Alix Arcalean and Cache Carpenter are a Tinder love story. Cache, a Hawaiian ocean lover and Alix, a Canadian mountain girl met on the famous online dating app. “Never did I think I’d meet the man of my dreams this way. I was in my last year of physiotherapy school at the University of Queensland doing an internship in Kona, Hawaii. With no expectation or intention of falling in love, I was showing my mum, who I hadn’t seen for quite some time, how our generation fall in love these days. With a quick swipe, I saw my Tinder in shining armor dropping into a wave. We matched, but I thought nothing of it. He messaged me a few times persisting I accept his offer of taking me on a date, but it didn’t happen. Long story short, It took me some time and some convincing but I finally went on a date with him. It was what some describe as love at first sight… or destiny. We flew back and forth between Hawaii, Canada and Australia to spend as much time as we could together. He is everything I imagined my husband to be and more. Thank you Tinder, you really outdid yourself!” “We were asked to do a photoshoot for a local photographer, Jodie Modric Photography on a picturesque mountain top on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It was absolutely stunning and prompted Cache to pop the question that evening on our nightly walk. It was dark out, I could barely see anything, but he got down on one knee. He didn’t have a ring because his father was handcrafting my ring in Hawaii. I laughed and told him to get up! I thought he was joking, but he stayed there confidently until I said ‘Yes!’.”

“Our incredibly talented Wedding Planner and Stylist, Danni from Elopements Noosa created a natural/rustic outdoor ceremony and reception on a private property at Lake MacDonald in the Noosa Hinterland. We both thrive in the outdoors being from Whistler, Canada and Kona, Hawaii. Without a doubt we wanted to get married with the birds chirping and breeze blowing and amongst nature’s beauty. Danni incorporated a lot of eucalyptus, wood, candles, hanging fabrics and fairy lights and Rebecca from Blooms of Noosa blew us away with our bouquet and arbour arrangements utilising magnificent natural Australian floral and fauna. It was exactly how we envisioned our dream day to be. Our amazing wedding team created a beautifully intimate and relaxed setting for our guests.” “One of the most magical moments was during the ceremony when Cache reached into his pockets to present the rings, however they weren’t there! Luna, a beautiful white barn owl, swooped down the aisle clawing a ring pouch and landed on Cache’s arm. You should have seen the awe on everyone’s faces as he took the rings from Luna and she flew away. Better yet, the rings were handcrafted by Cache’s father, Flint Carpenter who founded Big Island Jewels on the Big Island of Hawaii. These rings will be the last rings Flint will ever make in his 50 years as a goldsmith.”

“Some other highlights included our 16-foot canoe esky. Having grown up in Canada where there are more lakes than you can imagine, some of my fondest memories are of the vibrant red or forest-green canoes. We bought a battered canoe and spent weeks remodeling it into a gem! We used it as an open bar for our guests while they played lawn games and listened to live music. But the most spectacular highlight of our day was when our Celebrant, Adam Johnson – Marry Me Adam managed to connect 300 of our family and friends across the world to tune in via Zoom and witness our most amazing wedding day. The lengths he went to to ensure our loved ones were a part of our ceremony was above and beyond anything we could have imagined.” “Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to keep it simple. Simple is affordable and guests just want to feel the love and happiness you share! They won’t remember the gold forks you have on the table or a fancy 3 course dinner. It is incredibly helpful if you have an amazing team by your side that you trust will have everything under control, so you can enjoy your special day. With that in mind, I must give a special mention to my gorgeous, talented hair and make up artist, Deb from Beauty On The Move, for making me feel like the most beautiful bride in the world.” “Every day is a honeymoon where we live! Due to Covid, we haven’t been able to venture abroad for our actual honeymoon, but we plan to go to Africa on a safari. We definitely want to do something a little different than most honeymooners and go on an amazing adventure together.” “The world is a little upside down right now. We weren’t able to have our families and closest childhood friends by our side, but life must go on (and so must love)! There are many special ways of incorporating them into your special day, such as hosting a Zoom call during your ceremony or creating an intimate wedding. There are no rules. We plan to have another celebration of love when the world is healthy.”

Congratulations ANASTASIA & SERGIO 27 February 2021, Brisbane QLD

Anastasia Manias and Sergio Demetriou met at a party. “I moved from Greece to Australia and didn’t know many people, so my family friend took me to an 18th birthday party to meet some people. The older brother of the birthday boy had some great dance moves and made me laugh. That was Sergio and the rest is history.” “The proposal was arranged with the help of Sergio’s cousin who owns a wholefood store and calls on us to do photoshoots for the store. She organised a photoshoot at Hastings Point to throw me off guard. Little did I know, the photoshoot was a set-up to lead me down to the beach, where Sergio proposed. We celebrated with champagne and a cheese platter.”

