Story by: Dr. Sophie Illustration by: Kaz Takahashi & Edmund Fung

What happens to the food we eat?

Let’s taste it!

Yummy food!

I chewed it and swallowed it.

All gone!

Where has the food gone? Put this page against the window to see where the food has gone!

Mouth

Stomach Small Intestine Large Intestine

In the mouth we chew the food. With our teeth we cut it into smaller pieces. With the tongue we taste if it is sweet or salty.

Then we swallow and the food goes down a long tube!

In the stomach, food is broken down into even smaller bits and mixed with stomach juice. In the intestines, the digestion is completed so the food is now small enough to be used by the body. The food then travels in the blood all around the body to help us grow and to give us energy. The bits we don’t need continue through the long tube and end up as poo.

Seek. Locate.

Can you find where foxy is? What would you like to eat from this feast table?

Some energy food? Some fruits and vegetables?

Some proteins? We need all of them!

Mr. Poo

Hello I am Mr. Poo! Mr. Poop if you prefer. You can call me doo doo too that would be nice. Story & Illustration by: Miqui Viars

I am so lonely‌ everybody goes away when I am around. I don’t understand why.

I was made from all those nice things. So what happens when I go through the body? Why do I smell so bad at the end?

‘I am so sad, I would love to have some friends,’ cries Mr. Poo.

Ugh!

Pooh....

Phew... What’s that smell?

yuk ! yuk! I smell bad Along comes Mr. Manure. ‘Don’t be sad, Mr. Poo,’ he said, ‘come with me, we have a job to do.’

Mr. Manure and Mr. Poo go and make friends with the flowers…

‘I am so happy’ shouts Mr. Poo. I can make the flowers grow!

Let’s make a Mini Garden First you need to collect little things to make a mini garden: leaves, twigs, moss, soil, seeds, wood… Find a tray or a flat cardboard box. Line it with a plastic bag if it is a cardboard box. Spread some gravel at the bottom of the box and cover with soil.

Then install your garden: To create the illusion of a river, add some pebbles or small rocks and lay a small piece of wood over them to make a bridge. Add some twigs, moss and leaves to have a wild corner. Try to plant some cress or bean seeds in the soil, and see them grow – You will have your very own vegetable patch! Last but not least, don’t forget to water your garden, but not too much!

Sukie the Cat and the Magic Paintp Story & Illustration by: Les and Tots

There was a rumble in Sukies tummy. She was feeling hungry. ‘Mmm… if only I could paint myself a tasty snack,’ thought Sukie.

Sukie drifted off into a cat nap, dreaming of painting.

Sukie was back in the magical garden with her friends.

Sukie picks the red paintpot off the Magic Paintpot Tree. What tasty snack shall I paint with this lovely red paint?’ asked Sukie.

pot Tree

‘I know,’ chirped Lolobird. ‘ What about a field of red lollipops?’

‘But that would be no good for our teeth or your beak!’ replied Sukie.

‘I would love to paddle in a river of strawberry laces,’ said Dottydog

No that will not do, they are so gooey they will stick to my teeth,’ said Sukie

Tedsnail enjoyed munching on healthy fruits and vegetables. He had a much better idea and he told Sukie.

Sukie painted a big bowl of strawberries.

There was enough for everyone.

Suddenly Sukie woke up from her catnap.

She noticed her paws were stained red and she no longer felt hungry. I wonder what happened? Do you know?

HUNGRY Grumble, rumble in my belly – Got to gobble cream and jelly. Need to feed my hungry tum – Munch an apple, scoff a plum! Bread and honey, buttered toast, Mashed potatoes, chicken roast. Stuffed to bursting now, I think, “I’m so dry I need a drink.” Cool, transparent, in my cup, Water, water – drink it up. Slurp and glug and gulp and sigh ‘Could just fit in a slice of pie…’ Greedy guzzler, stomach tight A gentle walk may make it right… Gurgle, mumble, have a rest Then your tummy can digest.
