopements Noosa

“We met through mutual friends in our home town, Mildura and decided to go for coffee to get to know each other. We sat there for hours chatting and felt an instant connection then quickly began spending more and more time together.” “Ryan proposed to me in his Mum’s garden when we were home for Christmas. We were ready to go out for drinks at Trentham Estate Winery and decided to get a few photos in the garden. He proposed mid-photo, getting down on one knee and his mum was as surprised as I was but somehow managed to keep taking photos. I was so shocked that I forgot to answer the question. But eventually remembered to say: ‘Yes’.” Jessica Treweek and Ryan Kee were married on 14 September 2019 in a ceremony at Hidden Grove, Noosa Heads. Their reception was held at Rickys River Bar & Restaurant. “The theme of our wedding was ‘Coastal Luxe’ - less is more for us. We wanted the day to be relaxed and understated. It was all about the surroundings and the weather and it doesn’t get any better than Noosa! Danni at Elopements Noosa planned and created our entire day. She was full of ideas and inspiration and understood the things that were important to us. She was very generous with her time and took away all the stress associated with planning such a big celebration.”

“Our Marriage Celebrant, Cassandra Bowles was the perfect fit for our special day. She made us all feel at ease and nailed the ceremony script. Our photographer, Jodie Modric was a hoot! She made us all laugh and feel relaxed during our photo shoot and delivered such gorgeous photos. Deb White from Beauty on the Move came to us at the house to do our hair and makeup. She made everyone feel at ease with her calm presence and made all the ladies look absolutely stunning.” Jess’ dress was purchased secondhand. It was originally made by a local Melbourne designer and was altered and refitted by Manningvale Fabrics in Geelong West. Her accessories included Nine West shoes and Swarovski earrings. Karlee’s bridesmaid dress was from Bariano. Ryan and his best man, Jarrod’s outfits were purchased from Doug Haynes in Mildura. They wore Tommy Hilfiger shirts and Ralph Lauren pants. Ryan’s jacket was purchased from Trenery. “We honeymooned in Noosa - of course! We spent a week with our lovely guests and family and then had a few days to ourselves at the end of our stay.” “Our advice for anyone planning an interstate wedding, is to pay the additional money to hire a professional local wedding planner. It takes the stress and hassle away, not only leading up to the wedding but also on the wedding day itself. You will know everything is sorted and have nothing to worry about.”

KATHERINE & TIM 27 April 2019, Montville QLD

Katherine and Tim met at a packed bar on Easter Sunday three years ago. “I was trying to line up to get a drink and Tim was trying to push through the crowd to go home. I asked him if he was in the drinks line and he laughed and told me that he was just trying to go home. Seeing that he wasn’t having much luck leaving, I suggested he stay for a drink instead. He ended up staying for many drinks and the rest is history!” “Tim proposed on top of a glacier in New Zealand during a helicopter flight to Milford Sound. He dropped a knee in the snow while I was fumbling around trying to get my gloves onto my freezing hands. It was such a magical day!” Katherine and Tim Hannan were married at Montville Country Cabins on 27 April 2019. “We love camping and being outdoors, so we chose Montville Country Cabins because we wanted to have our ceremony and reception in a tranquil outdoor setting and also loved the idea of having a firepit. We wanted our wedding to be both elegant and laid back in a setting we knew our friends and family would love. Christine at Montville Country Cabins was very helpful. We went back and forth in emails over the months leading up to our wedding and I would run ideas by her to get her thoughts and discuss what would work best. She also designed our arbor and it looked so beautiful on the day!”

“We hired a clear marquee, ecotoilets, coolroom, lights and furniture from Equip4Hire and it all came together beautifully. Our favours were little bottles of Irish cream liquor which I made using tags from Etsy and glasses ordered online. I ordered our invitations through Vistaprint and all the other bits and pieces from Etsy.” “Our highlight was the dancing! We had a lot of guests fly in from WA and they came ready to party. Our dance floor was pumping early on in the night and we loved seeing our guests having so much fun!” Katherine and Tim honeymooned at Komandoo, The Maldives. “Our wedding advice is to trust your MC or event planner to make changes to the schedule if need be and just roll with it! Everyone was having such a great time and our MC knew it would be hard to call them all back to their seats to cut our wedding cake; so he suggested we do it straight after our speeches and it was perfect. That way all the formalities were over early and the night flowed. Also, take a few quiet minutes together to walk away from the crowd and take it all in. Tim and I stepped away from the marquee and watched all our beautiful friends and family having fun and celebrating our wedding day. We really enjoyed that moment... because before we knew it, it was over.”

