This month the Chamber is Firecracker-Crazy with the final details of our signature event! The Firecracker Run is by far our largest fundraising event of the year, bringing in over $35,000 to help fund the Chamber. Many times our members and members of the community will ask what charity is the money going to? or what does the Chamber do with the money? So, I thought I would let you all know. We keep it! The Chamber hosts four event fundraisers each year to supplement our operating budget. We pride ourselves in being as frugal with your dollars as possible while offering our membership (and the community) benefits and services to help their business grow and

keep our community prosperous. The O’Fallon Chamber offers so much to our members, and we are always on the lookout for new services to offer. However, while we’ve grown in services, we have only had one dues increase of 5% in the past 10 years! The Chamber is able to accomplish because of the success of fundraisers like the Firecracker Run. I’d like to thank our Firecracker Chair, Ron Epps of Citizen’s National Bank and all of our committee members who have worked so hard and will be sharing part of their Independence Day (the really early part) with us. You are not only helping our organization, but all of the 560+ businesses that we serve. Thank You! If you are interested in volunteering for the Firecracker Run, please call Erin at the Chamber Office, 636-2401818. We are expecting a huge crowd this year! Until next time, Jeff Arneson 2014 Chairman of the Board

Business License Renewal – Due by June 30th

O

’Fallon business license renewals were mailed this week. Renewal applications and the fee of $15 is due by June 30th. Please remember that even if you are a new business in 2013/2014 you must renew your license. Business licenses are not prorated. Our City is proud of our local businesses. Together, the products, jobs, services and, in the case of retail, the sales taxes collected, all drive our economy, and help keep O’Fallon an attractive, vibrant community. For that reason, the City’s renewal fees are modest. They are also investments that offer a good return on safety, business recognition, and a host of Economic Development Department strategies.

• New “Citizens First” Mobile App lets users find your business on their phones! Every licensed business in O’Fallon will be listed in the City’s new searchable “Citizens First” Mobile App. • Safety: Annual license renewals keep your business information current with the O’Fallon Police Department and local emergency services, so that first responders can easily reach your business in an emergency. • Security and Communication: O’Fallon’s free Business Watch program for ALL businesses helps stop vandalism, theft, fraud, and other criminal activities, and promotes a crime-alert business network. Contact Officer Long at 636-379-5563 or jlong@ofallon.mo.us.

• Business Recognition: In addition to the Mobile App, licensed businesses are listed on the City of O’Fallon’s searchable online map and directory on our website www.ofallon.mo.us. They are also promoted to both outside and local parties inquiring about O’Fallon’s manufacturing, service and retail industries, and to consumers through O’Fallon’s highly-visible “Keep It in the O!” campaign. • Free Advertising and Promotions (Optional): Free direct-marketing opportunities will be made available during the year. Providing a valid e-mail address on the license application allows the City to send important information and free promotional and educational opportunities that can help your business.

H

Tell us about yourself: I was born and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. My father was a mechanical engineer; my mother ran the house. My sister was an “Emmy” nominated Hollywood writer. I graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in business and went directly into the U.S. Air Force. For the next 24+ years I served in various operating and headquarters level assignments as a human resources manager and director. In 1970 and 1971 my Air Force travels took me to Viet Nam for a year’s tour. My last assignment was at Strategic Air Command Headquarters, from which I retired as a Lt. Colonel in March, 1991. After the Air Force I started my own leadership and management development consulting practice, which has continued to this day. In November, 2003 I moved here from Omaha, NE, after marrying my tender young bride, Anita, who is a native of Cottleville. Together we have five sons and eight grandchildren.

Tell us about your organization: We focus on unhappy business owners/senior executives who are not satisfied with the results they are seeing in their organizations. Our typical client is a locally owned firm with 15 to 350 employees. Some firms may have a labor union, most do not. Some have a formal human resources function; others do not. We have also worked with public sector organizations and with private schools. We help our clients increase personal and organizational effectiveness and productivity in these ways: • Workforce management and succession planning (optimizing your “bench strength”) • Pre- and Post-hire individual and group testing and assessment, assuring proper core-competency, capability, style, compatibility, and personality fit with the organization and its culture. • Leadership, executive and staff training and development programs tailored to both individual and organizational performance objectives. • Individual coaching

8 | Business Connection | JUNE 2014

What is the Mission of Your Organization? To enhance the personal and organizational effectiveness and productivity of our clients be developing leaders who have clearly defined goals, positive attitudes and leadership skills, enabling them to achieve their God-given potential. What do you do to serve your clients best? Intense focus on our clients’ success We work with our clients to the point of disengagement; we guarantee our work unconditionally. What are you most looking forward to…? Very simply, working with organizations and individuals who are not satisfied with just being good, when they have the potential to be truly great. We all have the ability to be outstanding in at least one area, the secret is discovering what that is and then enthusiastically pursuing it. Seeing people realize their true potential is very rewarding! Why would you recommend the O’Fallon Chamber? Great people; great community engagement; great opportunity!
