Welcome to the 32nd annual Northwest New Works Festival! Over these first two weeks of June, performers from Seattle, Portland, Boise, and Vancouver, BC will present new material in the fields of dance, music, theater, dance/theater, performance art, and just plain weird stuff. It’s important that performers not only continue to push their own boundaries and the boundaries of what performance is, but that they then have an opportunity to showcase this to the public. On the Boards has had an ongoing commitment to fostering artists willing to take this chance. But the other people who need to be willing to take a chance are the ones in the audience. The artists will put it out there - but there needs to be someone watching and listening and responding to what they do. Thanks for taking a chance on new work! We wouldn’t still be doing this for over 30 years without your support! Charles Smith Director of Program Management & Audience Services

Faith Helma I HATE POSITIVE THINKING Created and performed by Faith Helma Bios ABOUT FAITH HELMA: I am an artist who creates and performs solo and with Hand2Mouth in Portland. In the last year, I have also started a Creative Guide practice (it’s like a life coach + art teacher, you can read more about it at faithhelma.com). Anyway, but before all that business I made a bunch of shows, including Pep Talk, Something’s Got Ahold of My Heart, Repeat After Me and Undine, all of which made their debut at NW New Works. This performance received some funding from Puffin Foundation West. Hand2Mouth and Shout House generously donated time and space for rehearsal. If I lived in Sweden, I would also thank the federal, state or local government for covering the cost of childcare, but no.

Special thanks to Jen Mitas, Heather-Rose Pearson, John Berendzen, Erin Leddy, Liz Hayden, Julie Hammond, Maesie Speer, Jerry Tischleder, Emily Stone, Lena Munday and Matt Dieckman for insight and ideas. And an extra special HELL YEAH to Jonathan Walters for support both artistic and familial, and to the amazing Waylo.