DRASSINAH & JOHN

21 September 2019, Brisbane QLD

Drassinah Papadimitriou met John Tanos through school friends. They were married on 21 September 2019 in the Greek Orthodox Church of St George. Their reception was held at Howard Smith Wharves. Drassinah describes the proposal: “John made me book the holiday so that I wouldn’t get suspicious of him doing something nice out of the blue. I booked The Villas of Byron in Byron Bay. We had our own villa with a bedroom that overlooked a pool with a waterfall feature. Not long after we got there, typical John had a 2-3 hour nap! I decided to get some sun and sit by our pool. The evening crept up and I went inside and sat down next to the big sliding doors that overlooked the pool. John sat beside me on a stool. We were talking about life and embracing the moment and when I stood up to walk away, he pulled me back. When I turned around I saw him on one knee asking me to marry him: ‘Will you say yes and kiss me already?’ To that, I laughed, nodded my head, gave him a huge kiss and let him put on the remarkable diamond ring he had custom made for me.” “I wanted to achieve something different! That was the one word I kept repeating when creating my dream wedding. I think my dress was the first influence. I chose it very early after being engaged and knew from that moment how much I wanted to shine. I followed through using crystal effects above the dance floor with endless rows of candles on long tables to help create an elegant, yet sexy feel to the room.” “I had a clear vision of my wedding venue and how I wanted all the pieces put together. It was very late in the game when we asked Agnes from Redlands Fresh Flowers to create my wedding florals. I wanted florals on my round

tables and the bridal table to really exceed expectations as we didn’t have flowers on every table. Agnes blew my mind when she created the florals for my bridal shower, with bright and bold oranges, yellows and pinks. When it came to the wedding, I wanted soft colours with white Colombian roses and a hint of pastel pink.” “A year and a half before my wedding I found Mandi from Ivy & Bleu Events. On the day, she was up at dawn calling me and telling me not to worry about the rain as it would clear by 10am. Throughout the day she followed me, telling me to breathe and take it all in. She was there to throw my veil in the air for photos and fix my hair when it was out of place!” “Our first dance song was to ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ Elvis Presley. We both think it is such an all-time classic love song. Can’t choose any better!” “Our honeymoon was spent at Banyan Tree Lang Co in Vietnam, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and Anantara Kihavah Villas in the Maldives. We love to travel and have been to multiple places around the world, so we decided we wanted to choose something more relaxing and romantic with top star quality, to enjoy each other’s company as husband and wife.” “Planning a wedding, especially for a large amount of guests can be very stressful. The day itself seems like a blur. You spend so much time thinking and planning all for one day; but that one day is so very special. You need to remember to cherish every single moment as it really is a once-in-a-lifetime dream come true.“

DRASSINAH’S HIGHLIGHTS “The whole day for me was incredible but the reception and seeing every detail that came together from what were only ideas and thoughts, was breath taking. I had a clear vision in my head what the room was going to look like but it completely exceeded my expectations. Not only had I planned bit by bit, but suppliers continued to go above and beyond by completely surprising me with an entry to the reception room that blew my mind. These are the special things that mean so much to you on the day. Everyone putting in 100% to make you feel just that bit more special.”

JOHN’S HIGHLIGHTS “Being able to call my fiancé ‘my wife’ for the first time. Standing in the church when the Priest told me to turn around to see Drassinah walking down the aisle. I turned around and there she was with a huge grin on her face as if she was the happiest girl alive. I shook her Dad’s hand and then took hers to start the next chapter of our lives together from there forward.”

