TASTE OF VEGAS CONTINUED delectable samples, the casino tables opened and our guest really got into the Vegas spirit. While everyone took their turns on the variety of casino tables, some took a spin on the dance floor to the music of the Tom Christopher Band. Elvis made his grand entrance and entertained everyone for the rest of the evening. Not only were our attendees able to taste great food, sample from the best drinks available and dance the night away with a terrific band, they were also able to step into the photo booth pose with and get silly with several props and funny accessories thanks to Trotter Photography. Cindy Wiltse with CPI Photography was also walking around capturing all of the casino action, and our beautiful guest dressed to the nines. After the casino tables closed, everyone traded in their winnings for raffle tickets for a chance to win some of the fabulous prizes donated by

several Chamber members. We are very excited to have had such a fantastic first year event go off so smoothly and couldn’t have done it without all of our sponsors, restaurants, volunteers, committee members and chamber members. Thank you to everyone whose hard work made all of those goals a reality. Casino night proceeds benefit the mission of the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce and allow the Chamber to keep their dues low for all types of businesses to participate. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

D

aniel Logan moved to the O’Fallon area in the fall of 2012 after living briefly in Detroit, MI. Prior to Detroit he spent over 11 years in Southern California. Daniel grew up in the Quad Cities; he has an older sister, Jen who currently resides in Chicago, and two loving parents in the Rockford, IL area. His Rottweiler, Winston, is his faithful companion, gentle giant, and overall clown providing hours of entertainment. After studying Management Information Systems and Computer Science at Western Illinois University, Daniel worked in the technology industry where he had a heavy focus in web-based software application development and process automation. In his Information Technology career he helped many businesses streamline their operations and realize growth through improved processes and reliance on software. Last year he joined Signature Exteriors. Signature Exteriors offers professional building services for residential and commercial properties including roofing systems, siding,

SIGNATURE EXTERIORS - DANIEL LOGAN gutters, and storm restoration. Signature Exteriors has offices in St. Charles, MO and Charlotte, NC. They are now setting the standard for customer service and professionalism in their industry. Signature Exteriors was started by Michael Garrie and Jeramie Beechler. Jeramie – with his background in real estate, marketing, and sales – and Michael – coming from the corporate finance world – complement each others’ skill-sets while providing customers with a depth of knowledge not typical of a traditional construction company. “I understand how large organizations like insurance companies work, and I know how to work with them” says Michael. Adding, “That is why we are able to accomplish so much more for our customers”. Jeramie continues “It’s all about the customer, their needs, and what they want to accomplish. You can pick any industry and that will hold true. That is why our philosophy is always customers first and everything else will fall into place”. “I have known Dan for the better part

of a decade. We first met in Redondo Beach, CA where we quickly became friends. I knew his passion for customer service, knowledge of technology, and great attitude would be a large benefit to our company” says Michael. Jeramie adds “That is exactly why we brought him onboard. We realize that to remain competitive and provide the highest quality service, we must rely on technology; and his ability to push us into solutions has been a great asset”. “It’s really exciting to be part of such a dynamic company. We are growing quickly and the hurdles presented from this growth keep our day-today jobs challenging and rewarding. After spending so long focused in the technology industry, it’s very fun to be involved in a company that, while utilizing technology, is more a customer-oriented company” Daniel says. “Over the next several years we are looking forward to continuing to grow as a company – both in size and our processes – and continuing to provide unparalleled customer service” concludes Jeramie.

RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONIES WELCOME TO O’FALLON! First, I’d like to thank all of the volunteers, sponsors and attendees of our Inaugural Taste of Vegas event. First year events are always a little risky, but through the hard work of a great committee and the support of our Chamber members we were able to host an amazing event last Saturday night. If you weren’t able to make it, check out some of the pictures on page 4 & 5; you’ll be sure to make it next year! Last month the Board of Directors met for an all-day retreat at the Economic Development Center of St. Charles County. After a brief lesson on how to make paper airplanes (see picture below), we spent the following 4 hours discussing how to bring our vision to reality. How do we become the catalyst for the prosperity for our community? We do that by becoming a valued resource for our businesses, non-profit organizations and residents. At our retreat Board members broke up into groups to strategically tackle each of those areas. I am confident that the O’Fallon Chamber will bring its vision and all of the programs surrounding it to fruition.