“We had a Grecian, forest and wildflower theme. Deep green colours, vibrant flowers and rose gold steel arches and structures created the Grecian look. Our highlight was what we call ‘kefi’ in Greek, which translates to the overpowering joyous celebratory emotion in the room. The dancing, the speeches and the amazing feeling of seeing it all come together and finally getting married, after having to postpone our wedding twice.” “Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to start creating your inspiration boards early on and set one or two tasks per week. Take everything as it comes and enjoy this chapter of organising one of the best days of your life.” “We spent our honeymoon diving and snorkelling at Heron and Lady Elliot Island and then finished off by spending a few nights at Qualia on Hamilton Island.”

Congratulations LAURA & SAM 28 September 2020, Toowoomba QLD

Laura Johnson and Samuel Robinson met at university. “We were both studying to be music teachers. We had known each other for a while and were friends. In our final year of uni, we ended up spending more time together and our bond grew over time. I’m not really sure how it happened, but now we are happily married! I’m so lucky to spend my days with my favourite person!” The wedding theme was Boho with Moody Florals. “Our day started with myself and my bridesmaids getting ready at the Bridal Cottage, while Sam was at a house nearby with his groomsmen. Cassie from The Hair Artist Collective and Tyneale from Tyneale Hahn Makeup Artist came to the cottage to help get us ready. Our morning was relaxed and organised. Preston Peak Winery’s onsite cottage is exclusive to couples marrying at the venue. It is the sweetest little two-room cottage with everything you need to get ready for your day.”

“The bouquets, flower crowns, display blooms and table pieces were created by The Flower Grocer. The blooms set the colour palette as the girls all wore white. As the ceremony drew closer, the bridal party stood at the cellar door while Sam welcomed the guests and Laura took a peek through the window! Soon enough we were in the pavilion facing each other, ready to say ‘I do’. I couldn’t believe how fast that time went!” The string quartet played Sam’s sister’s own arrangement of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ as Laura walked down the aisle. As Laura and Sam are music teachers, this aspect was especially important. “Special mention to the band and quartet who incorporated our special songs into their set lists and wrote some arrangements at our request.” “When we saw each other, we were so happy! We couldn’t stop grinning and I couldn’t stop crying. They were of course VERY happy tears! We held each other close as our family friend, Yvonne married us and entertained our guests by replacing our names in a storybook called ‘I Love You Stinky Face.’”

Laura and Sam had their cocker spaniel, Sadie be part of the day. She was a little bit too excited about the ceremony and made it known to everyone. Apart from her occasional barking, the ceremony was beautiful and everything the couple had hoped it would be. “It was really important our animals were there on the day, so we made sure our dogs and our horse had front row seats!” Afterwards, the newlyweds and bridal party went with photographer, Graeme Passmore for a wander around the property to capture some beautiful memories. “Graeme did such an awesome job. It was so nice to have natural, candid photos in the moment while we enjoyed ourselves with our bridal party.” “We joined our guests at the cellar door with delicious food, speeches from our family and friends and our first dance. Unfortunately, noone else was allowed to dance but the live band was great and people could still enjoy the music! Due to Covid restrictions, the beautiful cake remained out of sight so it could be served. Many of our guests had special dietary requirements and the team at Preston went the extra mile for everyone to really enjoy their meals. Covid threw a few little adjustments our way. One member of the bridal party as well as family in NSW and Tasmania couldn’t attend due to border restrictions.” Laura’s favourite moment was when she finally made it to Sam at the end of the aisle! “I was so nervous before the wedding but it all melted away when I could finally hold his hand. I’ll never forget the huge grin on his face at that moment!” Sam’s favourite moment was seeing Laura for the first time as she came down the aisle. “She looked so happy, beautiful and radiant. Nothing else existed for me in that moment!”

Melissa Gannon and Jesse Batt met at a church convention. “Jesse proposed after a beautiful day trip in the Whitsundays. We were lucky enough to get married there later in the year.”

“Our theme was Classically Elegant, with as much greenery and flowers as possible. Bonnie Somers met Thomas Bradford at the Pig ‘N’ Whistle at a St Patrick’s Day event. “Tom accidentally knocked my drink out of my hand!” “The proposal happened during the first week of our year-long lap around Australia. I had accidentally reversed the car into a tree that morning! Tom took our dog Zeus to the beach to check the conditions. He came back to get me for a swim and as we were walking along the beach, he pointed to ‘Marry Me’ written in the sand. I turned around and he was on one knee. We kept it a secret for a month until we were driving past home and could tell our loved ones in person.”