AUDREY & KYLE

31 August 2019, Waterford QLD

Kyle and Audrey met in a small country town called Charleville, 12 hours west of Brisbane. It was a grand final rugby league night and everyone was going to celebrate the town’s win at a local RSL. “We had seen each other a couple of times at the local gym, however we were scared to talk to each other. That night was different! Kyle called me over to him and his cousin formally introduced us. We ended up leaving together. He walked me home and the rest is history.” “The proposal took place on 11 February 2017. I am a nurse and shift work always complicates our time schedule so we decided to have an early Valentine’s Day. We went to dinner at the nicest restaurant in Charleville called Menzies Steakhouse. Kyle was super nervous but I didn’t pick up the signs as he was acting strange. Usually he is a big eater, however that night he didn’t eat much. He usually loves to talk but didn’t seem to have a lot to talk about. At first I thought he might not be feeling well. As we left the restaurant, he asked me to hold his can of drink. I started to walk towards the car without realising I was leaving him behind on one knee. As I had just gotten into the car, he hurried over to ask me to be his wife. My heart sank as I didn’t expect it at all and of course I said ‘Yes’. He had planned it all within six months.” Audrey and Kyle Sullivan were married on 31 August 2019 at The White House of Waterford. Their ceremony was performed by the bride’s cousin, Minister Henry Ito.

“The highlight was announcing our pregnancy at the reception as we had kept it a secret! The food and drink service was also a highlight and when we opened the dance floor after the formalities, all our guests were up dancing and no one wanted to sit down after that.”

“We spent our honeymoon at the Meriton Suite Hotel in Southport on the Gold Coast.” “Our advice to other couples planning a wedding is to enjoy each moment as it comes. Things that don’t go according to plan on the day are not meant to happen - don’t stress out about it. It’s easier said than done but enjoy the planning process. It is also important to include your fiancé in the planning process and ask their opinion. Don’t let others tell you what to do because at the end of the day, it’s your special day! One thing we do regret is not having a videographer, however thanks to our photographer we were able to have small snippets of videos put together to make a short yet memorable film.”

21 September 2019, Brisbane QLD

Cody and Jessica met on their first day at QUT where they both studied a Bachelor of Law and Business. To propose, Cody took Jessica on a surprise trip to Malaysia. They then flew to Langkawi, an island off Malaysia. Cody proposed during a surprise private dinner on Cenang Beach. Cody Nguyen and Jessica Medina were married on 21 September 2019 in a ceremony at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, Bowen Hills. Their reception was held at Customs House Brisbane. “The wedding theme was Elegant Minimalism - luxurious, clean, bright and classic. Our highlight was the beautiful service at our ceremony which was so uplifting. Walking into the Long Room at Customs House for the first time for our reception was also an amazing experience. The room looked absolutely beautiful.” The newlyweds honeymooned in Singapore and Koh Samui. “After months of wedding planning, we wanted to take some time to sit back and relax.” “Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to try to stay organised, work together, enjoy the process and most importantly, don’t sweat the small stuff!”

RACHEL & AIDAN

23 August 2019, Ewingsdale NSW

When Rachel was looking for someone to rent a room, Aidan applied and their friendship soon turned into romance. The proposal took place in Florence. “One night before dinner, Aidan lit candles on a beautiful balcony overlooking Santa Maria del Fiore and then got down on one knee. It was very romantic.” Rachel Hammett and Aidan Magee were married on 23 August 2019 at Byron View Farm. “When it came time to plan our wedding, we wanted something pretty and casual. I liked the rose garden theme. I don’t have an events planning bone in my body so for us it made sense to hire a wedding planner. Nicole at Byron Bay

Weddings made the whole planning process totally stress free, styling everything to perfection.” “The food was definitely a highlight and so was having our little rescue dog, Jack as our ring bearer. The whole day was like a dream, as if we were in a fairytale.” “Our first dance was to ‘Have I Told You Lately’ by Van Morrison. We chose that song as Van Morrison is Irish just like Aidan. I have also loved that song since I was 10, which is odd!” “We spent our honeymoon in an over-water bungalow in the Maldives… a very typical honeymoon location but it was magnificent.”

