welcome As publishers of the Oklahoma City Conventioner, allow us to extend our welcome to OKC! We hope we can provide a glimpse of the diversity Oklahoma has to offer. We have everything you would expect in a major city...world class hotels, professional sports, full gaming casinos and race track, a zoo, historic museums, live music and theater. What you might not expect will be the taste of a uniquely rich cultural heritage formed from the red earth so abundant in Oklahoma. Historic Bricktown and the Western Heritage Museums will take you back to the Land Run Era of the Wild West via walking trails, water taxi, or on a river cruise up the rechanneled Oklahoma River. The Classen Curve area offers upscale dining and shopping against a uniquely modern backdrop. As OKC residents and business owners for over 36 years, we are eager to show you “our town.” We know you will enjoy the casual atmosphere and friendly people of OKC and find the dining, entertainment and shopping second to none. If you have any questions or need extra copies of the Oklahoma City Conventioner, don’t hesitate to call our office at 405.249.7097. We hope you enjoy your visit and invite you to return soon! Sincerely, The Matlock Family

The reclaimed barnwood planters outside Plenty Mercantile hint at the bounty of sustainable goodness waiting behind their yellow doors.

Whether you’re looking to fill some time between meetings, pick up a souvenir or replace that buffalo wingstained shirt from last night, Oklahoma City has a variety of shopping destinations near the downtown area. Painted Door (painteddoor.com) in Bricktown on the ground floor of Nonna’s Euro-American Ristorante & Bar is a unique specialty shop with an eclectic collection of clothing, hand-crafted pottery, fragrances and home items to name a few. The psychedelic façade of the Womb Gallery & Dwelling Spaces in Auto Alley.

Automobile Alley is an upscale urban shopping and entertainment district just north of downtown on Broadway Ave. Shop Good in Automobile Alley carries the full line of Warby Parker frames for in-store try-on & non–prescription sunglasses available for purchase.

Formerly home to the bulk of OKC’s auto dealerships, the district is in the midst of a renaissance with hip new establishments popping up everywhere. Walk down Broadway and it’s hard to miss the explosion of color adorning the facade of the Womb Gallery (@WombGallery), the psychedelic art gallery curated by Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips. Nestled within the Womb you’ll find Dwelling Spaces (dwellingspaces.net), the edgiest gift shop in town. Good times radiate from this epicenter on NW 9th with S&B’s Burger Joint (sandbburgersokc.com), Iguana Mexican Grill (iguanamexicangrill.com) and Shop Good (shopgoodokc.com) all within a stone’s throw from each other. Keep exploring Broadway to find Plenty Mercantile (read more on pg 35), Hideaway Pizza (hideawaypizza.com), upscale RED Primesteak (redprimesteak.com) & Coffee Slingers (coffeeslingers.com), all highly recommended. Reaching Automobile Alley from downtown couldn’t be easier with a Spokies bike share kiosk (see pg 31) at Broadway & NW 9th St.

Don’t miss happy hour Tue-Fri 4-7pm in the bar: TIP $3 small plates, beer and cocktail specials. 2262 W. Main St. // American 405.928.5600 // eatatlocal.com

Custom glasswork from local artists adorns the impressive dining room at LOCAL.

Only 20 minutes south of downtown OKC, Norman retains an eclectic and cosmopolitan feel thanks to the erudite influence of the University of Oklahoma. The presence of so many students means that after a day of meetings, there are a multitude of interesting options for your evening. Many head to Campus Corner for its vibrant concentration of restaurants, bars and live music venues. Or try the renovated downtown along Main St. where you’ll find an eccentric collection of locally owned galleries, pubs and restaurants. If you crave higher stakes action, Riverwind Casino (see pg. 21) should be your destination. Norman has many hidden gems. We recommend that you start exploring with the list below.

FEATURED DINING & NIGHTLIFE Benvenuti’s Ristorante Chef Anthony Compagni offers an artful, yet understated dining experience at Benvenuti’s by putting a new world twist on old world Italian fare.
