What It Is Our blog sites have been the “home base” for nearly every computer-based activity in our respective classes. If we have computers in class, the first phrase uttered is “Let’s go to the blog and ____“. Blogging provides students with access to important class links, video lessons, student work, embedded surveys, formative assessments, and more. We have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of quality writing that students showcase to an online audience. Creating and using a blog is easier than you think, too!

What It Is Prezi is a pretty cool online tool used for presentations (hence, the name "Prezi"). The creator starts with a blank canvas, and he/she can add and modify the content, its size, and the path of the presentation. Prezi separates itself from PowerPoint and other presentation tools with its creativity – there are so many possible tricks and turns a Prezi can take. It can be used by students and teachers, and there are many examples included below.

Vodcasting and Video Editing What It Is Vodcasts are video lessons that are available for students to see online, on iPods, DVD players, or anything else that plays a video. There are many computer software programs that one can use to edit video. Many of them look similar to each other, having the preview window, editing screen, and timeline. Windows Movie Maker is probably the most widespread, but we've also used Adobe Premiere and Camtasia Studio to edit videos. Often times, videos shot outside of class have been engaging for the students.

What It Is Google Docs and Spreadsheets have so many uses it’s hard to know where to start. Want to collaborate with other teachers on lesson plans? Make a new Google doc and share it with them. Want to have backups of your most important files and access them wherever there is an internet connection? Upload them to Google docs. Want to have students collaborate on a jigsaw activity? Upload the template and have groups modify it at the same time. Want to track student progress? Make a Google spreadsheet.. Want to make a presentation that students can access? Make a Google presentation and embed it on your website or blog, or just give them the link. Want to make a formative assessment or questionnaire? Make a Google Form and all of the answers will show up on a spreadsheet. You can even automatically grade the responses with a tool called “Flubaroo”. Google Docs and Spreadsheets have many uses, and Google continues to improve/modify what can be done to meet the user’s needs. This Google for Teachers e-book by Richard Byrne is a great guide of many teaching tools by Google.