JESS & NICK

1 June 2019, Brisbane QLD

Jess and Nick met at university in 2011. “Some of Nick’s friends were studying Law with me and he decided to come along to a lecture rather than sitting through his own accounting class. We sat together during the lecture and after the class he asked me to go for a coffee some time. Not realising he was asking me out, my response was: ‘I don’t drink coffee’, which could have been the end of it, but thankfully he wasn’t put off and we soon became a couple.” “Poor Nick had spent months researching diamonds and settings and putting a beautiful ring together and had grand plans of proposing at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa while at a friend’s wedding in April 2018. The day before we were scheduled to head off, Nick contracted a horrible flu. Ever the trooper, he still came to the Cape the next day and even brought the ring, but when we got there he could barely stand up and decided that he didn’t want to propose like that. He really wanted to propose while we were overseas and was rapidly running out of time. Fortunately we had a night tour booked in Dubai during our stopover on the way home and about 4am, outside one of the Prince’s beautiful palaces in Dubai, Nick asked me to marry him. I said ‘Yes’ and spent the rest of the trip home staring at my left hand.” Jess and Nick Grant were married on 1 June 2019 in a ceremony at Orleigh Park, West End followed by a reception at Loft West End. “Nick’s stepmother, Julie Grant, was our Celebrant and MC, which was special for us. We wanted to keep things simple

and timeless and opted for lots of greenery, candles and fairy lights with touches of burgundy. Our friend, Katherine Graham made our delicious red velvet wedding cake as a gift! She also made our favours which were cupcakes in a variety of flavours. Everyone raved about them after the wedding. She is a very talented baker!” “Having our dog, Holly at the ceremony was a highlight. Another highlight was Nick surprising me with a duet performing at the ceremony in the background. Everyone really outdid themselves with the speeches and people still mention the speeches to us. My dance with my dad to a special song and having everyone in our lives all together in one place to celebrate with us, felt really special.” Jess and Nick spent their honeymoon in Europe - Greece, Croatia and Italy. “Our advice is to create a wedding based around the things that are important to you. We wanted to essentially have a great big party and that was exactly what we did. The finer details didn’t matter to us as much so we focused on a large guest list and having great food, drinks and music for everyone to enjoy. Make whatever matters to you the priority because you only get to do it once. Also regardless of what you do and don’t prioritise, make sure you are 100% happy with your outfit (and hair and makeup) as well as your photographer. Nick and I did most of the planning together and it made it so much easier. Splitting the duties and having someone to bounce ideas off is great and you end up with a wedding that you are both so eager for, making the whole process feel really special.”

PHAEDRA & BEN

10 August 2019, North Stradbroke Island QLD

“We worked together and became great friends. We started seeing each other in a romantic sense in 2012, had a son in 2015 and finally tied the knot in 2019.” “Ben proposed while we were on a South Pacific cruise with Ben’s parents, our 2-year-old and my three kids from a previous marriage. It was hard to find any time to ourselves but one afternoon we had a brief moment when we were on the balcony watching the sun set. Ben asked me if I wanted to get married and my answer was: ‘Sure, why not?’ He said: ‘Can you bring me my boot then?’ He had hidden the engagement ring in his RM Williams. This describes our type of romance. Enough, but not over the top! We were pretty happy and our kids were even more excited.” Phaedra Carlile and Benjamin Bishop were married on 10 August 2019 in a ceremony at Main Beach Headland, followed by a reception at Point Lookout Surf Club on North Stradbroke Island. “We wanted a beachy, fun wedding and nothing too structured. Our bridal party were primarily our children and family members. We had a gorgeous setting so anything we did only enhanced the natural beauty of North Stradbroke Island. Ben had been coming to the island since he was a small child. We both love the quiet of the island, the diving and what it means to us and the kids, so it was a ‘no-brainer’ we would get married there.” “We were keen to get some photos taken at the local Dive Shop (Manta Lodge) and our photographer, Ang was happy to liaise with the owners to make sure it was ok that we had photos taken in our ‘happy place’. We purchased a beautiful combination of dried Australian wild flowers in varying colours which were delivered a couple of weeks

