New York. No other place even comes close when it comes to basketball flavor. You can feel the unique basketball culture of the cit y on virtually every corner. More players, more my ths, more skill, more expertise, more vibe, more blood, sweat and tears than anywhere else. Simply put, it’s the Nation of Hoop’s capital. K1X has a healthy tradition of teaming up with inner-cit y tourna ments like ”Together We Chill” (Harlem), ”Lower Ma nhat ta n Cla ssic” (LES), ”Hoops in the Sun” (Bronx), ”Kingdome” (Harlem) and ”Watson” (Bronx). Two summers ago, we captured that vibrant streetball scene on film in what I like to call a ”love let ter to NYC hoops”. Make sure to look up the clip on Vimeo: ”Red Cafe – Heart Soul”. And that’s where our friend Kevin Couliau comes in. He’s a french ball player and streetball activist and documentarist, who filmed the aforementioned clip and recently made a huge splash with the streetball documentary ”Doin’ it in the Park”, which he directed alongside Bobbito Garcia. Great stuff! Of course, Kev was the perfect guy to shoot this catalogue. Dude knows every court in the cit y. (And he ca n hit the open jumper a ny time a ny place). We ma ke it a point to include the fa m ( a lways closely involved in the creation of a new collection) in our shoots, so Tom and Tith were obvious choices. El (which is short for Elevator) is the coolest cat ever. And he ca n jump to the moon, which makes him a perfect testimonial for our new performance shoe ”Anti-Gravit y”. We flew him in from Georgia. Of course, we knew he wa s going to lose his money a nd his keys (which he did), and be late for every single appointment (which he was). But El is El. We became friends when we shot the infamous Team Flight Brothers look book in Florida, back in 2008. The other guys you see on the following pages are a sk ater/ baller friend of Tith’s called Jonathan, as well as a bunch of great ballplayers, who were mostly introduced to us by
Brian ”Smokin Aces” Kortovic. Brian, a lightning quick guard who has played professionally in top leagues all over the world, was thiiis close to signing a contract with the Knicks la st summer. Didn’t work out (but we’re rooting for you, buddy!). As you may or may not know, we recently signed the NBA’s most spectacular leaper, James White of the NY Knicks. He is capable of violating the free throw line with two handed windmills, like MJ, the Doctor and B-Double could only have dreamed of. But we shot this look book in October, back before we knew James would join us - that’s why he’s not in this book, just in ca se you were wondering. Now, let’s talk about the upcoming spring/summer collection for a second. It’s our best effort yet. But then again, I always say tha t, so I’ll let you be the judge of tha t. Still, the following products probably deserve special mention: a wide array of a ll-over printed cot ton ta nk tops – ”The Fra nchise Series” – the Flamingo Series – our newest invention: ”Roll-Up Practice Shorts”, which adapt the look of cropped chino shorts for the courts – short sleeved chambray shirts a nd Oxford ”Ca li’s” – two killer designs by Parisian artist ”Lil Thugs” – a flock of gna rly sna pba ck ca ps – a nd some new footwea r including ”the ”Schn1tzel” (because it’s that good) a nd – af ter three yea rs in the ma king a nd countless tests with over 30 pro ba llers – FINALLY – our best-ever performa nce shoe, the ”Anti-Gravit y”, which we just dropped in six monochrome colors.
