Hello OKIDO readers! Time to get active, flex, jump and run. This issue of OKIDO is all about muscles and movement. It is yours to read, have fun and draw on.

The athletes are late for the olympics. Can you help them find their way?

Story & Illustration by: Rachel Ortas

One day, my brother and I had nothing, nothing to do. When suddenly...

‘Hello! Come and play with me,’ said Messy Monster.

Look! We can be acrobats!

Look! I can dance!

Look!

We can jump, roly poly, somersault, catch a ball.

Run, run...

‘I am quicker,’ said Messy Monster. ‘I am the best.’

‘I won the race. I am a champion.’

‘Never mind, Messy Monster. What we like to do is to play.’

Our questions with

Story by: Dr. Sophie Illustration by: The Okido Team

How do we move?

Do we have cogs like a wind-up robot? Do we have a string like a puppet?

What is inside us pulling our bones?

What makes us move?

Put this page against the window to see all the muscles.

Let’s have a look inside your body!

We have lots of muscles! 600 of them!

Try to move every bit of your body. It’s all the muscles which are pulling the bones and making us move!

There are lots of muscles in our face. They make us smile, frown, look angry, bored or mischievous.

We have many muscles that help us move, dance and jump. Can you feel the muscle in your arm getting big when you flex it? Can you feel the muscles in your leg when you move your foot?

Some muscles move all the time without us knowing it. Can you hear your heart? The heart is a muscle. It makes our blood move in the body.

Can you hear your stomach? Our stomach is a muscle as well. It is squashing our food. Can you hear it rumbling?