before the wedding for the bouquets and floral arrangements and they looked amazing on the day. They are in our bedroom and continue to smell wonderful. We purchased our decorations from various shops and online stores and our head bridesmaid made succulent pots for the tables. We had baby’s breath in recycled glass jars on the tables. Stradbroke Island Events provided the hire equipment and gave us the option to set up and pack down ourselves to save some money. We were lucky to have some wonderful friends and family to help us. Local caterers from Whales Way Restaurant provided the catering onsite at the Surf Club. Matty Ross from MR Entertainment provided the live acoustic and DJ music and acted as our MC. A Straddie local, he is well respected and loved by everyone on the Island and made us feel like we were old friends from the moment we met. As most of our guests were staying at the Samarinda Jewel By The Sea apartments, a short walk from the Surf Club, we hired a mini bus to take them back up the hill to their accommodation.” “Our highlight was committing to each other in front of our children and family and having everyone special to us included on the day. We were married in the most amazing location, one that had particular meaning for us as a family. We had the whole weekend to catch up with those we don’t see all that often.” “We are still planning our honeymoon but will more than likely head to one of the Pacific Islands for a combined dive trip/honeymoon.” “Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to not sweat the small stuff because in the end people want to see you happy and enjoying your day.”

HANNAH & AIDAN 3 October 2019, Preston QLD

“We met on Tinder while we were both working and living in Townsville.” “The proposal happened during a long weekend camping around Port Douglas and the Atherton Tablelands. We stopped at Rex Lookout to watch the sun set over the ocean and Aidan asked me to be his wife.” Hannah and Aidan Bright were married on 3 October 2019 at Preston Peak Winery Function Centre. “Preston Peak is such a beautiful venue that it hardly needs any styling. Most of our inspiration came from our florist who perfectly decorated the tree behind our ceremony and dressed our reception tables.” “Our wedding highlight was being able to catch up with all our family and friends in a fun and stress-free environment. The staff at Preston Peak made everything run so smoothly so we could just sit back and have fun with no worries.” “We had a mini moon at Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat.” “We definitely recommend getting a videographer. We will cherish our wedding video forever.”

ALEX & LAURA

13 September 2019, Brisbane QLD

Alex planned the proposal for six months. Being shift workers, she started writing in a journal every time they were on opposite shifts or away from each other. She wrote notes about funny conversations they had, plans they made and even little disagreements that were usually about her trying to hide any proposal plans. Alex had the ring made in Scotland, where she is from and made sure it had sentimental qualities and was perfect for Laura. On a much anticipated holiday to Tasmania in June 2018, Alex took Laura to the Bay of Fires to watch the sun rise. While they were there, Alex read her last journal entry to Laura and got down on one knee asking her to spend the rest of her life with her. Alex then gave the journal to Laura to enjoy reading about the six months of planning. The rest of the trip was amazing and a few months later Alex came home to Laura to find her reading a letter and down on one knee. Laura didn’t want Alex to miss out on a beautiful engagement ring and also proposed. Alex and Laura Mathie-Marciano were married on 13 September 2019 at Victoria Park, Herston.

“Being in a same-sex relationship with marriage only becoming legal in recent times, there wasn’t a set precedent which made it easy to style our special day exactly how we wanted it. Our colour theme was mauve and silver and we wanted a relaxed approach.” “A highlight was performing a traditional Scottish Handfasting, signifying our family, friends and each other. Also surprising Alex with a bag piper as she went to walk down the aisle.” “We went on a 6-week Italy, Barcelona and Scotland adventure for our honeymoon.” “Our advice for anyone planning a wedding is be selfish! Make it what you want and at the end of the day you will be standing in a room filled with people who love you and want to celebrate your happiness. Enjoy every minute because it goes fast. Don’t sweat the small stuff, it will all fall into place!”

