Now that your student is admitted...

WE ARE EXCITED YOUR STUDENT HAS CHOSEN OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY! YOU ARE INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS AND WE WANT TO HELP YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. YOUR NEXT STEP TO BECOMING AN OCU FAMILY IS TO FOLLOW OUR CHECKLIST FOR A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION.

HAVE YOUR STUDENT LOG INTO BLUELINK. BlueLink is your student’s online information link to Oklahoma City University. This area gives you and your student important information about OCU student email, enrollment, financial aid, announcements, and more. Additionally, important information and notices will be sent via the OCU student email account. Visit bluelink.okcu.edu regularly to ensure that you do not miss any important information or deadlines.

COMPLETE FINANCIAL AID. Once your student is admitted and has submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), all financial aid emails will be sent to the student’s OCU email account. Once we receive your 24-25 FAFSA, Financial Aid Award Letters will be mailed out as quickly as possible. Please ensure there are no outstanding verification requirements within your BlueLink as that could further delay your offer of aid. Please review and accept financial aid awards via BlueLink immediately - loans will not be processed without the student accepting. Once the Financial Aid Award Letter is received, a financial aid interview can be scheduled with the student’s admissions counselor.

OKCU.EDU/RESOURCES

A financial aid interview covers the cost and what the student will receive in financial aid. Visit okcu. edu/financialaid for more information.

SUBMIT THE ENROLLMENT COMMITMENT

DEPOSIT. The Enrollment Commitment Deposit of $150 secures your student’s place in the freshman class. This deposit is required to enroll in classes and attend Stars 101. The priority deadline to submit the deposit is June 1, after which the deposit becomes non-refundable. Please visit okcu.edu/paymentsite to submit the deposit.

APPLY FOR UNIVERSITY HOUSING. Part of OCU culture is the impact that residential living has on university success, personal growth, and campus connectivity. Due to that, students are required to live on campus for their first three years. Residency Exceptions are made for those who choose to live at home within a 30-mile radius. How to apply for an exemption can be found on the Housing and Residence Life website. Students will use their BlueLink User ID and password to log into the housing application. Along with the housing application, there is a non-refundable $250 housing processing fee. The university will accept housing applications on a rolling basis but cannot guarantee room type or roommate preferences. The renovated rooms in Walker Hall are assigned at random from the students who prefer them in their application. Assignments for new students are made and sent out at the end of June.

REGISTER FOR STARS 101. Stars 101 is our admitted first-year and transfer student preorientation event and is a great way to start your student’s college career at OCU. We are pleased you have chosen to join our campus community, and we look forward to helping your student succeed!

To be considered official, the transcript must be sent directly from the school to our office, emailed from the high school or college if signed by a school official or hand delivered to our office in an official school envelope with school seal. OCU accepts transcripts electronically as well. If your student has completed any college work (including AP, IB, and CLEP scores), please send the official transcript and scores. Additionally, the Campus Health Center requires an immunization record on file before August 1.

PLACEMENT AND PROFICIENCY EXAMS FOR INCOMING FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

. Oklahoma City University no longer requires entrance exams (ACT/SAT) for incoming first-year students. For incoming first-year students with no ACT or SAT scores, the Accuplacer and ALEKS instruments are administered to assess student proficiency and readiness for college-level work in reading, writing, and math. Based on ACT, SAT, Accuplacer and/or ALEKS scores, students may be required to take one or more of the following preparatory courses: EDUC 1013 College Academic Skills, ENGL 1071 Integrated Writing Lab and/or MATH 1303 Intermediate Algebra.

ALEKS. Students with an ACT Math sub-score of 19 or higher and/or an SAT Math of 510 or higher are not required to take any math placement tests. If ACT or SAT scores are lower than indicated above, or no scores are reported to OCU by July 1, students will be instructed to take a proctored ALEKS Placement Assessment to determine math placement and baseline proficiency. If the ALEKS Placement Assessment is not completed by August 1 prior to their first semester at OCU, students will be required to enroll in MATH 1303 Intermediate Algebra prior to taking additional Math courses. Students that are entering OCU having already completed College Algebra or a higher math course or scored a 3 or above on the AP Calculus or AP Statistics test, are not subject to this requirement. Oklahoma City University | ALEKS Math Placement (okcu.edu) to find out more about the ALEKS PPL Assessment.

ACCUPLACER. Students with an ACT reading sub-score of 19 or higher and/or an SAT Evidence-Based Reading/Writing of 510 or higher, or students entering OCU having completed a college-level English Composition course are not required to take the Accuplacer. If you have not reported any ACT or SAT scores to OCU by July 1, you will be instructed to take a proctored Accuplacer Reading Test prior to August 1 to determine baseline reading proficiency. If the Accuplacer is not completed by August 1, or a student scores 239 or less on the Accuplacer, they will be required to concurrently enroll in ENGL 1071 Integrated Writing Lab and ENGL 1113 Composition I in their first semester. Students transferring with more than 29 hours or scored a 3 or above on the AP Language or AP Literature test are not subject to this requirement. Oklahoma City University | Accuplacer (okcu.edu) to find out more about the Accuplacer Reading Test.

More information on the Accuplacer Reading Test and ALEKS PPL Assessment can be found on the OCU academic testing website or students may contact the Office of Academic Affairs (acadaffairs@okcu.edu).
