伊東 豊雄 נולד בסיאול להורים יפנים בשנת .1941 בוגר המחלקה לאדריכלות באוניברסיטת טוקיו.1965 , אדריכל בעל אופי חדשני ונועז בכל פרויקט ,אין לו קו אסטטי אחיד או קונספט מרכזי ובכל פעם הוא מפתיע מחדש לשמחת הקהילה האדריכלית ולעיתים על חשבון העצבים הרצוצים של הלקוחות.

伊東 豊雄 בראשית דרכו עסק בעיקר בתכנון בתים פרטיים .דרכם ניסה לבחון את האדריכלות כ"מלבוש" הדיירים ולמצוא את האיזון שבין החיים הפרטיים בבית לבין החיים הציבוריים המתרחשים בעיר. לדבריו" ,אדריכלות צריכה לעקוב אחרי השונות של החברה ולשקף אותה .זה דבר ששום צורה ריבועית לא יכולה להכיל". בשנות ה 80-החל לתכנן גם פרויקטים גדולים יותר, במקביל להוראה באוניברסיטת טוקיו.

伊東 豊雄 בשנים אלה התעסק איטו רבות עם רעיון ה"נוודות העירונית" ,ששאל מעבודותיהם של הפילוסופים ז'יל דלז' ופליקס גוואטרי. להבנתו ,ערים יפניות כגון טוקיו מתפקדות כ"מכוונות רצונות" ומעודדות את תושביהן לחלוף ממוקד משיכה אחד למשנהו בתנועה בלתי פוסקת. באופן פרדוקסלי ,דווקא המושג הפרימיטיבי של "נוודות" מתאר בצורה הטובה ביותר את החיים בעידן הדיגיטלי.

ה Mediatheque-משמש אכסניה לסוגי המדיה השונים ,בנוי כפלאזה מרוחקת מהחיים היום-יומיים בעיר. בניין בן 7קומות המכיל ספריות ,חדרי הרצאות ומחשבים ,גלריות וקפיטריה. צירוף פרוגרמות מרתק המבקש לענות על צורכי המשתמש העירוני בעידן המידע. מבנה ציבורי בעל חשיבות סמלית ,שוכן בקרבת תחנת הרכבת ופתוח לקהל 7ימים בשבוע עד חצות. מבנה בעל קונסטרוקציה שלא נראתה בעבר .הרצפות עשויות לוחות מתכת משובצים בבטון. המבנה כולו מוחזק ע"י 13פירים עשויים פלדה שזורה .אלה מכילים את מערכות התנועה והתקשורת ומספקים לבניין את כוחו הקונסטרוקטיבי.

המראה המתקבל הוא יער של עצים המתרוממים לכל אורכו של הבניין. הקומות מתאפיינות בתוכנית פתוחה וזורמת .חזית הזכוכית הכפולה משקפת הן המתרחש בתוך הבניין והן את ההתרחשות העירונית ,יוצרת תחושה דינמית ו"נוזלית".