SELLENA & MATT

10 November 2019, Preston QLD

“We met at a party through a mutual friend, Jemma. I stalked Matt on Facebook that night as Jemma told me he was single. I added him accidentally (back in the day where you couldn’t delete friend requests once you sent them!) and then we started talking and hanging out. We ended up going on a cruise with Jemma and her friend and we soon knew it was love when we realised how alike we were and how much we clicked.” “The proposal took place on our 5-year anniversary. I had an inkling Matt might have been planning to propose but my hopes quickly faded when he started the day off with: ‘So what do you want to do today?’ We ended up going to Airlie Beach and he took me to a secluded part of the beach where he got down on one knee. It was perfect.” Sellena Armanno and Matthew Peters were married on 10 November 2019 at Preston Peak Winery Function Centre. “The wedding theme was ‘Rustic Elegant’. I was adamant I didn’t want any bling or anything super fancy and I loved the rustic greenery look. We had our dog, Wilbur there which most people didn’t know about. He brought our rings down the aisle and stayed for family photos. It was one of the most special moments ever. I got him to ‘talk’ on cue too, which everyone loved!”

“The staff at Preston Peak went above and beyond to make our day perfect and it really took a load of stress off our shoulders. My Aunty made the bouquets and we both hand made the table centrepieces with natural logs and fake greenery. My sister, Danielle Scougall made our cake. It was brought out on a platter board with sparklers which was a cool surprise. The speeches were a highlight. They were so heartfelt and funny with a lot of jokes included. We both have a good sense of humour so we loved having a good laugh. We spent our wedding night at Panoramic Haven, a stunning home nearby which was included in our wedding package.” “We are planning a honeymoon in Europe in 2020. Our son Wilbur deserves to spend his first Christmas with us lol.” “I found asking too many people for opinions ended up confusing me even more. I recommend going to just one or two people instead. Give your bridal party a copy of the run sheet so they can help make sure things are going to schedule. Pick a few things that mean the most to you and allocate more money towards them. The venue, photography and having Wilbur there were the most important things to us, so we made sure we got them sorted first.”

AMY & JACK

1 June 2019, Brisbane QLD

Amy and Jack were set up on a blind date by one of their mutual friends: “We met at Watt Bar at Brisbane Powerhouse for a Sunday afternoon drink. One drink turned into two, which turned into dinner. After just a few short weeks, we both knew we had found what we had been looking for in a partner and knew we would be together forever. We found we had a lot in common, particularly our love for outdoor activities and challenges. We registered for the 2018 Gold Coast Marathon together. With hundreds of kilometres run behind us, we found ourselves on the starting line. Just as the gun went off, Jack said to me: ‘If you make it to the end of this marathon, I will ask you to marry me’. He took off like Steve Moneghetti leaving me to ponder for 42.2 kilometres whether his parting comment was serious or not. He found me at the finish line and before I knew it, he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. I quickly responded ‘Yes’. This will always be the greatest marathon I have completed - ‘winning’ the most beautiful ring and a lifetime with my best friend.” “When we started planning our wedding we had no real vision of what our special day would look like. What we did know was that we wanted a room full of love, laughter and fun, shared with the people who meant the most to us.” Amy Cuss and Jack Anderson were married on 1 June 2019 in a ceremony held at St Augustine’s Church, Hamilton. “My great grandparents and grandparents were married at St Augustine’s so this was an easy decision for us. The interior of the church is gorgeous and the grounds are so beautiful. Our reception was held at The Landing at Dockside. We wanted somewhere that had an element of indoors and outdoors and potentially involved the river. ”

“One of the highlights of our wedding was the charted City Cat that took us from Bretts Wharf in Hamilton to Holman Street at Kangaroo Point. All our guests took the journey with us, enjoying sunset drinks and a cruise up the river. We were able to have some unique photos taken without having to leave our guests. Customised stubby coolers with our names and wedding date were our wedding favours, keeping everyone’s drinks cold during the cruise.” “We chose ‘I Will Spend My Whole Life Loving You’ by Imaginary Future for our first dance as the words simply resonated with us. We had an earlier dance in the evening that was an absolute highlight for us. Jack is a huge John Williamson fan and I asked our talented singer, Nick Koschel to learn ‘Raining On The Rock’ to surprise Jack. Whilst our guests were enjoying their main meal, Nick began to sing the song and Jack and I went to the dance floor. Jack absolutely loved the surprise.” “As cliché as it sounds, the absolute highlight of the day for me was saying our vows. Saying those words were, at the end of the day, why we were all there. Jack’s highlights included the City Cat journey, entering the reception to Paul Kelly’s ‘How To Make Gravy’ and our special moment shared dancing to one of his favourite songs.” “We honeymooned on Hamilton Island as I had always wanted to go to the Great Barrier Reef. With snorkelling, hiking, sailing and other activities on offer, it was the perfect honeymoon destination for us.” “Planning a wedding can be stressful. Don’t be afraid to delegate and ask for help. No matter what happens, you are marrying your best friend and the love of your life. It truly is the best day of your life!”

