RESORT ACTIVITIES WELCOME BACK!

The Desert Sun

DESERT SHADOWS

We had a great start this October as we roll right into November with even more exciting activities. Everyone here at Desert Shadows would like to welcome home our new and returning residents. Feel free to stop by the activities office and join our wonderful team of volunteers, purchase dance tickets, or just to say hello, we love to hear from you. WELCOME BACK DINNER: Our Welcome Back Dinner will be Wednesday, November 12th at 5:30PM in the front auditorium. There will be a signup sheet posted in the front lobby. Tables will be set for 16 people. Please signup for a table and list the item you plan to bring. This is important, as the food provided by the guests at each table will be what you eat along with the main course that is provided by Desert Shadows. Due to popular request there will be no grazing permitted. THANKSGIVING DINNER: Once the Welcome back dinner signup is taken down the Thanksgiving Dinner sign up sheet will be posted. Tables will be set up in the same manner, with 16 people and listing food item they will bring Desert Shadows providing the turkeys. Both dinners require you to bring your own table service and beverages. Coffee and tea provided. We also need volunteers to cook and carve turkeys. If interested see activity office.

ACTIVITIES OFFICE HOURS

BREAKFAST AND COFFEE: Our first pancake breakfast is November 15th. Come on down and enjoy all the pancakes you can eat for just $4. Tickets go on sale that morning from 8:15 to 9:15. You can find FREE coffee and $.75 donuts in the main auditorium on Saturday, November 1st, 8th, 22nd, & 29th. The month of November has blessed us with five Saturdays, so spend those Saturday mornings with good friends and a good breakfast. WEEKLY ACTIVITIES: Just a reminder, our full slate of weekly activities has not fully resumed, as we eagerly await the return of key members of our volunteer team. For a list of current activities and to stay informed of new activities as they are added, keep an eye on the bulletin boards in the lobby. POT LUCK LUNCH: Make sure to join us for our pot lunch Thursday, November 6th in the front auditorium. You can find a signup sheet in the front lobby. New WIFI Internet As many of you know, we have upgraded to a new WIFI internet system throughout Desert Shadows. The new system is called “LINK-N-GO” and we have nine tower antennas mounted on streetlights. The strength of signal at your space will depend somewhat on your location, but the new company that installed the system says it should work much better than our old system. Also, for the next few months we are offering a free trial of it. Each day you can log on and use it for 1/2 hour for free. Then, after 24 hours you can use it again for 1/2 hour for free. This way you can test the signal and speed and see if you like it. If you do like it, you can sign up for daily, weekly or monthly rate plans. You sign up and pay right on the LINKnGO website, no need to come to the office. To use it, just connect to one of the “LINKnGO” signals that are displayed on you computer under the available wireless networks section. A start up page should then open automatically, or if not, try and open your internet browser. Please let us know how the system works for you so we can continue to improve it and see if there are certain areas with poor reception. Also, if you need large amounts of bandwidth or superfast internet speeds, you may want to sign up for cable internet through Cox Communications. Each user on our new WIFI system will be limited to 5 mbps download and 1 mbps upload. Of course, we always have the free WIFI in our lobby and in the computer room for your to use as well.
