ANNUAL MEETING 2024 An Invitation from the ODA President It is my pleasure to extend a warm invitation to you to participate in the upcoming Oklahoma Dental Association Annual Meeting, scheduled to take place at the Oklahoma City Convention Center April 11-13, 2024. I am excited to share that this year’s conference promises to be an enriching and rewarding experience for all attendees. The event co-chairs, Dr. Jennifer Jenkins and Dr. Sara Spurlock, have worked to get some of the most well-known and engaging speakers from around the country and from within Oklahoma for you and your team to learn from this year. There truly is something for everyone. This year, we’ve made all the social events free to attendees, added a second Lunch and Learn, and tightened up the schedule so you can hear from as many of the speakers as possible. As you know, the ODA Annual Meeting serves as a platform for dental professionals from across the state to come together, exchange knowledge, and explore the latest advancements in the field of dentistry. 2024 ODA Annual Meeting

SPEAKERS

Parul Dua Makkar, DDS

Dr. Parul Dua Makkar completed her Bachelor of Science from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1999, Magna Cum Laude, and then attained her DDS from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 2003. She completed a GPR training at Staten Island University Hospital in 2007 and has been in private practice in New York since. She owns PDM Family Dental in Long Island, NY, where she resides with her husband and two boys. Dr. Makkar’s life took a different trajectory when she lost her only and younger sibling, Dr. Manu Dua, to oral cancer last year. He was a dentist, as well. Since his death, she devotes her time educating doctors and patients alike about risk factors, prevention and advocating for early diagnosis of oral cancer. She has co-authored several dental journals, presented lectures to dentists, has been a guest at several podcasts, and hosted her own podcast. She believes oral care is the gateway to overall wellbeing and aims to have open conversations with her patients. She is currently serving as a Wellness Ambassador to the American Dental Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. Irene Iancu, RDH, CTDP

Irene is a practicing dental hygienist and orofacial myologist who founded and owns Toothlife Studio in Toronto. She is a theoretical and clinical educator at Oxford College, international speaker, author, podcaster, and social media expert. Irene is a peer and quality assurance mentor contracted by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, a writer for The National Board of Dental Hygiene Examination and a regular contributor to Oral Hygiene Magazine. She originally graduated with a political science degree but changed course after completing the dental hygiene program in 2007 from Oxford College. Her greatest passion is working with children and orthodontists to retrain facial muscles in order to break damaging habits. Judy Kay Mausolf is a speaker, author, and dental culture specialist with expertise in helping others get happier and more successful! Melissa Seibert, DMD

Dr. Melissa Seibert is a dentist proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force and is the creator and host of the top clinical dental podcast, Dental Digest, which helps dentists to stay on the cutting edge of evidence-based dentistry. Dr. Seibert is the deputy program director of the AEGD at Langley AFB and Clinical Instructor at Creighton University School of Dentistry. She is a key opinion leader, consultant, and author of numerous articles and lectures to national and international audiences. Her specialties include restorative dentistry, adhesive dentistry, digital dentistry, and prevention. Dr. Seibert founded the Advanced Interdisciplinary Mastermind – a study club comprised of top-tier clinicians. She received her Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry at the University of Louisville. Prior to that, she received her Bachelor of Science degree and commission as an Officer in the United States Air Force from the U.S. Air Force Academy. Jennifer Jenkins, DDS

Dr. Jennifer Jenkins and Dr. Sara Spurlock became friends at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. While their paths initially went in different directions, in 2014 Jennifer joined Sara in Norman and they began cultivating their dental practice. Both doctors are committed to advancing their profession through science and have achieved this by dedicating themselves to continuing their education. In 2022, Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Spurlock graduated from the prestigious, world-renowned Kois Center in Seattle, WA. Their experience and knowledge gained at Kois, enabled them to implement a successful periodontal program and they have found fulfillment in partnering with patients to effectively treat periodontal disease and have realized genuine success in improving the health of their patients. It was at the Kois Center where their passion for oral integrative medicine was ignited.

Sara Spurlock, DDS

In their free time, both doctors have obligations to their profession serving as President and Vice President of the Central District, co-lead triage for the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy and serve on boards for the Oklahoma Dental Association and Board of Dentistry. Dr. Jenkins is active in the Sooner Rotary Club of Norman, OK serving as president during 2022-2023, and Dr. Spurlock serves on the Norman Regional Hospital Foundation Board. Both doctors serve on the Children’s Hospital Foundation Board. In addition to dedication to their patients, practice, community, and profession, Drs. Jenkins and Spurlock are dedicated to their families. Dr. Jenkins and her husband, Justin, have two children, Jase and Jax. Dr. Spurlock and her husband, Jay, have three children Anna, Will and John Henry.

Dunn Cumby, DDS, MPH

Dr. Dunn Cumby attended the University of Oklahoma for his undergraduate degree and continued on to earn his MPH and DDS, also from the University of Oklahoma. He was the first black man to graduate from OU’s College of Dentistry in 1976 – the same year he founded his private dental practice and became a faculty member at the school. Dr. Cumby worked as the division head in community dentistry at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry for more than 43 years and oversaw the Community Dental Health Coordinator Pilot Training Program. Dr. Cumby sold his practice and retired from full time work in 2019 but continues to teach Introduction to Ethics at the College of Dentistry today. In addition to his dental career, Dr. Cumby is an ordained deacon for the Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, a 4th Degree Black Belt, and a World Taekwondo referee. * Breakfast & Learn: Ethics (2 hours CE) Saturday, April 13 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. * This is a ticketed event. Carolyn Kittell, DDS