TRISH & RICH

1 March 2019, Brisbane QLD

“We met at high school in Somerset UK about 37 years ago. Rich was my younger brother’s best mate. I moved to Australia in 1988 and we lost contact, but thanks to social media we reconnected in 2008. We became close through our love of dogs and body building. Rich came to Australia for a visit in 2016 and we continued our friendship until he told me how he felt. We both knew where we wanted to be and Rich officially proposed in Thailand in February 2018. I went to the UK in July and then he moved to Australia on what was actually the 30th anniversary date of my arriving here. I was 49 and Rich 47 and neither of us had been married or intended to get married. We shocked a lot of people, especially our school friends who said it should have happened sooner as we are a ‘perfect match’.” Richard and Trisha Catley were married on 1 March 2019 at Mon Komo Hotel, Redcliffe. “We both love the water and went with a simple, yet elegant beach theme. Our Marriage Celebrant, David Pearce is a work colleague of Richard’s. They worked together for many years in the police force in London. It was great to have our ceremony conducted by someone who knew us both so well. It was the funniest ceremony ever and our photos are full of laughter!”

“I created the seating plan, place cards, wishing well and invitations using Etsy. My dress was from Jade Bridal and I wore earrings belonging to my grandmother and a necklace belonging to my other grandmother. My hair was styled by Reichen Hodsdon from Robert Hartley Hair who has been my hairdresser for over 30 years.” “The whole day was perfect! It was just how we had hoped. It was a laid back, fun, simple and relaxed day celebrating with our nearest and dearest. The highlight for us was seeing everyone having an amazing time and laughing the whole day. We continued the party in the hotel’s bar through to the early hours.” “We haven’t had our honeymoon yet but are planning for our first wedding anniversary to hire a camper for a week and go driving with our beautiful furbabies.” “Our advice for anyone planning their own wedding is to keep it simple. Do your research and do what you can yourself to save money. Remember it is your day! It was honestly the best day of our lives and was over so quickly, so cherish the day from start to finish.”

JAY & JAYDEN

26 October 2019, Montville QLD

“We met in Warwick. I had another wedding business and was an exhibitor at an event. Jayden was the local journalist covering the event. We became friends and over many years both in different relationships, we lost contact. Four years ago we found ourselves single and met up for a date and it all went from there.” “I (Jay) proposed. I had gone away for a week of ‘RnR’ in northern NSW in our caravan. Jayden and a few family and friends joined me at the end of the week. Everyone was teed up, except Jayden! The crew set up for me on the edge of the ocean between the rocks. Jayden being stubborn when I said, ‘Let’s go for a walk and meet everyone now the sun’s going down’ replied, ‘Oh do I have to?’ He finally agreed but wanted to wear his PJ’s. I managed to convince him to get changed. When we arrived, everyone was hiding but the hundreds of battery-operated candles signalled something was going on, and onto one knee I went. Popping the question, Jayden’s response was, ‘About time!’”

many suits delivered before deciding on a crystal-embossed suit. We brought elements of each other’s outfits into the overall theme. We wanted a big celebration with a relaxed vibe and elements of fun and theatrics. Instead of a flower girl we had a ‘lolly man’. He entered the chapel, stood at the front with an old school tape deck playing while he handed out lolly necklaces and wrist bands.” “I walked down the aisle with my mum and the doors closed. Then Jayden entered with a surprise train flowing from his shoulders like a prince. After we walked out of the chapel, Jayden’s grandmother ‘Kunchi’ performed a Native American smudging and blanket ceremony. During our reception, drag queens Shu Shu Fontana and Scarlett Fever performed to get the party started.” “Our highlight was how well it all came together. We received so many comments from our guests on how amazed they were by everything and how they loved the vibe we created in the space.”

