The initiatives are inspected annually to ensure they are well managed, and any trees that do not survive are replaced. This process also guarantees that all the trees have been planted and cared for.

There is also a significant potential for expanding the eco-tourism industry. Preserving and restoring the Laguna Brava Cuenca will ensure the health and sustainability of this growing industry, creating new and diverse economic opportunities while preserving one of the most pristine and unique ecosystems in Guatemala.

Trees were divided among the members of the communities and planted on their pots of land. While the focus is to prevent further deforestation and restore Laguna Brava's shores and hillsides, the project also supports agroforestry initiatives over a large area of the Cuenca and surrounding Ethnic Chuj communities. These initiatives will substantially increase the economic security of the local communities. People can participate in the "Pro Bosque" National Forestry program and receive financial compensation for their forestry initiatives, which have created future opportunities to participate in Carbon Sequestration programs.