Dr. Carolyn Kittell is an expert in complex restorative and cosmetic dentistry and owner of a thriving private practice, Smile Essentials outside of Denver in Greenwood Village, CO. She received her Bachelors in Business Administration, Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene and Doctor of Dental Surgery all from the University of Oklahoma. She is a dedicated knowledge seeker, and through her practice’s transition from analog to digital, she has created a state-of-the-art, in-house dental lab. Dr. Kittell has developed 3DFreeForm, a direct composite technique that incorporates digital smile design, 3D printing and composite techniques for beautiful direct composite restorations. J. Eric Hopkins, DDS

Dr. J. Eric Hopkins has been performing general dentistry in Shawnee, Oklahoma since receiving his DDS from the University of Oklahoma in 1989, and he has been performing advanced dental implant procedures since completing the AAID Maxicourse in New York, NY in 1999. He achieved board certification with the ABDS in 2018 following successful completion of the oral and written examinations for the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID) the same year. Dr. Hopkins is a Diplomate of the ABOI and a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He teaches various aspects of implant dentistry, from simple to complex, through Hopkins Implant Institute as well as the L-PRF class for accreditation of dental auxiliaries and serves as the Director of the AAID Maxicourse Oklahoma City.

2024 ODA Annual Meeting Brian Baliwas, DDS

SPEAKERS

Dr. Brian Baliwas received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Davis, followed by his doctorate in dentistry from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, where he graduated with high honors. He is also a graduate of the Kois Center, which is focused on Advancing Dentistry through Science. He has received several awards for his outstanding clinical work in the areas of esthetic dentistry, oral implantology, restorative dentistry, and endodontics. Dr. Baliwas teaches part-time at the University of the Pacific Dental School in the Department of Integrated Reconstructive Dental Sciences, where he inspires his students to maintain a high level of commitment, passion, and pride in their dental work. Outside of the office, Dr. Baliwas enjoys traveling, working out, kayaking, gardening, collecting sneakers, and golfing. Lauren Lunday, DDS

Dr. Lauren Lunday is an Oklahoma native who obtained her undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of Oklahoma. She completed a surgical internship at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and her residency training at Nova Southeastern University/Broward Health Medical Center/Memorial Regional Hospital System in South Florida. While at Nova, she was awarded the distinguished honor of “2016 Resident of the Year” by her colleagues, and also served as the Resident Organization of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons liaison. She was also a recipient of the AAOMS scholarship for Resident Education and the Philip J. Boyne Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Lunday is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. She serves as a mentor for the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry and is a member of the American Dental Association, Oklahoma Dental Association, and the Oklahoma Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Lunday is a clinical assistant professor for the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at OU COD and the OMS residency training program. Dr. Lunday is active staff at Baptist Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, and OU Health as well as serving on various committees for the Board of Dentistry. Dave Bolin

Dave Bolin is the founder and owner of Armor CPR in Oklahoma City. With more than 20 years of EMS experience as an EMT and firefighter paramedic, Dave and his team provide professional training, AEDs, first aid equipment and the confidence to help save a life. Kelly McClure, RDH Kelly McClure graduated from Coastal Bend College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She has practiced hygiene for 23 years with the mission to establish trust with her patients and create systems and protocols to grow the hygiene department. Kelly, along with two other hygienists, co-founded a consulting company called Hygiene Solution to help doctors and practices understand their potential and increase revenue without compromising patient care. After her time with Hygiene Solution, Kelly joined Align Technology as a Digital Adoption Specialist. In this role, she works with teams to implement the Align Digital Platform and is particularly passionate about helping dental professionals transform their approach to patient education. Kelly and her husband, Steve, have two children, Abby and Jackson. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and cheering on the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, where her daughter Abby recently started attending college.

Ashley Sutherland

Ashley Sutherland grew up in NW Oklahoma, and at a young age she knew she wanted to pursue a career in the dental field. After high school, she pursued her passion by enrolling in the dental assisting program at Platt College and has now been in the dental field for over 18 years. During that time, she became an iTero mentor with Heartland Dental where she taught other offices how to educate their patients on the importance of health and occlusion. Because of her expertise in scanning, she became a DA mentor for two years before joining Align Technology to continue her passion of helping dental teams fully implement digital scanners. Sheila Todd Sheila Todd is an Infection Control Consultant and Regional Account Manager for Hufriedy Group, where she has worked for more than nine years. She was previously a Senior Territory Manager for Dentsply Sirona. Sheila attended the University of Oklahoma, and is a dental speaker, consultant, and educator. She is passionate about the importance of infection control, patient and provider safety, and water quality. In her session, Sheila hopes to share strategies that maximize efficiency while maintaining safe and healthy patient experiences.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS Please note: ODA’s Annual Meeting CE credits are not PACE or CERP certified, although they are compliant with all rules governing those programs. The Oklahoma State Board of Dentistry has pre-approved all ODA Annual Meeting courses, and courses will count toward continuing education for licensure in the State of Oklahoma, but may not be applicable toward national level fellowships or other programs. Each attendee will be asked to complete an online survey after the event to receive their CE certificates. ADDITIONAL PAID SESSIONS & EVENTS Registration fees do not include additional paid sessions. Space is limited at all sessions. Spots are filled on a first come, first served basis. Sold out paid sessions will be noted on the website (okda.org/annual-meeting). If a session for which you registered is full prior to receipt of your mail-in registration, you will be contacted for a refund for that session or for the option to replace it with another session. EARLY BIRD DISCOUNTS To receive the Early Bird discounted rates listed, online registration must be completed no later than February 29 at 11:59 p.m. For those submitting a mailed registation form, the submission must be postmarked on or before February 29.