Jay Bingle and Jayden Brown were married on 26 October 2019 in a ceremony at The Chapel Montville. Their reception was held in Poets Cafe.

“On our honeymoon we found ourselves standing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.”

“Jay based his whole outfit around gold snakeskin boots imported from the UK by Jeffery West. He was on the hunt for a blue suit to match (it had to be a particular blue) and gold accessories. Jayden wanted white for himself and had so

The Australian WEDDING BLANKET... the new traditional gift Melbourne based artisan Linda Reeve of The Flying Lamb is excited to announce the start of a new tradition in Australian weddings with the release of the Australian Wedding Blanket. Each intricately hand-stitched throw takes over three full days to complete. These blankets are a real labour of love, a unique gift that celebrates the lives of two people, stitching their families together, weaving in unconditional love and happiness for their future. The Australian Wedding Blanket is more than a pretty homewares accessory. Good luck and warm best wishes are crafted into each unique blanket. The blankets are made from sustainably grown cotton, Australian Merino wool and over 3000 sequins! The traditional story of love and life are woven into each stitch and begins with Merino detailing the journey of two souls side by side, promising their love and devotion. The twists and turns of their life are captured in the sequins, celebrating and sharing the ups and embracing the love during the downs. Fun and happiness are captured in the moments that make up a life, memories made, friends shared, the little ‘bits’ that decorate the fabric of our world. The simple cross stitch conjures feelings of home and the anticipation of marking off the days until the next big event. The abundance of life is gathered in lush bundles of Merino wool, pure and simple, full and rich with life. “The Australian Wedding Blanket has been a dream of mine for years and I am thrilled to finally see it launched, and see so many families starting a new tradition. The concept of storytelling through stitches has been around for as long as humans have been clothing themselves. With the Australian Wedding Blanket, I have been able to capture the concepts and techniques used for millennia and develop a product that real couples can use every day.” In many cultures, gifting the new couple with a wedding blanket is a tradition passed down through centuries. Traditionally it was mothers, sisters and aunties stitching their warmth, care, and love into the future life of the newlyweds. Family and generational connections, old wives’ tales, charms for luck, ribbons and fine needlework are the hallmarks of a traditional wedding blanket. Linda fell in love with this concept and designed the Australian Wedding Blanket for a new generation of families who value tradition and meaning, and who are looking for items that are more relevant to their lifestyle which also care for our earth. Natural, simple and practical are all hallmarks of Linda’s design ethos. Instagram @the.flying.lamb @australianweddingblanket Facebook @theflyinglambau www.theflyinglamb.com

SIMONE & JAYDEN 1 September 2019, Maleny QLD

Simone and Jayden met when they were work colleagues in the gold fields in Western Australia. “Jayden proposed on a weekend away in Margaret River. He planned a ‘Birthday Getaway’ which included lunch at Flutes Winery and on the way back to our chalet at Forest Rise, he stopped at the gazebo overlooking the lake and natural beauty of the private estate to take some selfies before dropping to one knee and asking me to marry him.” Simone Spriggs and Jayden Jones were married on 1 September 2019 at Weddings at Tiffanys, Sunshine Coast. “Our style was elegant with a French provincial setting and neutral tones which just about sums Tiffanys up and is why we fell in love with that location. We wanted to really encapsulate the space of the chapel and reception area with

its raw beauty and stunning views and not detract from it with ‘too much stuff ’. We had an elegant setting with beautiful floral arrangements and scatter rose petals down the aisle in our desired colour theme. Our reception area was decorated with floral centrepieces and candelabra.” “Our highlights were all the finer details, the setting, the views and having the best time at the most beautiful location with an intimate group of 22 family members and close friends.” “We spent our honeymoon in Greece, Croatia and Italy.” “Our advice to anyone planning a wedding from afar is to choose a venue like Weddings at Tiffanys. It was so much more simple than I imagined because of how helpful they were and their recommendations for suppliers.”