“Our wedding theme was Camping Weekends! We wanted a laid-back event with lots of dancing. We invited all our friends and family to camp at Somerset Sunset and stick around for a big breaky in the morning. We had an amazing line up of suppliers and wouldn’t change a thing. We were married at our dream venue with the help of the most down-toearth Celebrant, incredible styling and delicious food. We are so grateful to everyone who made our day a reality. We want to give a huge shout out to our photographer, Jodie Modric and our videographers, Bent Film Co, who were such a good team and kept us laughing all day, even when the rain and hail set in. The best help of all was Moira Somers (Bon’s mum) who organised so much for us while we road-tripped around Australia. Our highlight was finally seeing all our family and friends in one place after a long year of Covid and lockdown... and dancing finally being legal again! Other highlights were Tom seeing me in my dress for the first time and hearing Tom’s vows.”

“Planning a wedding is stressful and planning one during the uncertainty of a pandemic is even tougher. The best advice we have is to remain positive, don’t sweat the small stuff and remember the most important thing is that you are about to marry the love of your life. On your wedding day and leading up to it, things can and will go wrong. We had storms and hail and at the end of the day, none of it matters. Just stay in the moment and make the most of it. We spent our honeymoon on Wilson Island, a private island off Heron Island which is a little slice of paradise.”

Rachel Horner met Genevieve Free in 2014 on a dating app. “The app ‘Brenda’ doesn’t seem to exist anymore. After our first date, we quickly made plans for a second... and third... and fourth date, all in the span of a week.”

“Gen proposed in early 2019. We had travelled down to Brisbane for a friend’s birthday. On Saturday morning, I woke up to a rainy day and Gen was strangely insistent on going for a walk. Her dog, Sassy, wanted to head back home before we’d even entered the bush! Luckily we continued and halfway through our walk, Gen stopped on a hill and said how much she loved me (and I still didn’t catch on somehow). Gen went down on one knee and asked me to marry her. So it was pretty low-key but totally perfect. We were just walking along holding hands, hanging out with Sassy and having a good morning. She caught me completely by surprise!” “Our wedding theme is probably best described as Garden/Romantic. However, when planning we really leaned into the things we love and who we are for inspiration, which is how we got to dinosaurs hiding in the centre pieces and an owl flying in with the rings!” “I loved sneaking peeks at everything throughout the morning, watching our beautiful arbour being put together and peeking into our reception to see the centre pieces coming together and everything getting set up. One of our absolute favourite moments was during our cake cutting when we had fireworks go off behind us. We watched everyone’s surprised faces and had a little boogie to ‘Heaven is a Place on Earth’ while all our loved ones clapped along. It was definitely a highlight having Luna the owl fly in to deliver our rings! Gen especially loved that we were able to dance and just being able to celebrate with our loved ones was its own kind of magic. We are very aware of just how blessed we were to get married with our friends and family there to witness it.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t be afraid to do what makes you happy and don’t feel like you have to partake in any traditions you don’t want to. The thought of our first dance in front of everyone was making us nervous so about a week before the wedding, we just decided not to do it. Instead we opened the dance floor with a first dance with everyone and it was one of my favourite moments! We had our first dance in private in the gardens, under fairy lights, with just our photographer and got to have that beautiful moment that we personally would have struggled to enjoy with everyone watching on. My other big piece of advice is to hire vendors you trust and listen to their advice! All of our vendors had amazing ideas and kept everything running so smoothly. We had a magical day with little to no stress (and planning was a breeze too!). We are so grateful for our amazing wedding day and can’t thank our vendors enough!” “For our honeymoon, we went on a road trip up the Queensland coast to Cairns and Port Douglas, stopping along the way wherever took our fancy! We snorkelled the reef, saw kangaroos on the beach at sunrise, went to aquariums and animal sanctuaries, went to arcades, walked in the rainforest, swam in creeks, ate so much delicious food and sang along loudly and badly in the car. We had a blast!”

Conversation started off slow, even so it was love at first sight! He was the perfect man in my eyes. Little did we know that those moments we spent together at camp would lead to a journey of a lifetime together.” “The proposal was perfect in every way. Fineas had planned to take me horse riding along the beach at Byron Bay for sunset on 29 January 2020. Little did I know that two kilometres up the beach, he had organised a beautiful arbour wrapped in fairy lights and photos of our memories together leading up to that point in time. He helped me off my horse and led me down a path of rose petals and candles leading up to the arbour and then proposed.”

Brooke Adams and Simon Lake met online. “Simon was living in Melbourne at the time and travelled to Brisbane regularly for work. We chatted a lot online but never met up while he visited Brisbane. He was eventually transferred here for work and we had our first date. It was definitely love at first sight.” “Simon proposed to me in Bali in March 2019. We were having a romantic dinner and halfway through our meal, Simon got down on one knee and proposed. He totally caught me off guard.”

