Herbert Barry Professor Emeritus University of Pittsburgh PITTSBURGH, PA

H

erbert Barry is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Education as a result of his role as Professor Emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh.

Founded in 1787, the University of Pittsburgh is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States. The university’s research and findings have defeated polio, unlocked the secrets of DNA, lead the world in organ transplantation, and pioneered TV and heavier-than-air flight, among numerous other accomplishments. Herbert taught Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, where he specialized in some aspects of pharmaceutical sciences, along with his background in psychology. Dr. Barry has been a faculty member at the university since 1963. His pharmacological research was primarily in preclinical psychopharmacology, in which he tested effects of various drugs on the behavior

of laboratory animals. In addition, he has also conducted cross-cultural research, using ethnographic descriptions of child training and other customs in a world sample of diverse societies. He is the author of multiple published works, and has been honored with the NIMH Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Yale University, 1957-59, and the NIMH Research Scientist Development Award, 1967-77. Herbert is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Throughout his educational career, he has earned both his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology from Yale University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Relations from Harvard College. By doing so, parents and teachers alike will quickly see the value added to each child's life by instilling a love of reading which in turn creates a more productive environment for early childhood literacy within your community. It is a proven fact that children who are read to from birth are much more likely to excel in class when they begin school.

In addition to her professional career, Karen is also a certified Wilderness First Responder from Roane State Community College, and a USA and World Tae Kwon Do Federation 5th Degree Black Belt. In her spare time, she enjoys writing, backpacking and the outdoors.
