About project First step: Registration

Main goals Photo contest “Sustainable Unity” will be a project for oikos Chapters to come together under one subject without harming the environment, as it does not require travelling. This project will be interesting for each chapter because of the following results: • • •

More popularity of oikos in each chapter’s native countries. Improved relations between oikos Chapters. Improved perception of oikos` International nature.

Chapters must register to be involved in the project. It is important to fill in the questionnaire drawn up by the contest management team. After this phase each registered chapter publicizes photo contest in their city and manages the process independently. Each chapter chooses the winning photos of their city and sends it to management team. After all these photos being collected they are shared within the registered Chapters. Chapters have to print these photos and hold exhibitions in their cities. From the first day the visitors of exhibitions and members of Chapters will be able to grade photos except the ones representing their native cities. At the end of the third day, Chapters send the summed up scores of their cities to the contest management team. Organizers calculate final figure and declare the winner at the oikos Future Lab.

Summary Above-mentioned photo contest is international. Photos will represent different viewpoints of oikos Chapters around the same topic.

The winning photographer will win a high quality compact camera- exact camera to be announced shortly. Prize funds for the winner is planned to be donated by the oikos Project Development Fund. oikos Tbilisi provides transparency for each stage of contest.

It will be reasonable to identify the meaning of sustainable unity and its importance at first. That is why we have selected this topic. If project develops successfully, it will be possible to hold it on annual basis with different topics.

Second step: Organizing local competition

Chapter should determine a team responsible for project in its city and for relationship with the project management team, which will therefore provide support on the related topics.

The project consists of two phases, the first phase is local contest and the second is international contest.

Advice: •

The local contest is independently managed by registered chapters in their own cities. Its phases are: •

• •

Announcing the contest and informing the students using different source of information spreading. Evaluating received photos Submitting chosen photo to the contest management team.

• There is enough time for chapters to decide on registration and hosting the exhibition in their cities. Chapters will be independent in performing of following duties, though some rules and recommendations should be considered: • • •

Topic of the contest is “Sustainable Unity” Each student is welcome to participate. Photos taken and sent by the students must be of high quality, creative and in compliance with the topic.

Spread out the information about contest using internet resources, hold the personal meetings with students at the universities. Inform students about web page where they can find rules and application form. Upload participants` photos in your city`s gallery on contest page of Facebook. Everyone will be available to grade photos but let their influence on final chose be only 25%. Involve experts in evaluating process. Give them 25% influence in choosing best photos. The rest 50% will be on its own chose of chapter.

What`s next? After management team will have the winner photos from each city, they will be sent to each registered chapter. Determined responsible team in chapters will be responsible for printing and exhibiting photos and also for voting procedures.

Above mentioned rules and recommendations are strictly defined in contest rules and will be sent to each registered chapter along with the application form for participants. Registered chapters must make these file available for them. Application form must be filled in by the participant professional/amateur student photographers.

Third step: Organizing international exhibition Printing Photos Photos must be printed in A3 or A4 size. In order to reduce printing costs it is reasonable to negotiate with printing houses by promoting the company name during the exhibition. Costs can be reimbursed by establishing the minimum cost for participants to submit their photos. Part of the money can be spent on the gift for the author of the best photo in city.

Exhibition

All this results will be summed up but they will not have the same importance • • • •

Chapters chose – 50% Unregistered Chapters chose – 35% Visitors chose (facebook) – 15%

Third day On the third day of the exhibition management team will summarize results obtained from Chapters and will declare the winner of the international contest at the Future Lab meeting.

Prize The winning photographer will win a high quality compact camera- exact camera to be announced shortly. Prise fund for the winner is planned to be donated by the oikos Project Development Fund.

Photos must be exhibited in the hall of chapter`s university or exhibition centre can also be hired. Paper notes should be attached to each photo saying the representing country and the city. Invite the members of your chapter, exmembers, participant students, partners, sponsors, media and other special guests to the exhibition. For evaluation: • •

Ask them to visit the contest page on facebook and to “like” the photo they liked the most. At the end of the second day each registered chapter must choose one best photo and inform only the organizational team about their chose.