The O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce and the City of O’Fallon are excited to welcome these new businesses to the community and to help them celebrate with a with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony.

A BIG WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST CHAMBER STAFF MEMBER, NINA!

T

y name is Nina DeAngelo and while new to the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce as a staff member, I am not new to the community. I’ve been active in the community since 2008. I am a previous O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce Member and have served on numerous committees and the board in past years. I love the O’Fallon community and all it has to offer. Now let me tell you a little about me. I served almost 9 years in the US Army and loved every minute of it. I came to a crossroads in my life in my ninth year of service as to whether to reenlist or end my term and raise my children. What mother wouldn’t love the opportunity to raise her children if given the chance? So my service to our great country ended and the service to my family began. I am a mother of 4 brilliant children ranging in ages 19 years to 10 months and love raising them

WESTINN KENNELS CHOSEN FOR FEBRUARY’S BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT AWARD For turning a home-based dog training business into two successful locations with nearly 50 employees and a host of pet services, WestInn Kennels was selected as February’s recipient of the Business Spotlight Award from the Economic Development Roundtable of St. Charles County. Back in 1994, Sharon West began working as a certified dog trainer to help educate the public about proper pet care. Eventually some of her students started asking her to help care for their dogs while they were on vacation. Today her successful company, WestInn Kennels, operates a “K-9 Bed ‘n Breakfast” in Dardenne Prairie and a 20,000-square-foot “Everything Under One Woof” location in Wentzville. Each week, 25 classes are conducted by 18 trainers and the company employs about 50 people during the peak season. WestInn Kennels provides boarding, grooming, retail pet supplies, group classes and private instruction. They are members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and a Better Business Bureau Accredited Business. “WestInn Kennels is an amazing business that has earned a solid reputation for offering first-class pet services and being very civic-minded,” said Tommie Monroe, Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Dardenne Prairie. “We are proud of the impact WestInn Kennels has made in the lives of countless pets and pet-owners throughout the area,” he added. Each month a different company in St. Charles County is selected for the Business Spotlight Award by the Economic Development Roundtable (EDR) based on criteria such as entrepreneurial success, civic 12 | BUSINESS CONNECTION | MARCH 2013

cities) and 75,000-99,999 (155 cities). With a population of 79,000, O’Fallon ranked third safest on the “Lowest Crime Rate Ranking” for cities with a population of 75,000-99,999. O’Fallon also was the only Missouri City to be rated among the top 10 safest cities in all population categories. The rankings were calculated by CQ Press from 2011 UCR data released in the fall of 2012. http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/2012/CityCrime2013_ CityCrimeRankingsFactSheet.pdf “O’Fallon’s recurring national ranking by professional researchers continues to be a tremendous honor for our City,” said O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy. “It demonstrates that the City’s long-standing policy of making Public Safety a top priority has paid off. We have a dedicated Police Department that is among the finest in the country, and a safe City that is an outstanding place in which to live and raise a family.” “The men and women of the O’Fallon Police Department take pride in O’Fallon’s continued reputation as a safe City,” said O’Fallon Police Chief Roy Joachimstaler. “And I am pleased that once again, the officers’ consistent efforts are in the national spotlight.” City Crime Rankings is a reference book published by CQ Press that analyzes and ranks states and cities in various categories. Providing crime comparisons for cities and metropolitan areas throughout the United States, the book includes numbers, rates and trends for total crime, violent crime, murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary, larcenytheft, and motor vehicle theft.