“We had an elegant rustic theme. Walking down the aisle with my dad was such a special moment. Our ceremony was filled with so much love. We had a smaller wedding due to Covid. Our friends and family from overseas and Melbourne who were unable to attend were able to watch the ceremony virtually via a live stream. Our loved ones from around the world put together videos of well wishes which we played during our reception. That was very special and meant so much to us. We had an almond cookie cake on display and two large slabs of the cookie cake to serve to our guests. Due to Covid restrictions, we either had to have a clear cover over the cake or have a cutting/display cake and a kitchen cake to serve to guests. Chris Glancy and Ian Shaw are a facebook love story success. “We met on a facebook app in 2007 and haven’t looked back.” Ian surprised Chris with a weekend away in a luxury hotel on the Gold Coast on their third anniversary. He secretly organised a couple of days away from the office for Chris, packed and hid an overnight bag in the boot and drove on what Chris thought was a short day trip together. Ian even organised for their fur-children to be collected after they left the house and looked after for a few nights without Chris knowing. Just before leaving the hotel suite for dinner, Ian produced a pair of interlocking jigsaw puzzle necklaces for them to wear instead of traditional engagement rings. “Although Chris’ first reaction was, ‘Are you serious?, it quickly became a resounding ‘Yes’, followed by many, many tears of joy. Our engagement in 2010 was quickly followed by an incredible engagement party with family and friends while we patiently awaited Marriage Equality. Good things come to those who wait!”

“Planning a wedding during a global pandemic was certainly not without stress! We married at the stunning High Church in Fortitude Valley. Our wedding theme was Modern Romantic Luxe. We’d discussed a long table wedding beneath the stars on a vineyard in the Hunter Valley, but we also loved the hustle of modern city life. When we discovered the amazing Moreton Bay Figs by Autumn Grove, we quickly realised that we could have the best of both worlds. One of our favourite Brisbane restaurants, Rogue, had an incredible event space next door at The Refinery, which was a blank space where we achieved the Hunter Valley vibes we craved. We found and engaged suppliers that paired with the Refinery’s fit out, softening the room, introducing romance and luxury, whilst retaining a masculine and modern edge.” “After 13 years together, to finally, legally be married was always going to be our highlight! However, there wasn’t a single moment that was a highlight. The day was a series of highlights. From chilling with our crew in the morning, to seeing each other’s beaming smile at the ceremony; our friends and families support, laughter and tears. Our puppies involvement as ring bearers and our beautiful diamond wedding rings; our live painter at the reception, our first dance, incredibly heartfelt speeches, the most delicious wedding food you could imagine, and the insanely intimate reception space that we created with artificial Moreton Bay Fig trees and theming. After the reception, we were whisked away to our hotel where we continued the celebration with our guests over espresso martini’s - not wanting the best day of our lives to end!” “Our day was a very long time coming. We were fortunate with what we were able to achieve, which realised all of our hopes and dreams - we wouldn’t change or add a thing. Courtney Crabtree and Jasmine Ivett met at work. Courtney proposed to Jasmine. “It was a weekend-long event, starting with a dinner and movie date on the Friday evening. Initially the idea was to re-enact the first date, minus the mishaps, however due to the rain, wet-weather plans were initiated. Sienna was dropped off for a play with her cousin Abbie and Courtney asked Jasmine to close her eyes until arrival at the destination. With eyes closed, Jasmine was escorted out of the car to the doorway of Courtney’s home, where Jasmine was greeted with sounds of her favourite songs and a fairy-light pathway leading to a picnic rug laid out with carefully selected drinks and nibbles. Dancing, dancing and more dancing occurred when finally, the song Courtney was going to propose to, was played. Down on one knee, she asked Jasmine to be her fiancee and she said ‘YES’. Sienna was dropped off to share in the love and Courtney gave Sienna a ring of her own as a symbol of her commitment to us as a family. On arrival back at Jasmine’s home, a prearranged party of immediate family members was waiting to celebrate with dinner and cake. It was a memorable evening.”

“Our wedding inspiration was ‘Follow Your Heart’. Some of our highlights were the first glimpse at the end of the aisle, exchanging rings and our first kiss as a married couple. Other highlights were signing our ‘We are a Family’ certificate with our daughter, getting to celebrate with family and our amazing end of day/evening photo shoot with Sam Wyper Photography. Sam was an exceptional choice of photographer and we highly recommend him.” “Our advice for others planning their wedding is to enjoy every moment. Don’t get too worked up over small things and make sure you have someone who can direct you and the wedding on the day so all you have to do is be present and in the moment.” “We spent our honeymoon at Kingscliff, 250m down the road, at an Airbnb.”
